Rating: Summary: Wonderful!! I couldn't put it down!! Review: After reading all of the Vampire novels, I wasn't let down with VITTORIO. It was different from Rice's other books and that was a welcome change. I couldn't wait to see what would happen next to young Vittorio. And I would love to know more about the "Child bride" Ursula, Florian and Godric. The more that I read the more I felt I really knew Vittorio and his love for his family. And the strong pull of his feelings for Ursula. How beautiful it must have been to live in Italy as a young man and as one with "the dark gift". This book only left me wanting more.
Rating: Summary: Vampired Out? Review: This is yet another typical Anne Rice "vampire" novel. There are chapters that seem to go on forever, bogged down in historical background. Anne Rice never gives the reader the chance to get a feel for the main character. If you enjoyed the other books in the vampire chronicles, don't read this book.
Rating: Summary: So-So Review: Does anybody else remember when Anne Rice wrote *stories*? Sigh. This was a book with nearly 300 pages of lush descriptions, occasionally interspersed with a little bit of action. [Nobody does lush like Rice, which is why I didn't give it one star.] Nonetheless, I found myself getting very bored. I didn't regret ending this book!
Rating: Summary: Another masterfully written work by Anne Rice Review: She's done it again. I am amazed at how Ms. Rice writes such eloquent and detailed descriptions of the periods her characaters are in. Her style transforms the reader and takes them to the time n which the story takes place. If I close my eyes, I can almost feel the cold stone of the castle Vittorio lives in. Another excellent tale...I just hope she doesn't keep us waiting too long for the next one.
Rating: Summary: Better than Rice's last 4 or so novels, but still... Review: Anne Rice definitely deserves points for trying something a little different, but the effects are uncertain. Chapters drag on with needless historical detail. Oh yes, and the central character? What exactly is he like? Rice fails to make him vivid, quite simply. His obsession with Ursula I didn't buy for an instant. The whole business with the angels seemed extremely imporbable to me as well.
Rating: Summary: An excellent new novel by Anne Rice. Review: It is the new wave in vampire lovetales, that Anne Rice has created a new world full of life in a different part of the world. This book is to taken in page by page to retain all its detail of hate and love.
Rating: Summary: Well, just another vampire book... Review: I know there are other people like myself that eat everything (at least concerning Vampires) Rice puts in the market; we are all waiting for news about Lestat and his lovers, another journey to the "Dark Gift" or maybe only fun. Vittorio is an enjoyable history; one can have fun with it.But, this book have some very bad points: The first part seems not to finish...I don't know, but it seemed like Rice wanted us to see that she has read a lot of books concerning the Florence history or the Italian paintings...one may like these, but I found extremelly boring! After the characters are introduced, the history adquires a good rhythm and can catch the reader. This is the only reason why I give 4 and not 3 stars to it. But there's nothing very new. It's the same handsome and rich lord that fights between being good or evil after a bloodsucker had entered his life in a tragic way. It reminds me Lestat, Loui and even Armand, altough I consider Lestat the best character of all these. And you have the end...Ok, there is a sort of unnexpected, but that "new era" not true about "all humans having a piece of God inside" is very disappointing. Well, she could have made it better. Pandora was lovely and amazing. I hope the "new tales" really bring some new about this universe that we all love.
Rating: Summary: Anne weaves a masterful tale Review: I can hardly express how much I enjoyed Vittorio. I do have to say though, that I went into reading this amazing work NOT looking for Lestat, or the Witching Hour, or blood and gore. I read it with an open mind. It is NOT one of the Vampire Chronicles, and shouldn't be read as such. I'm dissapointed with the fans that couldn't grasp the concept that there are vampires outside of the small ring. It is wonderful, lush and rich on its own. Yes, it does paint a dark picture of Italy, but that is due to Vittorio's circumstances, having just witnessed the massacre of his family! How should he describe his world? And as for the book being mostly set in his mortal life, it is a change. And change is good. It is supposed to be the story of his early life, which is what it is. And it is amazing. I completely enjoyed the angels' involvement, it was a surprising and lucious twist. I would be greatly dissapointed if Anne didn't challenge what she has done before, and push the boundries of her own worlds, but she does. This is why I will continue to love her. She has never been a "Horror" writer for me, no one should pick up one of her novels expecting this, for you will only be dissapointed. She makes vampires human, giving them thoughts, feelings, and voices, each unique and individual. It's not just about the blood. The imagery in Vittorio is rich, and deep and it is a wonderful work all on its own. She made me really feel Vittorio's pain, and I almost dreaded the moment Ursula tricked him into the dark gift. Though it seems he should have been smarter, I think he really wanted to be fooled. Ah, well, what can I say...Anne has done it again. I think she is growing beyond the little world we've grown comfortable with, and I look forward to seeing what else lies in store.
Rating: Summary: A nice prologue, but where is the novel itself? Review: After finishing Vittorio, I was disappointed, to say the least. The book is flat, no real characterization takes place. Some very interesting characters are introduced only to be beheaded fifty pages later. I would have liked to read more about Florian, Godric and the Court instead of the angels and Fra Filippo.
Rating: Summary: I'll give it a C- Review: I have all of Anne Rice's books. I try not to compare the new books to the old ones but I was very dissapointed with Vittario. The story started off good but quickly became dull and lifeless. There is too much missing in this book! What has Vittario been doing for the last five hundred years? Where was he when Akasha was destroying all of her kind? There is a small link to him and the other vampires that is missing. And the ending was so dull it made me feel I had wasted my time on the first 200 pages. I hope that on the next book she remains to be as detailed as she is known to be. To Anne: I still love you but come on I know you can do so much better.
