Rating: Summary: They only meant to scare him... Review: Set in a wild, windy, southwestern day, Was when 5 students decided they would kill Mr. Griffin. Louis Duncan author of Block Buster hit " I know What You Did Last Summer" writes a novel called "Killing Mr. Griffin". It is about 5 teenage students that want sweet revenge on their teacher Mr. Griffin. The only thing is will everything go as they planned, or will they regret what they did forever. The five main characters in the book are Susan, David, Jeff, Betsy, and Mark. Susan is the shy kind of girl, David lives with his mom and grandma, Jeff works on cars, Betsy is a popular girl and if any one does anything to her that she doesn't like she hates them, and Mark is one who makes trouble. These teenage boys and girls all do not like Mr. Griffin. Mr. Griffin gives to much home work, and pressures everyone. Mr. Griffin has a wife who is pregnant with a child. Susan, David, Jeff, Betsy, and Mark all plan on kidnapping Mr. Griffin and taking him up to a secret spot in the mountains that only they know about. Once they got there they would make him plead for forgiveness, and freedom. Everything goes all right, they think. Did they think how they were going to get rid of his car, or if Mr. Griffin had any medications to take. You will find all of this out once you read this book. In one scene Betsy and Jeff are driving Mr. Griffins car and a cop is following them. Will they get caught, will they run from the law, will the cop not notice, or will they get put in prison, each one of these is a possibility. This book contains everything from kidnapping a teacher to someone being trapped in a house while it is on fire. Killing Mr. Griffin is everything I look for in a book and that is suspense, action, and a great and an astonishing ending. The kids only meant to scare him, but sometimes the best plans go very wrong.
Rating: Summary: Not the Best book, but still good Review: The summary on the back of the book kind of gives away a important point, but even if you know what is going to happen the book is still enjoyable. The characters in this book are very well described. I'm sure we all know people we can relate these characters to. The plot was slow going at first, but suspensful at the end. Lois Duncan has written books with better writing styles (like Stranger With My Face) but the book's style was easy to follow. I gave this book only 4stars because I thought that Duncan could have done a better job with this, but it is still a great book. I would suggest being Middle School age or older to get the full affect of this book. Read this if you thought the plot to the movie "Teaching Mrs. Tingle" was good. If you have seen that movie and didn't like it, you probably won't like this book. But read it any way, what do you have to lose?
Rating: Summary: Ending is hard to understand, but the rest is well writtten Review: Susan Mconnell is far from being voted most popular in her school, but one day she bumps into the most popular boy in her class and the next thing she knows hes asking her on a date. Mark, David, Jeff and Betsey are convinced that this teacher, Mr. Griffen, Is the meanest cold hearted man they have ever met. This date was setup by mark, Jeff, David and Betsy so that susan would agree to distract the hardest, yet best, teacher in shcool while Mark and Jeff creep up behide him and kidnap him to a spot that only one other person knows about. Susan soon relises how mark has gone mad, but will she save Mr. Griffen's and her own life in time, read KILLING MR. GRIFFIN to find out. This book is very interesting to see what each character will do next. I recomend it to ages 12 and above.
Rating: Summary: This is the fourth year I have taught Killing Mr Griffin Review: This is the fourth year I have taught Killing Mr Griffin my English classroom. Why do I keep coming back to it? Well, it deals with controversial issues such as peer group pressure, popularity, revenge and responsibility. Also, it inspires some thoughtful discussions about the impact teachers have on our lives. (Surprisingly, most students acknowledge that while there will be personality conflicts with teachers, there are better solutions out there than killing them.) The novel contains some interesting intertextual references to Hamlet and actually encouraged some girls to rent the Mel Gibson video. There are some drawbacks to studying the novel. In many ways the book is preachy and message-driven. I also found the character of Mark to be a stereotypical 'baddie'. All in all, it is a well-written book that requires the students to confront their strongly held beliefs and attitudes towards learning.
Rating: Summary: HOW I RATED MR GRIFFIN Review: The book was slow starting when getting to the action, though once the action started to open up it really kept me in suspence. As I turned each page it just got better and better. Though I recomened older readers for this book as there are certain things that young readers may not understand.
Rating: Summary: Killing Mr Griffin Review: I think That the book was Sort of interesting. The best part of the book was when Mr Griffin Got kidnaped by the kids. He had a heart problem.
Rating: Summary: Interesting Review: We found this book okay to read, it was interesting enough to read and report on but it could have been better. The parts we liked were when Mr Griffin died and when susan was tired up. Betsy was our fave character.
Rating: Summary: unrealistic Review: This book of Lois Duncan was about couple of teens kidnapping their teacher which atcually it doesn't turn the way they planned. This book was an okay but no one would do something like this.
Rating: Summary: Killing Mr Griffin: At least One good book for English Review: Killing Mr Griffin is a book that is a bit boring at the start but it gets intresting towards the middle/end.It is about 5 students that want revenge on their English literature and Composition teacher. They set out there plan and Mark would not love any thing more than to see Mr Griffin pay for being the way he is. I think it was one of the best book that i have had to read in English. The book is a bit like teaching mrs tingle.
