Rating: Summary: Yet another great getaway from King Review: This book has the making of a very creepy situation. Who else would of thought of this sort of scenerio? I found myself alone one evening right before bed reading the chapter where the evil thing made of bones has his first appearance and I have to admit, I shot a quick glance toward the corner of my room, just in case. King can do this, and maybe it isn't his Nobel Peace Prize winner, but it sure is worth the ride!!
Rating: Summary: Wordy ... Boring ... Clever Review: I think this is a boring story ... 400+ pages about a lady tight up in a bed? I think he could have written the same story in 40 pages max ... I guess you could say that the author does an amazing job writing a whole novel about one lady in one room ... But why should the author and the reader be handicapped like that? ... What is it some kind of writing excerise? ... Anybody else writes this book and it never gets published
Rating: Summary: Surprisingly good Review: While not among King's best novels, Gerald's Game is surprisingly good given the plot. I was amazed how well King was able to keep my interest when 90% (or more) of the novel takes place in one room with one (more or less) character. It is quite an accomplishment.
Rating: Summary: You people are missing the point! Review: This book is a psychological thriller. Boring you say?!!? Eau contraire! Just imagine yourself tied up in a remote cabin, fighting for your life. Suddenly trying desperately to get that glass of water is a lot more interesting, huh? Watching the main character regress deeper and deeper within herself and her subconscious is really terrifying, especially if you consider what YOUR demons might be if it were YOU in the situation. Very very good book.
Rating: Summary: 400 Pages Too Long Review: Talk about a long dark night of the soul--this was a dark week of the soul! This woman gets to retrospect about her whole boring WASPy childhood and equally dull marriage while handcuffed to a bed in a rural cottage. We get to experience that boredom and scrutiny minutiae with her. Yikes. Forget the water, you're gonna need a good strong scotch to get through this one.
Rating: Summary: This book was another one of Stephen King's horrifying tales Review: Gerald's Game takes place in the fall season in the month of October. Jesse and Gerald Burlingame are alone in the bedroom of their Maine summer house. They are playing a game but not a game people play every day. When Jesse hears the sound of the second lock of the handcuff, she realizes she is not the one in control anymore and does not like this. Jesse panics as her husband is looming over her and her next move is violent and deadly. Jesse is handcuffed to the bed for the next 28 hours and comes face to face with all the things she has feared as the back door of their summer home is swinging open letting her horrors in. Gerald's Game is written by Stephen King. Stephen King is able to provide the reader in suspense and horror. Students my age can relate to this because all kids have fears that they have to face at one time or another, whether it is by them selves or with a group of their friends. The audience reading this book enjoys it because it puts you on the edge of their seats, but at the same time they can't put it down. This book is easy to understand and it will give you a good scare.
Rating: Summary: Read another King book like 'The Green Mile' or something Review: OK, I'll just cut to the chase THIS BOOK WAS TERRIBLE!!! This book is about a woman who gets chained to the bed after her husband dies. Then for about 30 chapters she is still chained to the bed and her biggest obstacle is getting a glass of water (wow true suspense!). There is a few parts, however, where some strange man is in the house, and that started getting interesting, but it turns out he does nothing big, except carry a briefcase with a bunch of bones in it. I have read most of Stephen King's books and I liked them all except for this one and 'Carrie'. If you really want to read a good King novel read 'The Green Mile' or 'Christine' (those are my 2 favorites so far) but don't waste your time with 'Gerald's Game'.
Rating: Summary: I'll be different and favor the book Review: It seems every review I read now days, when mentioning how they love King's works, is always accompanied with a "except Gerald's Game." I, for one loved this book. In fact, call me crazy, but after reading plenty of King's works, it's one of my favorites. People say it drags on, but I found it to be very suspenseful. The way King presents the storyline, along with Jessie, gives the reader the image of woman's "modern struggle," which is what I believe King intended to do. This was accomplished with the intertwining of Jessie's memory of being molested with her being stuck onto the bed.
Rating: Summary: Summary: Long book about nothing Review: How many chapters can you write about a woman cuffed to a bedpost? Chapter after chapter I plodded through this book, through such excitement as (1) cuffed woman wants glass of water on bedside table (2) cuffed woman needs to pee (3) dog comes in the room and cuffed woman is afraid. Save yourself and find a better book to read.
Rating: Summary: Definitely not my favorite... Review: I have read all of King's books, and this one was my least favorite. Overall, I love it when he changes his style a bit (Eye of the Dragon, two of the books from the Dark Tower series, etc. were great)...but I just couldn't get into this one. The plot was somewhat interesting, but the story DRAGGED. I kept reading, thinking the ending would make the story worth reading. This couldn't be FURTHER from the truth! I think the ending actually ruined the book. It was totally unrelated, just didn't fit in at all. Of all of King's books, I wouldn't recommend this one.
