Rating: Summary: The best of the series so far Review: Not as deeply off the subject as Wizard and Glass, more involved than The Gunslinger, less "ordinary" than the Drawing of the Three, the Waste Lands brings hints of science fiction at the beginning while deeping the fascinating theme of coincidence which is really an amazingly complex series of convergences. We learn more about the three who have been drawn, fear for Roland's mind as he teeters on the edge of madness, understand more about how Mid-World relates to ours, fear for our lives at the hands of Blaine the Mono and are truly drawn into the story as each of the companions begins to feel the pull of the Dark Tower . . . A fascinating and engrossing read. I don't know anybody who's read the Dark Tower series who isn't pining for the next installment.
Rating: Summary: Better Than the First Two!! Review: King has captured me once again. The Wastelands takes the reader into Roland's world for a third time, each time making it more realistic and more fantastic. Time to get the fourth - Wizard and Glass.
Rating: Summary: A Real Let Down After Drawing Of The Three Review: I read the drawing of the three in two days and couldnt wait to start this one. It started out great, untill it starts up with the stupid part about Jake and the Rose or whatever. Chapters two and three of this book are some of the worst writing ive ever soiled my hands with. I mean, Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz........ But the book redeems itsself later on with the part about gasher and tick tock man and Blaine the mono. Overall Grade:C
Rating: Summary: An excellent start to the beginning of the ka-tets journey. Review: Being a huge fan of the dark tower series, I was hooked the moment I first read this book. It finally teaches us more of Rolands search for the Tower and really makes the reader feel like the true quest for the tower has finally begun. Also, if anyone has any informationas to when the special edition of this book will become available again through amazon, please email me.
Rating: Summary: Looking forward to the next one(s)!!!! Review: Each book in the series gets longer and better. There is so much information that is given throughout the course of the book; sometimes it's hard to keep focus. There are plenty of twists and turns. Overall a pretty good read!!!! I can't wait to read DT IV, then V, then one day hopefully the Dark Tower will be found.
Rating: Summary: It's amazing what different opinions people can have Review: I love these customer reviews. I don't always write them myself, but this was one of the first books in a while which I actually didn't enjoy. I think unfavorable reviews are always more fun to write, as well as read. I logged on expecting others to agree with my dislike of this book, but found quite a few reviews to the contrary. I've probably read 12-15 Stephen King books in my life. I love to be scared. Salem's Lot, great scary book. Pet Semetary, ditto. Two birthdays ago, my sister-in-law buys me Wizard and Glass, which I tried to start, and of course I had no idea what was going on. So I started the series at the beginning, actually listening to the unabridged audio cassettes. The first two were read by Frank Muller, whom Stephen King has named as his favorite reader of audio books. I marginally enjoyed these two, if nothing else but to hear Muller read. He is the man. Well, Stephen King reads The Waste Lands himself. Yikes! Frank Muller must have been of vacation or something. I'd listened to Stephen King read Desperation, a much better book, a while back, and all I can say is WRITE 'EM, DON'T READ 'EM!!! King's nasally, New England drone is rather horrible for, like, sixteen hours worth of book. But back to the book itself. I guess I just didn't care after about half of this book. It just seemed like he was dragging it out, trying to build suspense, and it just got boring. No real scares, no empathy for the characters, just a lot of wanna-be Tolkienisms. This is cookie-cutter writing of the type King is most often accused of. That's just my opinion, though.
Rating: Summary: More intelligent, suspensful, and fun then the first two. Review: The third installment to the Dark Tower series is a must have. Very descriptive when the characters reached the town of Lud and very suspensful when they try to find out the riddle with the prime numbers. Crafty, and enjoyable. Great job Stephen my man.
Rating: Summary: Very hard to let go of, even when your not reading it Review: It amazes me how he can pick up where he left off with no lapse in anything. This book picked up where the others left off, I was glad I had them all at one time and did not have to wait for each one. I found myself thinking about the story and the characters at all times of the day, at work home everywhere. Too many times I was late for work because I could not put the book down at night. I highly recomend this set of books.
