Rating: Summary: complete waist of time and money Review: getting this book i was thinking to myself, i love erotic books, i like most of anne rice's vampire chronical, her writing's pretty good when it comes to being sensual - what can go wrong?! well apparently this book's a serious evident to what can go wrong.a story of a 44 year old artist who falls for a sexy pretty teenages who's also indipendet, smart and only want him yto love her. excuse me?! where's the dilema? isn't this just about every man's midlife crsise thing? there's a lot of art talk in this book, which being an artist myself seemed shallow and [silly] to me. i don't see the big contrivercy of an older men sleeping with a younger woman, i mean very since woody elen-sue ying thing it has been prove that people recover quite easaly from that getting out, i just couldn't see the dilema. as the book go we learn more and more about the misterious belina (nothing that doesn't fall into place and isn't extramly predictable) making her the perfect completly unrealistic charecter (having that much education, compassion and no will of her own exept for everyone to basicly be happy) and the book just goes on and on without one surpis or twist or anything. this isn't an erotic book, it has no actual sex dscription in it and i didn't find it turning on in any way, at some point i just went on reading cause i just hoped lestat would enter that book at some point and kill everyone or somthing. if you want to read erotics, read de-sade or laura antoniue or gorge bettile, if you want to read anne rice go to any one ofher noumerious books, this is just one big bore.
Rating: Summary: The Best Review: Belinda is the best book Anne Rice ever wrote. No, stop looking at me like that. It is. It is lush as her books always are, but the plot, pacing and characters are truly original. I am married to a painter who is also into realism and her portrayal of the mindset was so vivid to me, I had to wonder if she knew my husband. The characters are engaging and easy to sympathize with, and she draws you into her world so strongly that you really don't want to leave - even if you're not an Entertainment Tonight watcher.
Rating: Summary: Pleasantly Surprising and Artfully Sensuous!! Review: I bought this book naive to its story, but after two pages I was hooked. Jeremy Walker is an endearing and charming character any reader could fall in love with, and Belinda is a complex, sophisticated, and lovely childwoman. Although taboo one can believe their relationship to seem quite natural. I am usually not a fan of erotic novels, however the plot is rather insightful and delves into a complex story worth reading.
Rating: Summary: I don't get it... Review: Based on the majority of the glowing reviews on this book I decided to buy it. The visual imagery produced in my mind's eye by the writing was incredible, but I don't feel that this book was all that. Somehow I felt everyone is just raving about it because the author is Anne Rice. Jeremy and Belinda's relationship is just plain weird, I can't understand how a love like Jeremy's and Belinda's can develop given their differences, first starting on age, background as well as the things Jeremy did to/for Belinda. What is the attraction for both of them here?? Why someone as independent and strong in character as Belinda would go back to Jeremy after what he did to her in New Orleans is beyond me. The ending was a total letdown from the way it started.
Rating: Summary: I hope it's made into a movie someday Review: The visual descriptions are excellent. I could visualize such things as Jeremy's paintings, Belinda's expressions, her beautiful blonde hair, etc. The emotions are believable. I had hoped that there would be a movie and Alicia Silverstone would play Belinda. I have read Belinda twice, about 5 years apart, and could read it a third time. If I come to a point where I have nothing else to read, I know that Belinda is sitting on my shelf and will not disappoint.
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put it down! Review: Wow, by far the best book i have ever read. The relationship between Belinda and Jeremey was even more exciting because it was forbidden, a society 'No'!
Rating: Summary: Riveting! Review: This book about a 44 year-old Children's author who falls in love with a mysterious teenage girl was simply riveting. The story was told with a voice and a mood that made you want to turn every page to see what would happen next. This is my first Anne Rice book and I plan on reading many more. For adults, probably not for anyone under 16 or 17.
Rating: Summary: Teenate vamp Review: Of Ann Rice's books outside her vampire series, this is my favorite. Belinda is teenager with the knowledge and ideas of an older experienced woman. Also, she had no homosexual episodes in this book, nor is there is sadomasichism. Like Lolita, it is sexy without being pornography. I liked it, and have ordered it to read again after several years.
Rating: Summary: Holy Communion... Review: This story truly reinvents the expression of "what's best for the child." Rice's writing is lush as always-- passionately careful, enticing you along the road of the pages. Somewhat similar to Nabakov's "Lolita," in the sense of the older man obsessed with the vibrant, mysterious nymphette. However, the heroine in Nabakov's tale slowly loses her shimmer as the years go by, eventually succumbing to the role of victim herself. "Belinda" is the paradox of the sad Delores. She soars into her role of the heroine, and asks us to soar with her.
Rating: Summary: Seductive and emotional Page Turner! Review: After reading Anne's Rice's erotic stories of Sleeping Beauty, I was much disappointed in her ability to write fiction outside of the "vampire" realm. Am I glad I didn't give up! Not only is the book erotic (all though not as explicit as the Beauty Trilogy), it wraps you in within the first couple of chapters and brings you into the mind of Jeremy Walker so deeply that I found myself thinking of him and the woman he loves as real people! Not only is the book a fine display of seduction and obesession,... it is a story of love and trust. I was dang near in tears in many sections, and keenly turned on during others. The plot is rich, and doesn't bore you with needless details. It's definitely a book that makes you wish it would never finish.
