Rating: Summary: Very entertaining! Review: "Killing Mr. Griffin" is a fairly unrealistic book, but still a fun read. The basic plot idea is that a group of teenagers are going to gang up on a hated English teacher, Mr. Griffin, and just "scare" him. Each student has his or her own reason to hate Griffin -- one student was kept from graduating just becaue he wouldn't pass him, another is a straight "A" student who only recieves a "B" in Griffin's class, and other various teenage tales. The kids plan out an elaborate plot in order to take Griffin to an unknown area out by a river, tie him up, and make him change his ways forever. Things go wrong when Griffin unexpectedly passes due to missing a dose of his heart medication. This tells the story of the kids trying to cover up their tracks ... I really enjoyed this book, and would recommend it to any teen for a good laugh!
Rating: Summary: This is the best book I have ever read! Review: Killing Mr. Griffin was a great book. My over all opinion of this book was that it was very suspenceful. It was a book that you didn't want to put down. You wanted to keep reading to find out what happened. It was about these students that were getting tired of their English teacher so they wanted to do something about it. So they took him up to the mountains to scare him. He needed to take this certain kind of medicine but he never got it because of what they did. What do you think will happen to Mr. Griffin? What will their consequences be? I really liked this book alot. My favorite part was when these hikers that were up in the mountains found Mr. Griffin's body. This was a good book, but the begining was slow. However it didn't make it to where I wouldn't read it again. I would recommend this book to someone that would like mysteries or thrillers.
Rating: Summary: Killing Mr. Griffin Review: Killing Mr. Griffin is about these students that dislike their English teacher (Mr. Griffin) a lot. The hate him so much, that they come up with this very cruel plan. They want to kidnap him and scare him. They don't plan to kill him, but anything can go wrong. They leave him up at the mountains for about six hours. When they go back, they find him... dead. Now, how do they get rid of the body in a way where they can't get caught? They can't... Killing Mr. Griffin is a great and frightening book. I like this book, because it makes you want to finish it, especially on the end of the middle. I like murder books like Killing Mr. Griffin. There are very exciting parts in the book. Like when they leave him up in the mountains and they try to get away. Here is a quote that explains when they are leaving Mr. Griffin, "Betsy turned to throw one last look at the man by the stream. He was lying very still. Only his chest was moving-up and down-up and down-as though he had been running hard. Betsy had a sudden childish impulse to run back and step on his face." Killing Mr. Griffin is a very good book. This book is thrilling, but there are some boring parts and extremely sad parts. A boring part was when Mr. Griffin was talking to his wife. It was quite boring but I still read it. A sad part was when they kidnapped Mr. Griffin. Their plan was to make this girl (Susan) stall him long enough (by a conference) so that they could capture him while no one sees...So the middle was the best part of the whole book. I think this book is a great book. Killing Mr. Griffin is one of the best murder books I ever read. It was suspenseful and amusing. Though you have to read some parts again because it get confusing. I think everyone should at least read this book once.
Rating: Summary: Unusual Read Brings Joy Review: I am a freshman in a rural school district. I read the book Killing Mr. Griffin by Lois Duncan for my English class. My teacher and my brother recommended this book to me. I really enjoyed this book even though it wasn't what I would normally read. I enjoyed it because it was easy to relate to. By this I mean that everyone at one time or another can pick out a teacher who had been tough on them and made it really hard to pass their class. It's also easy to relate to because it deals with ordinary kids our age and not from some odd place. I really liked how they made the people real. How the one was your next-door-neighbor type that's not perfect, but most everybody likes and gets along with. Killing Mr. Griffin also included the shy girl, your typical jock guy, and then your quiet very moral guy. Then they had the odd one that nobody really knows much about, but accepts anyway. I recommend this book to Middle School and High School students. I think most anybody could read this book because it has a lot of different types of characters and literature. There is drama, suspense, murder, and also the fact that it's easy to relate to. I give this book a 4 1/2.
Rating: Summary: a gripping tale of wishful thinking, kidnap, murder, & lies Review: Killing Mr. Griffin is a book which can stand the test of time. I first read the book in 1983 while in middle school. After my dog ate the cover, I purchased the book and have reread it three time, the last being April 6, 1997. I decided to read the book because of the TV movie airing. Overall, the book showed a great deal of emotions and the character profiles were are target. Ms. Duncan correctly described the life and time of high schoolers. The book keeps the reader captivated from start to finish. The one aspect which has changed as the years have gone by is the sympathy one feels for Mr. Griffin. When I first read it , the notion of kidnapping a teacher was interesting and then the reader feels the anquish and pain of the kids as they try to cover up their wrong. Now, after I reread the book, the reader felt the pain of Mr. Griffin as well as the hurt and sorrow for his wife. In conclusion, the reader recommends the book for anyone interesting in this genre
Rating: Summary: "Run!" Review: "Run!" was the last phrase Mr. Griffin said to one of his 'better students' after a conference with Susan McConnell before he was abducted to a far away place in the mountains. Mark Kinney, a teenage psychopath, planned a very discreet strategy when he was setting up the plot to murder his incredibly strict language teacher who was going to become a father. Mark Kinney, who always knew what to do, arranged the plan certain people, a certain place, and a certain time for everything. Mark even picked the class nerd; Susan McConnell. After Mark Kinney went after his teacher, he went after his friend's grandmother and then he made a challenge to attack Susan McConnell when she made an effort to tell the police. Susan was saved after when Mrs. Kathy Griffin went in so Susan can tell her side of story when she saw her group abduct Mr. Griffin. Luckily, she was saved and she told the truth...and she and the other members were to go on trial.
Rating: Summary: excellent Review: This book is one of my personal favorites. Last year, I (was assigned) to read it in reading class, but as soon as I got into it, it wasn't such a drag. I love the way that Lois Duncan writes, and the plot was excting and well worded. I finished the book in one night, because I couldn't put it down. I couldn't wait to finish the book, but when I was at the end, I wished for more. I wish that there was a sequel, but at the same time, I don't, because the story would be different. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for an excellent book, and an excellent author. I have read Killing Mr. Griffin ten times so far, and I have also read others by Lois Duncan which are almost as good.
Rating: Summary: A good story. Review: Four Kids are the main characters along with Mr.Griffin. A girl named susan narrates the book, usally the geek, she gets invited to a place by a bunch of popular girls and guys where nobody usally goes to. When the evil plot comes into order. The kids want to SCARE there evil english Teacher Mr.Griffin. The kids intended to just scare him, they never intended to murder the poor guy. With Mark as the psycho kid who burns cats, and thinks his life is horrible, he does something else, which is worse. With Dave as the soft guy and with Betsy as the popular girl, look-at-me type. This book shows you different types of people who were well though of and L. Duncan really did a great job in making her books different, being this is one of the last L. Duncan books I have read. I noticed every story is unique and different, one with there dad as a FBI agent to a girl who has a "Third Eye" L. Duncan really takes the cake in this book in making it original. It is a story of being betrayed by your own "Friends" I would recomend this wonderful story to people who like hanging on until the end for a great wonderful story.
Rating: Summary: A Prank Gone Too Far! Review: This is a scary novel in light of Columbine and other tragedies. A university teacher, tired of the poor students he is receiving, decides that the only way to make a difference is to try to mold them in high school. The only problem is that he is a perfectionist, thinking that super-discipline will mold his students into great college material. He doesn't think for one minute that his methods would work in the military but not with teenagers. The students see Mr. Griffin as a heartless and mean person that will ruin their chance to graduate and get into a good college. Everything seems to come to a head when one student has a homework paper blown away by the wind and tells Mr. Griffen so, saying that he will redo the paper. Mr. Griffen has absolutely no sympathy and he just tells the student that he will not accept a late paper, thus the student will fail. Several members of the class get together and decide that the only way to get Mr. Griffin to change his way is to scare him. To do this, they will kidnap him and only let him go when he is really scarred. Unfortunately nothing goes as planned. Mr. Griffin is not scarred and maybe not such a bad guy after all. The students carry the prank on too long and unfortunately Mr. Griffin dies. They now have to deal with what they did and realize too late that it wasn't a good idea. This book should be read by young teens to make them think about their actions before they do it. A lot of hazings and other things that teens may think are fun, sometimes have serious consequences. Adults will also enjoy this very well written book!
Rating: Summary: Killing Mr. Griffin-- Did They Kill Him on Purpose.... Review: For our class we had to pick a book and read it by December 1st. I chose to read KILLING MR. GRIFFIN by LOUIS DUNCAN. It is about about an English teacher and some of his students. One of them has been in his class for the second time because he flunked. He keeps saying he wants to kill Mr. Griffin, but dosen't really mean it. Then his friend comes up with an idea to do something to Griffin but everyone, meaning around 5-7 people, are a little skeptical about it. They start coming up with ideas about how they should do whatever they are going to do to Griffin. You are just going to have to read it to find out what happens next. It's and okay book. I thought it would be boring, but it gets kinda interesting once things start happening. You should read about 20-25 pages and then see what you want to do with it. I give it about 3 to 3 and a halfstars. If u are going to read it, enjoy!
