Rating: Summary: far from the perfection Review: I applaued Rice's colorful description, furthermore her undaying passion whitch showes it self in her work. Rice's world is filled with dark beauty. yet her new book is too short and really lakes debth. It seems written only to demonstrate her love for that particilar age, as if she wrote it upon a visit to florance just to immortalize an imortal city. but non the less I may seem harsh yet the level of perfection maintained by Rice has demolished in this book
Rating: Summary: Powerfully descriptive, pulls you into 15th century Italy Review: As you can probably tell from the reviews, you will either love this book or hate it. If you love highly descriptive writings that pull you into the time and setting of a story, then you'll love this book. If all your after is action and suspense then you should look somewhere else for reading materials. This novel paints a beautiful picture of the settings and lifestyle of Vittorio's mortal existance, as well as the events that bring about his mortal demise.
Rating: Summary: A middle of the road effort Review: I have been a great fan of Ms. Rice since I discovered her work a decade ago. I was very excited about Vittorio...The key word there is was. After reading the book I am more convinced then ever that the Vampire series needs to be put to rest. Maybe I am biased...Lestat and Louis and the original vampires can never be beat in my opinion. As always Rice paints a very beautiful picture of Florence and Italy, but I think that she forgot to paint beautiful characters as well. The book was not what I had hoped for, but not as bad as it could have been.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Story! (Different but Similar review to Pandora) Review: I believe I found this book in the wrong section, it was in Fiction. This is the first Anne Rice book I've LISTENED TO, now Im READING Pandora. Of these two books, I believe they both focus on the incorrect elements of the story. I wanted to read a Vampire story, however what I read was a dissertation on Italian Art and Religous History. I was dissapointed that the books were not about the story of a Vampire's life as a Vampire, but rather as the events living up to the point they become a Vampire...do you agree? I am starting on the Interview series next, maybe Lestat, since I already saw the movie, and Im hoping this book is much different. Good Points; well...It is available in the supercool format of BIG PRINT and AUDIO CASSETTE UNABRIDGED!!! PS - Oh WAIT! there is a Cool part where he is in this ruined Overlook Castle above this wierd city!
Rating: Summary: First 2/3 good, ending lost me Review: I loved the book up until the end. The ending was kind of a letdown for me, it felt too much like a cop-out than a real resolution. While Vittorio and Ursula were interesting, I felt the book needed to be placed somewhere in the context of the Chronicles. It just seems like a standalone volume more than...well, part of a series.
Rating: Summary: Teeeeeriffic! Review: To tell everyone the truth, I loved this book! The way it brought me into the world of Italy was amazing. By the end of the novel, I did go and find out more about Fra Filippo Lippi and Cosimo and Fra Angelico and all the other wonderful characters Rice had intertwined with her story. I also loved it because it had absolutely nothing to do with the New Orleans Vampires, and states this quite clearly in the beginning. Congratulations on a job well done Anne! :o)
Rating: Summary: Worst in a series of declining tales. Review: I've read all her books. The Mayfair Witches, all the vampire series'. All of them. Nothing was better than an Anne Rice book on a long plane trip. I couldn't wait for the newest Rice book to hit the stores. With Vittorio, things took a dramatic turn. I almost couldn't finish it. I put it down so many times (out of sheer BOREDOM!) only to pick it back up in the hope it would improve. It didn't. Skip this one.
Rating: Summary: Anne Rice does it again!!! Review: Anne Rice is great with her vampire books. But I have to say that this is one of the best ones I've read. I mean Lestat was good but I agree with the one of the reviewees. He whined to much. I liked the fact that Ursula cared for Vittorio. But she seemed like a minor character. But over all I loved this book and I would not mind reading it at least four times. But hopefully she will write a book about Ursula.
Rating: Summary: Not bad, but misses the mark Review: Like others, I keep coming back to Anne Rice in the hopes that she is going to slam one out of the park....She's got such original spins on ideas and I love the way she portreys the sensuality of her charachters. She's got vivid descriptive skills and at times her writting is absolutely sumptuous. The elements for great novels are all there...and yet again I leave this novel dissapointed. Of course the imagery is quite good. Of course some elements of the story are far more creative than anything else on the shelves today (wheither you like the angels or not - I like that she took a creative risk with them). But then elements of the plot just seem to fall apart. I can't for the life of me figure out why Vittoro goes from hating Ursula to loving her. And while there are a million possibilities - Rice doesn't serve up a single one. The whole story pivots on that point and so for the last half of the novel, I struggled with that. And Ursula was supposed to be so powerful - there was so much more that could have been done to elaborate on that idea that would have lead to an even richer and more complete story. Vittorio is a nice easy read but I really wish I had saved my $13 and borrowed it from the Library. Amazing what an attractive cover will compell you to buy :^).
Rating: Summary: Anne Rice is beautiful and articulate. Review: I drank this book so fast as it quenched my ravenous hunger for her vampire community. The book was over too soon and I await the next vampire novel.Anne tells such a good tale and not only is it a pleasure reading her books , it is also a learning experience in art and history. Well done.
