Rating: Summary: It Will Never End Review: Wizard and Glass was a good read, if you care not about the future of the series. Even though Mr. King feels he could actually end this series in his lifetime, I seriously doubt it. It is definately the best in the Dark Tower series, but there is a reason for that. The novel tells the story of Roland's first love, when he was young, and therefore the wonderful characters of his youth are with him. Cuthbert and Alain are exellent characters, whom you wish to discover more so than the droll companions which accompany the older Roland on his quest to the Dark Tower. I would much rather find out what happens to those childhood companions than see what awaits the merry crew in the Dark Tower. Mr. King must realize this as well, therefore he will spend the next couple of novels telling the story of their demise. That leaves him little time to tell the REAL story. Frankly, that's fine with me. When Roland stops reminicing about his troubled past, I'll stop reading about him.
Rating: Summary: Undoubtedly, the best Stephen King book to date. Review: Stephen King's latest and greatest edition of the Dark Tower series will weave a magical spell on it's reader. Much like the characters who have the privilege or misfortune of holding and gazing into the Wizard's Glass, the reader will be caught up in a swirling and magical pink haze, only to be dropped back into reality when they least expect it. The reader gets caught up in the elusive quest for the Tower, be it real or imagined. For your Father's sake, read this book.
Rating: Summary: Almost the best Dark Tower book yet. Review: Although not as compelling as DK III, this latest installment of the Dark Tower series is well worth the read. The Wizard of OZ part was cheese, but an interesting twist. Looking forward to DK V. Hope we don't have to wait five years this time.
Rating: Summary: A great sequel! Review: SK must write another sequel. I'm looking forward for the next best-seller. DTIV is fanatstic.
Rating: Summary: Yee-haa! Review: Makes one want to strap on the guns and ride out across the Drop.
Rating: Summary: Mediocre!!! Not worth reading Review: SK has obviously struggled with the entire series and all four books are filled with inconsistencies and contradictions as pointed out by a previous reviewer. When he can't make parts of the story come together he just wings it and somewhow muddles through. He has become to busy as Stephen King Inc., to give us the benefit of his unique talents. While he does have a phenomenal imagination, his writing has become mediocre. He hasn't produced anything worthwhile for a long time. As it were, this book and the entire series is not worth reading and there are too many books available in this world that are worthwile.
Rating: Summary: Skip the beginning, miss the ending - but read the middle Review: Let me say this, I dont like Eddie, Susannah or Jake as gunslingers. I liked Eddie as the Prisoner and the Lady of the Shadows was terrific, but as partners of Roland, I wish King (or Roland!) kills them all off as quickly as possible. But that applies only to the first part and the last part of the book. The really readable part of the book comes in the story of "Susan, the girl at the window" of "The Gunslinger". The "old man Jonas" also makes his appearance. Just dont miss this. Its really good. It takes off by itself and really soars. The trouble is, it makes the rest of the volume look thin and half hearted. It would read like a boys adventure tale if it weren't for the intrusion of the love/sex in the middle, but they actually make the book richer. So - here's to the next one, and to Thunderclap - where we'll meet father Callahan of Salem's Lot. Oh yes, I cant wait - for the boy Patrick to save Roland's life, to meet the Crimson King, and the baby in the maze of the temple of the bull and all those other tantalizing hints that have peppered almost every king novel in the 1990s.
Rating: Summary: Quite good; Stephen King at his fantasy best! Review: This book was too long in the coming; and even though it is quite prolific, even for Stephen King, it still isn't long enough. The Dark Tower Series is one of the best fantasy series in the world. Highly recommended if you liked the other books in the series.
Rating: Summary: An excellent read, although different in texture Review: Taking off at a lightning pace yet bogging down in the midst, I was initially disappointed but now, have a greater understanding for the character Roland. I enjoyed the variance from the first three works.
Rating: Summary: NO MORE, PLEASE!!! Review: I personally like Stephen King and his work but this series is among the WORST CRAP I have ever laid my eyes on. The entire idea is lousy, filled with inconsistencies and contradictions. If you haven't read this "thing" yet, DON'T! You'll only be disappointed. I know I was. Come on SK, I'd expected better from you. Keep to the horror, you don't have it for fantasy or Dark Future.
