She is a wonderful author.Breakdown: A few kids decide to pull a prank on their annoying teacher, Mr. Griffin. The prank takes an unexpected turn when the teacher whinds up dead. The students are frantic and they try to cover up the death/murder. This book is a great suspense as is all of Lois Duncans books. Rating: Summary: Whacking out Mr. Griffin... Review: I don't know why I chose to review a novel I read about 11 years ago in early high school now. My English teacher had some contempt for it. But for some reason, part of the novel stuck with me. Sure, it's Lois Duncan, who pretty much cranked out young-teen books and owned a big part of that market. Dependable writing, generally. Killing Mr. Griffin stays interesting because it's about a psychopath who manipulates other students into the title act. It's not told from the killer's point of view; the story is all from the most sympathetic female's pov. Nevertheless, in this day and age of post-Columbine, Ritaline-addicted youth, this book is powerful in the high school setting. I think it highlights the apathy and coldness of young people and the misdirected rage. Duncan is not fancy. The storytelling is straightforward. But the sinister plot to freak out Mr. Griffin followed by the sudden death and the actions of the guilty group make this a pretty quick, compelling read. My English teacher must have thought this was popular drivel, but I think with age it takes on relevance and still works.
Rating: Summary: Killing Mr. Griffin Review: Five teenagers decide to kidnnap their English teacher. They bring him to the mountains, and leave him there. But something unexpected happened. Sometimes people cannot guess at the consequences of their actions. I recommended this book to any young adult from the age of 12-16 who like mysteries.
Rating: Summary: Real Teens Review: I thought this novel had a great plot construction. You'd think most of the tension would be leading up to the teacher's death, but there is a good deal more after the teacher's death. Also, I thought the kids in the story seemed real. Their reactions were just like the ones my friends would have
Rating: Summary: GREAT BOOK HERE Review: This was an exciting book the kids kidnapp their teacher and everyone starts to find . so read this book to find out . Duncan leaves you on the egde of your seat .
Rating: Summary: Killing Mr. Griffin Review: This book is about five teenagers who decide to kidnap their English teacher, Mr. Griffin, just to scare him. When Mr. Griffin is about to get into his car, they blindfold him and take him to the mountains. They tie him up and leave him there. Then their kidnapping takes a frightening, unexpected turn. I would recommend this book to anybody who likes mystery stories. It is an easy book to read, and fun.
Rating: Summary: Killing Mr. Griffin Review: Frustrated students at a high school in New Mexico kidnap a teacher named Brian Griffin just to scare him. But he died while the teens left him the mountain until he begged to set him free. Then they panicked and then they tried to. The main character Mr. Griffin died and that is how he was changed. Yes I would because the book has a lot of suspense and the story line is great. I would give the book a 5 in the rating process. This was a good book that all young teens should enjoy.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: I really liked this book. It was very climactic and had a great plot. I liked it how all the characters really realized what they did wrong, and how Griffin's wife was able to forgive them. This was a great book.
Rating: Summary: It was not Mr. Griffin, but the book that was killed Review: ...I started reading this book in the afternoon and had to stop after the first few chapters. I mean, seriously. The girl is 16. 16-year-olds do not obsess about guys (or if they do, not one guy) enough to dream about him every night for years. If, oddly, they do, they will ASK HIM OUT after the first few months of obsession. Also, when 16-year-old girls get asked on a date, they do not just "comb their hair" and leave. Nuh-uh ... I know that instead a 16-year-old girl will try every new thing possible with her hair and then her clothes before leaving. I was literally cringing at the bad writing, so I put it down. We're reading it for English, so I had to pick it up again, which I did. The rest of the book was predictable-- I mean, duh about the pills. And the character of Mark was not developed very well... In fact, the entire book is based upon something that would never happen... The book makes it seem like all teenagers are impulsive idiots who kill people daily. Sorry hun, but no. If you aren't required to read this book, then don't. If you are, I'm sorry.
Rating: Summary: Slightly incomplete Review: This is another awsome work from Lois Duncan. The theme of the story is excellent and amusing and the author did an excellent job expressing it. However, at the end it seemed to be missing several things such as the ring that Grandma Ruggles felt connected to and its conection to Mr. Griffin. Also it did not surprise me the way it did to other people that Mark was a phycopath. I seemed to know that the entire time I was reading it. Maybe it could have been more unexpected if it was Dave since the reader knew more and had more of a connection to him. All in all it was another great read from Lois Duncan and I very much enjoyed it.
