Rating: Summary: THERE IS ANOTHER CHAPTER AFTER THIS BOOK!!! Review: Hello...I already reviewed this a few months back (didn't like the book much, too much romance which I can't stand, and it gives details about Roland's past that I preferred to have remain a mystery). BUT I wanted to let all of you who LOVE this series to know that there is another part of the story not contained in the 4 main books. Read "LEGENDS" an anthology which contains a great 'Gunslinger' story called "The Little Sisters of Eluria." It is MUST READ stuff for fans of the Dark Tower series. Editied by Martin Greenberg.
Rating: Summary: There's no place like home... Review: Just finished the book 2 hours ago. Loved the book til there was the heel clicking. I like all those references to the 'Stand', which by the was is one of his best books. Anyway the series as a whole is awesome. I enjoyed the love story. My 2 cents
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: I think this entire series are the greatest works King has ever created. I have read most of his other works, including the Bachman books, but these are definitely the best. Stephen, if you read this, please, PLEASE tell us that you will not leave us hanging as to whether or not Roland ever gets to the tower!! We all need to know whether the world comes apart at the seams or if Roland fixes the wrongs!
Rating: Summary: I wanted a Western and I got a romance. Review: I was a huge fan of The Dark Tower until I read the Wizard and the Glass. I expected a young Roland to earn his guns and become a great gunslinger. I got a Harliquin Romance, full of flowing blond locks, and heaving bossoms. I doubt I will continue the seiries after this.
Rating: Summary: Tepid and trite. Review: This stands as the worst of the series, as the characters are all starting to sound the same. I read all the books again before reading this one, and the decline in King's ability (or his ability to care about his own writing) is too evident to miss. Where the first book is slow-moving and full of mystery, and the second is a taut-but-wordy thriller, the third starts to slip as all of the carefully constructed characterization is abandoned. Part IV continues this trend, and is poorly edited, to boot. At one point, Susannah, who is confined to a wheelchair, is described as "standing there"! And the combination of lousy writing and apparently non-existent proofreading only gets worse. The most disappointing development, however, is King's insistence in bringing other events and other characters from his previous books into this book, as if a persona from one of his past glories can help revive the phatom books he is now writing. I think that he is trying to create some sort of alternate world where everything he has ever written ties together in some way. You could see traces of it as far back as PET SEMATARY, when the town of Salem's Lot pops up on a highway sign. Now he seems to be forcing everything to come together, and it just isn't working. Roland's flashbacks are uninformative and tend to over-explain what little character he has left. After reading this unbelievably long and boring installment of the Dark Tower series, I went back and re-read THE SHINING, which is brilliant, and left me shaking my head in wonder at how talent can fade away so easily. Usually, writers grow and improve, exploring more challenging material. Virtually everything King has published since 1986 can't hold a candle to his earlier work. Author allegiance is one thing, but after so many trite works, it's time to move on.
Rating: Summary: great story! Review: this is a great follow up of dark tower 3. I suggest this book to anyon
Rating: Summary: Fantastic! Review: King has done it again! Just when you think you're finally going see the ultimate battle between good and evil (Roland vs. Dark Tower) he takes us back to enrich the characters and provide the needed growth for the ka-tet to continue on their journey. It has taken King decades to get us this far, (I'm always afraid I'll forget important stuff between books, but the master forsees this and handles it expertly)and I for one always have a difficult time waiting for the next installment. Wizard & Glass proves, again, that the wait is well worth it! Although intimidating in size (700+pages) the reading goes so fast you don't notice until near the end, when you don't want it to end. Ready to escape life for a few days and rejoin old friends Roland & gang - read this one. It's a keeper.
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put this book down. Reading it is a must!!!!!!!! Review: I absolutely loved reading this book. At almost 700 pages, it seems like it will take forever. But, you just get so engrossed in the book that you finish it rather quickly. I read this book, not realizing that it was a part of a series. Now, I'm going back and reading the first three. I'm sure they will be every bit as intriguing as The Wizard & The Glass. Enjoy the book!!!
Rating: Summary: WONDERFUL AND SUSPENCEFUL Review: I have read this book and found that like book two of the Darktower epic it deals with the emotions and the untold parts of the stories that you haven't yet heard. It keeps you on your feet definetly a thinking book. If you don't want to think about a story as you read it don't read this book. If you do this is your kind of book. I LOVED IT!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Changed the subject, but probably necessary Review: I think this book will stand better when the next book comes out and the gang is back on the road. I think it will play a key role in the future. You won't understand the future if you don't know about the past. Also, with all of the comments about Cuthbert, Alain and Susan, I think everybody would have been quite disappointed if there was no explanation as to who they were, and why they were important to Roland. The story itself was great and could have almost stood alone.
