Summary: A Great Book To Read Over And Over
Review: This book is great. I can now see why Stephen King is in Awe of Dan Simmons.

Summary: Waiting for the movie!
Review: This book is touching, nostalgic, humorous, intelligent, and frightening. Well, maybe the "monster" here is not quite that scary (if you're past puberty) and the ending is a little anti-climactic.. but if you can put yourself in the shoes of these kids ( a group remniscient of the kids in King's It or The Body), you can feel their fear and experience the struggles of the kids. The characters are diverse and many humorous, and if you have relatives from small towns, you could even recognize your town here.. the picture woven by Simmons is very vivid. Great book, ought to be a great movie.

Summary: As if Ray Bradbury had written To Kill a Mockingbird
Review: When I bought this, I anticipated that it would be a Stephen King-ish novel about supernatural doings in a small town. Boy, did I get a surprise. This was indeed a page turner, but what astonished me was the depth of characterization and the authentic feel of the locale. This is more than a good read: this is good literature. It was one that I wanted to read as fast as I could because I was so concerned about the characters, but which I read more slowly because it had such substance. It was distressing to see that this title, though not officially out of print, is classified as difficult to find. This news should send readers scurrying to the used book stores to get their hands on "Summer of Night" while they still can.

Summary: One of the best I've ever read. Couldn't put it down.
Review: I absolutely loved the book, would like to see a movie version or at least audio. It's the only horror book I've ever read twice.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Sweet nostalgia mixed with delicious horror
Review: One of the best horror books of the past two decades. As Simmons recaptures the joys and fears of childhood, along with its innocent, and sometimes comical, rituals; he makes the reader long to be 12 years old again in the carefree days of endless summers. Anyone who grew up in the rural midwest in the middle of this century will recognize Elm Haven as home, as Simmons paints a vivid portrait of a small town with its tree-shaded streets, sun-drenched fields and unique characters. As the children lose their innocence in the face of diabolical evil, the reader recognizes that America, also, is poised at the end of its innocence as the 60s usher in Kennedy's assassination and Viet Nam. The spine-tingling horror and nail-biting suspense keep you turning the pages, but they take a back seat to sweet nostalgia that leaves you longing for more time in 1960 Elm Haven.

Obviously influenced by the work of Stephen King, Simmons creates strong dialogue and realistic characterizations. But with deep poignancy and gentle humor, he weaves a rich tapestry of time and place with literary talent that far surpasses King's.

Summary: What a great book!
Review: This was the best book I've read in a long, long time. Ignore the review below - this is highly recommended

Summary: Is this the same Dan Simmons that wrote Hyperion?
Review: After reading the Hyperion series, which I found to be maybe the best SF books I had ever read, I jumped on this book when I found it on a shelf. What a disappointment! It was the silliest story I had read in a long time, only worth of the cheapest b-movie. I find it hard to believe that someone with the talent shown by Dan Simmons in the Hyperion series can write rubbish like this.

Summary: Sleep with the lights on...
Review: The best novel I have ever read, barnone. They should make this book required reading in English and Lit classes, only you'd probably flunk because you wouldn't sleep well for weeks. The chilling horror aside, this book is so real you can almost feel the hot summer sweat on your face when you read it. A total bombardment of the mind and senses

Summary: A great book
Review: One of the best horror books I've ever read

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A horror classic in the style of Stephen King
Review: As a "pure horror-grab you by the seat of the pants-keep you up all night" book, this novel does not have many equals. Dan Simmons taps the absolute horror that only a child can understand and consistantly throws it in your face page after page. One of the best 10 horror novels this century
