Rating: Summary: better but not as expected Review: I thought this was it, she was back!,but not this time. It is better than Armand (not to mention Violin) but does not have the magic of the first three Vampire chronicles, Ramses or The Witching Hour (my favorite).
Rating: Summary: Most well laid-out setting I've ever read Review: This is the first Anne Rice book I have ever read, and it blew me away. I sat down and read it in a single sitting (took me over 4 hours straight) because I just could not put it down. The way Anne Rice sets the story is unsurpassed by any writer I have read outside of classic books read in highschool and college. I didn't like Interview with a Vampire as a movie, but after giving Rice a second chance, I am now awaiting the book from Amazon.
Rating: Summary: worth the wait till the last 1/3rd Review: This book was very different from her other vampire books. I found the first part of the book unenjoyable to read, and i didn't perticularly like the character, though the descriptions were interesting. But the last 1/3rd was extremely interesting to read, and as enjoyable as anything else she's written. when i finished the book i realized it was more of an old fairly tail or myth than a novel. it dealt with things in a more direct and simple fation, and the good and evil contrast were much more obviouse, very black and white, but it worked. If you look at it as a myth rathen then a novel, it is very effective, and a great read. Don't except the sort of engrosing novel you found in lestat or armand. Also, seeing the world through someone who truly believed in angels and deamons, as written in the city of god, was very interesting.
Rating: Summary: Anne Rice, my favorite author, creates another masterpiece! Review: I feel that "Vittorio" captures alot of the darkness of "Interview", but at the same time is SO different from the recent cronicles. I found the scene where Vittorio decends into the crypt especially thrilling. At times, this book reminded me of a great game of Castlevania! If you are an Anne Rice fan, of course, you won't miss this book. If you aren't an Anne Rice fan, this is a great place to start. To be honest, however, I am longing for the return of Lestat. PLEASE HURRY ANNE!!!! Lestat is our Brat Prince and we LOVE him!
Rating: Summary: Gorgeous and Gothic! Review: Three cheers to Anne Rice!! For creating something so different from her past Vampire Books. VITTORIO manages to be, in 288 pages, a beautifully written, gloriously violent (it is a Vampire novel after all), and the most gothic novel Anne's ever witten. A tale of love, revenge and history in a great new voice that's an important addition to her Chronicles. Too many people - if the reviews here are any indication - start an Anne Rice novel with preconceived ideas of what it will be, or what it should be, STOP IT... and enjoy.
Rating: Summary: Another Stunner from Mrs. Rice Review: You know, despite what alot of these reviews say I think that this book was one of the most beautifuly written books that I have ever read, and I want you all to know that I read anything that I can get my hands on from Dante to stephen king. I loved this book, and it had a twist to it, in most of Mrs. Rices' vampire novels the vampires are the heros, but in this one, you almost dread the point when Vittorio becomes one of the undead. I love all of the Rice series and I cant wait for her next one.
Rating: Summary: Anne you can do better! Review: I have all and read all of her vampire books, and I must say that to me after Queen of the Damn the books started going down hill. Vittorio the vampire was ok. It dealt too long in the history of his past and not enough on the present. I would like to know what is with these little books? Anne, I know you can do better.
Rating: Summary: What a disappointment Review: When I first opened "Vittorio," I was so excited. I thought I finally had the old Anne Rice back. Her discriptive power, which has been lagging ever since "Interview" seemed back in full. But as I read on, a dull sense of unease began to creep over me.I was sure I'd read something like this before. I have - in the phone book, which, like "Vittorio," shares a complete lack of characterization. Vittorio the character started off with such promise, but I didn't care about him by the end of the book. He was never developed to the point that I could. Ursala suffers even more; she could have been a cardboard cutout for all the time Rice takes to give her a personality. This makes the "love affair" between the two completely unbelievable. I take my earlier contention back. It's the characters, not the descriptions that make (or made) Anne Rices books good. Unfortunatly, it's not in "Vittorio."
Rating: Summary: I loved it! Review: A great read - I was mesmerized and carried away. A great way to escape the world's cares.
Rating: Summary: Ggorgeous as always Review: After reading the opening chapter I was immediately pulled into the story and the newness of such an unusual vampire. Sadly, I found the rest of the first half of the book to be a barrage of background information about an unlikeable character-- Vittorio. While not everyone can be a Lestat or even an Armand, Vittorio lacked any sort of substance or definition for the first half of the story. His seemingly absent amount of grief for the annihilation of his family left only the dull resolve of his vengeful plans as he blindly stumbled around an interesting town. However, the second half of the story improved considerably and left me wondering if I had simply not given Vittorio a chance. The introduction of Florian as a mercurial sort of vampire with a gorgeously cunning wit helped, and at this point Vittorio's complex nature took shape. The addition of the angels was breathtaking and daring, and left me hungering for a series further exploring these beautiful characters. Once again Anne also used her spellbinding power of breathing life into an actual historic figure by resurrecting the defiant painter Fra Filippo. His presence in this story adds the flair of humor at his wild antics and significantly defines Ramiel and Setheus. Eventually even Vittorio did take on the shade of a wonderfully noble and often stubborn soon-to-become-vampire, and you can't keep from loving him. The ending was shocking and lovely beyond all words, and if only for that I would recommend Vittorio to anyone who ever had an interest in the supernatural or in true "goodness."
