Rating: Summary: "The best way to continue a series." Review: I must say that "Wizard and Glass" is the best way to continue the "Dark Tower" series. I absolutly love how Stephen King had the story go along in the present, and then with his long-awaited sequel (prequel?) goes into the past of Rolands life. It explained so much, as well as creating an entertaining storyline.
Rating: Summary: A Book That Will Haunt You Review: This is one of those books that will stay with you for a long, long time. The characters seem so real that you will miss them the way you miss people in real life. After you've read this book you will feel as though you too had once lived the life of the gunslinger Roland. I loved this book and can't wait for the next volume of the series.
Rating: Summary: Bringing together of years of excellence...simply brilliant. Review: A somewhat surprizing effort into a genre SK does not usually partake in. The romance gave the book more feeling than any of his other novels and the parallels drawn between this and other stories and their apparent links are simply mesmerising. One of his best works to date.
Rating: Summary: I am truly enchanted by this series. Review: I truly enjoyed these books. Unlike most (I suppose) I read them all in one sitting. I was most struck by Stephen's (had to use the first name at least once) development. The books grew with him. The first book, THE GUNSLINGER was almost childish in simplicity. By the time he got to THE DRAWING OF THE THREE one could see the King of IT and NEEDFUL THINGS emerging (remember I just read them having read many, many of his books before) and WIZARD OF GLASS is amazing. I am truly enchanted by a set of books that, before reading, I thought was a cowboy story (thus me never having read them before). The truth is, when I saw that his new novel THE GIRL WHO LOVED TOM GORDON was on the shelves, I immediately thought, "So THAT'S what he's been doing when he should have been writing The Dark Tower V!" Nevertheless, I will as always purchase and voraciously devour his latest. Happy reading all!!!
Rating: Summary: Dark Tower, an Epic of Great proportions Review: When most people hear the phrase epic story, they immediately tink of "The Illiad" or "Beowulf." Very rarely do they think of a tale from the modern day. Stephen King, however, is currently in the process of writing such an epic in the Dark Tower series. Not only does King allow these thoughts to encompass the novels in the series, but the also flow into his other novels, as the other novels incorporate themseles into the series. Insomniac, Rose Madder, The Stand, as well as almost all of his other novels are in some wa connected to this epic. Since the first book came out, way back when, I have been on the edge of my seat waiting for the next installment of the Epic series. I was awestruck when the Man in Black died in book one. I was thrilled when we learned about Detta Walker and Eddie Dean from New York in book two. I was horrified when they travelled through the underground of the city of Lud in book three. All the while, I wanted to know more of Roland, what of his world, his life. . . Finally King has given us the chance to learn. I cannot wait for the next book to take me even further into this other level of the tower that holds us all!
Rating: Summary: another superb King book Review: Although the book did drag on at times, this fourth in the series of books about Roland was a great piece of writing by King. He lets the reader get an insight into Roland's past, and consequently, his behavior with his current partners on the trip to the dark tower. I can't wait for the next book.
Rating: Summary: Sorry, just isn't very good. Review: Actually, I'm NOT sorry. As others have pointed out, it seems SK no longer feels the need to EDIT his books. This story was almost completely un-necessary. I didn't WANT all the detail, I was perfectly happy with the little hints about Roland's past that he had already given us. If I wanted to read a romance, I would not have picked up a Stephen King book in the first place. I have to wonder if people who are calling this 'King's Best' have even READ anything else he wrote? Honestly, besides the first two Dark Tower books, King hasn't written a good book since 1984 (Pet Semetary).
Rating: Summary: King's Greatest Work! Sums up everything he's ever written! Review: This book tells a lot about Roland's past, most of which is pretty depressing. (Just thought I'd warn you.) But, it's one of those books you just can't put down. You will also learn a great deal about both Cuthbert and Alain. The mysterious Susan is also brought up, which will tear your heart to shreds. In general, this book mainly consists of the palaver between Roland and the rest of his ka-tet. It will both make you laugh 'til the cows come home and pull your heart to tears. A wonderful book, with many similarites in characters to King's other maginficent works. I believe this series is an ending/disclosure of all his works. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!!!
Rating: Summary: This book is Great Review: This is King at his very best. A must read
