Rating: Summary: Most revealing book of series but not best one. Review: This latest book is the most revealing of the four books when it opens up the lost characters from other worlds (RF). The story of Roland's youth is entertaining, answering many questions that surfaced in the earlier novels, and leads the members into a new and interesting twist. One just can't wait to see how Stephen King weaves the story further to include Kansas and the glass castle. Even more important is who they will battle in the next episode and what the role of the rose is in our world. Hopefully King will live up to the past episodes, and I have no doubt that he will.
Rating: Summary: Thankee Sai... Review: Thank you Stephen King for a wonderful book. I have to agree with some of the other customer reviews, I think this is one of his greatest works. Second only to IT for me. Its nice to finally understand Roland a little more. My biggest problem with this series is the length of time its taken just to get to the 4th book. At some point I am going to have to go back and reread all of the books sequentially. I have forgotten too much of the background, especially from THE WASTELANDS.I, for one, liked the Wizard of Oz stuff. OK, maybe the red slippers were a bit much, but the rest fit in. I think thats just the type of thing The Dark Man would do to psyche them out. I have alway loved the way so many of the King stories entertwine a little here and there. There was only one small thing that bothered me about WIZARD AND GLASS. When Jake said, "We're not in Kansas anymore" and Eddie was thinking that they certainly weren't in the Kansas where the Kansas City Royals played. Duh, The Royals play in Kansas City, Missouri! As a single mother with a very active 3yr old, my reading time is very limited. WIZARD AND GLASS was well worth every valuable minute.
Rating: Summary: Wizard and Glass ok, previous installments were better Review: Although I enjoyed Wizard and Glass, the fourth installment of Dark Tower, I was a bit disappointed, especially given the long wait between books. The section with Blain the Mono was interesting, even though the Eddie Dean ending was a bit contrived. I found Roland's ruminations about Meijis way too long, and not particularly interesting. Mr. King devleoped some good characters like Rhea of Coos, but did not follow through on their actions or motivations. I was impressed with some of the love scenes between Roland nd Susan, however. In summary, this book did not move the Dark Tower series along far enough or quickly enought to be of much interest. Looks like we'll have to wait for the next one!
Rating: Summary: A wonderful shift in gears! Review: I loved this book. It lends insight to what makes Roland tick; until now he was the biggest enigma in the ka-tet. Through use of this flashback story we finally begin to understand where the Gunslinger's single-minded pursuit of the Dark Tower stems from. He also becomes more human in the reader's eyes as a result. Hopefully Mr. King will now continue with the plot in a more linear fashion. I would hate to see this story going nowhere fast in the fashion of Robert Jordan's WOT. Thanks for a great read!!
Rating: Summary: El mejor!!
Rating: Summary: IT ROCKS!!!!! Review: This book rocks, Roland rocks, The dark man rocks, and Stephen King rocks!! This book was by far the best. It revealed a lot about Roland who was until this point a cypher. One of the most fascinating elements of this story has always been the way it evolves in the telling as evidenced in the afterwords. The revelation of the Dark Man's identity and the the relation of this work to Kings other is fascinating. This book also while not advancing the journey in the physical sense sets up the rest of the journey well. Roland still has stories that need to be told and the journey to the tower is far from over.
Rating: Summary: Great reading, although a disapointed end. Review: I thought the book was great reading although rather long talking about Roland's past.A let down in the end. Can't wait for the next book in the Darktower Series.
Rating: Summary: AFTER ONE MONTH, I'M STILL THINKING OF ROLAND AND HIS LIFE Review: I've read all the 4 "Dark Tower" books and that's the best; now I'm also convinced that it's the best story that Stephen King has ever written. I've read the book in 5 days and I didn't want to do anything else except reading; I even wanted not to go outside or eat or sleep (but I had to). When Susan died and young Roland almost went mad, I was continuously saying "Poor Susan" and "Poor Roland; now I can understand why you are so icy". Now that a month has passed since I finished the book, I still find myself in thinking of single episodes of the book. King tought not to be able to write about passion of sixteens and instead he was absolutely and completely realistic. If Roland was a man, I'm sure that I'd love him. Please Stephen don't stop writing of Roland and of his trip to the Dark Tower. ROLAND LIVES
Rating: Summary: The greatest story EVER! Review: Wizard and Glass, the fourth installment of the Dark Tower series is one of the best. We finally get to know just who Roland of Gilead is. We learn about Susan, who has been mysteriously mentioned from the beginning. contrary to what many think, I think that the romance is perfect; in The Gunslinger, he seems like a man with no hear and emotions, sacrificing Jake for his own personal goal. Now, we learn how he was at one time. But some questions remain unanswered. How did Alain die, at the hands of Roland and Cuthbert? How did cuthbert and the rest of his friends die. After destroying the tankers, how did Farson manage to delay his plans by a mere twenty months? And what of Rhea, the Rose, and R.F., all things we are sure to see more of when (if) King continues the story? Stephen, hurrey up and continue the Tower. All of us are waiting. SPOON!
Rating: Summary: A superb book, I just cant wait for the sequel. Review: "It's the sort of story that you can pick up and don't want to put down" - an old cliche but one that fits. The only books that I've read that compare are "Island" by Richard Laymon and "The Hobbit By J. R. Tolkien.
