Rating: Summary: "Firestarter - an edge of your seat thrill ride" Review: I was plainly browsing the shelves in my library when I saw this book. I thought 'What the heck' and took it. It was my first Stephen King novel. I started reading it as soon as I got home and was quite interested. After about a week, when I finished, I was not happy. It didn't really have as much suspense and horror as I expected King to have. There were several fights and people with supernatural powers but I didn't get what I expected from a Stephen King novel. It wasn't a dissapointment because I had enjoyed several chapters very much and there were some very gory and disgusting moments (a guy clawing his eyes out) though that was too much. You're right. "Firestarter" does sound cool though it's not that simple. The story is about Charlie McGee, the child of Andy and Vicky McGee. In 1968, Andy and Vicky had participated in a drug test just for money. They had made the biggest mistake of their life for when they married and had a baby in the next year, the baby (Charlie) was born with a supernatural power, the ability to start fires when ever she's mad at someone. Extra: By the way, Charlie is a girl and not a boy despite the name. Anyway, the drug agency (The Shop) hears of this child and wants her to do their work. They kill Vicky and now Andy and Charlie are on the run. Sometimes, Charlie can control her ability but other times she can't. She even uses her ability to fight the drug agency's men, especially in the end where she destroy's the whole building. But I don't want to give the whole book away or how it ends. I, again, remind you that this might not be King's best but it will keep you entertained. You should rent it before buying it though. That's all. 4 stars. CAUTION: This book does include gory images and strong language (Particularly the "F" word every 50 pages)
Rating: Summary: Slow paced Review: The first 3/4 of this book are really slow. It took me a while to get into it. The ending is good so it made it worthwhile.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining, to say the least Review: Firestarter is one of King's earlier works and he shows just how well he can weave a story together. Firestarter flows page after page with no hitches. If you haven't read any King before, this is definately a good starting point.
Rating: Summary: If you haven't read this classic... Review: ...stop reading this review and get the book. I first read this book in 1981 and reread it every few years. It is so good that although I know exactly what will happen, I am mesmorized by how well Stephen King tells the story. Find out for yourself.
Rating: Summary: Burning Hot Review: Awhile ago there was a group injected with a chemical called lot 6. This chemical seemed to give the people wild powers. Vikki can move things by thinking about it. Andy can control people with the 'push'. And what happens when you cross a 'pusher' and a mind mover? You get a firestarter. Poor Charlie is just a little girl with the SHOP hot on her and her father's trail. After killing Vikki, they had got hold of Charlie once, but Andy had saved her. But then SHOP get's hold of them both, and they make the little girl mad...
Rating: Summary: An entertaining novel! Review: Years ago, Andy McGee and his soon to be wife Vicky took place in a strange expirament with a drug called lot six, an expirence which terrified them and left them with strange new gifts. Years later they are married and have a little 7-year-old girl named Charlie McGee. And Charlie has gifts that are more powerful than she can imagine. She can light fires with her mind, big fires. And the people who ran the expiraments want nothing more than to get Charlie. And they'd do anything to get to her. And what will happen if they do? I really enjoyed this book. The plot was really exciting and the charecters very interesting. This is my second Steven King Novel (my first being Carrie) and not my last. If you enjoy suspenseful stories of magical powers I reccomend this to you. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: One Of My Favorite Steven King Books! Review: Firestarter was a fantastic book I really enjoyed reading it, I also loved the movie starring Drew Barrymore as Charlie but I liked the book a little more then the movie, I like the book also because it's not really scary it has it's spooky moments but nothing that would give you nightmares, I thought the story was also sad with what they did to Charlie and to her parents. I very highly recommend this fantastic book which I could not put down!
Rating: Summary: Firestarter Review: This book was thrilling. I love the way that it kept you on your toes no matter what was happening. I couldn't wait to find out what happened.
Rating: Summary: Magnifique Review: Being far too impatient to wait quietly for Stephen King to write a new book, I've recently taken to collecting some of his older novels to read in the meantime. "Firestarter" is one of King's earlier works, but it shows none of the amateur qualities that often afflict the early novels of some writers. The book tells the story of Charlie, an 8 year old girl who possesses the power of pyrokinesis, a result of experiments her parents took part in during their college years. This ability makes a sinister government outfit known only as "The Shop" particularly keen to get their hands on her, and they don't care how they go about it. The book opens with Charlie and her father on the run from Shop agents through the streets of Manhattan. Through their desperate attempts to escape, we begin to see more of the mysterious powers Charlie and her father possess, right up to their inevitable capture. However, where the book really starts to bite is in the Shop's Virginia compound, where a disillusioned hitman starts to think that perhaps Charlie can teach him more about death than any of the hundreds of people he has dispatched during his "career". Firestarter is a genuinely riveting book, one that will have you cheering out loud for Charlie and her dad, Andy, and that will have you fuming at the insensitivity, inhumanity and cynicism of the bureaucrats that run any federal government.
Rating: Summary: Stephen King's eugenic based 1984! Review: I saw the film first and it blew me away for what it's worth. Then I read the book and was stunned by how much the film had left out. I've read the novel over 10 times cover to cover over the last 4 years, and it's my favorite book. As most people have said, if you know the book, the film leaves something to be desired. The thoughts and memories of these people are so defining to the story, that when you leave them out, it's like reading the book if all the pages were torn in half. I was mesmerized by the little girl and her power, but why she had it and what the government was planning to do BEYOND her was the premise of the whole book. The Shop could have made the US the most dominant country (and maybe) the only country on the face of the Earth, if they had fulfilled their plan and bred human weapons. But Charlie didn't let that happen. I love it. READ THIS BOOK if you like 1984 and have studied Hitler's eugenics.
