Rating: Summary: Anne Rice does it again with a tantalizing tale of Pandora Review: Anne Rice does it again with a tantalizing tale of the mysterious Pandora. I thought that this delicious novel, although not her best, was great beach reading material... time just flew on the beach. I can't wait for Armand!
Rating: Summary: awsome Review: Pandora is one of the greatest fictional vampire stories I've ever read. The way it's written really makes you think she really is 2,000 years old. Everything in the book is described in great detail, so you see it perfectly if you close your eyes, or taste it, or smell it. It's an exceptional book, and I HIGHLY recomend it.
Rating: Summary: Almost as well thought out as Queen of the Damned Review: The story of this book was short, Pandora states her thoughts until you are halfway through the book. And then she summarizes her life with Marius stating that they quarrled for hundereds of years. Anne Rice is a brillent writer, but she needs more plot to her books, many people enjoy knowing the thoughts of the characters, but Pandora just went on and on...I wish Rice would use some of the characters that we know little about such as Jessie, Marharet, Eric, just to name a few...there are more immortals out there than Lestat.
Rating: Summary: Good, but not necessary Review: With "Interview with the Vampire", Anne Rice showed us that vampires are not only evil killing creatures, they also have feelings. With "The Vampire Lestat" and "The Queen of the Damned", we learned the origin of the vampires. In "Memnoch the Devil", we learned about the creation of the world. "The Tale of the Body Thief" and "Pandora", sadly, do no add any new piece to the puzzle. They're only stories (a not very good one in the case of TBT), period. Of course, I've enjoyed to learn about how Pandora became a vampire, but I think we could expect a little more from a great author such as Anne Rice.
Rating: Summary: Way to go Anne!-a step up from "Memnoch the Devil". Review: I've finished this short novella only recently and I thought it to be a fairly interesting read. It has the same theme as "The Vampire Lestat"-an immortal telling their dark, life story. Pandora wasn't very appealing to me; I didn't like her kind of aggresiveness and she seemed to be snappy in character. I did however take a liking to Flavius. He was captivating from the very start when Pandora begins to give his description after seeing him in the slave market, and latter details that makes him all the more a likeable character. It was a shame though, that he was always referred to terms such as 'loyal servant' by Pandora. I think it took away from his unique character. Another thing-the book concentrated so little on Pandora's and Marius's relationship. I'm rather glad it did. I found Marius to be the most arrogant, cynical, obnoxious character of all Anne's immortal creations. Not only that-he bored me. He was not the least bit interesting. ! But truly and overall this book is ok. It's definitely a vast improvement from Anne's failure "Memnoch the Devil", which in my opinion should have been a stand-alone novel, no, a non-existing novel. This novel like so many of Anne's books, tends to be long-winded. And I mean very long-winded. So it didn't command my attention very well. I did love her descriptions though and her word usage of the several locations Pandora ventured to. Onto the ending. I loved it! It gave a hint that a presumedly past awayed immortal may not be dust and ashes afterall, which would be Armand in this case. Can't wait until Armand comes out! I love that boy :o Angel C.
Rating: Summary: A wonderfully written tale... Review: Very imaginative tale which takes us from Imperial Rome to exotic Antioch and explores the life of the vampire Pandora. Rice blended her character beautifully into this time period and expounded on Marius's story in The Vampire Lestat, answering many questions about this reclusive vampire. Rice so richly weaves the tapestry of ancient Roman life that you feel as if you were there with Pandora on her daring escape from Rome and onto safety in Antioch. This was definately one of her best.
Rating: Summary: Very good Review: After I read the Vampire Chronicals I took a break and read a few books written by other people and went back to read the Mummy and Feast of All Saints. When I heard Pandora was out it was near my birthday, and I got it as a gift. I couldn't put it down. Mostly because a tornado went through town and there wasn't much to do, but it was soooo good. I can't say I liked it better or worse than the original vampire books. I think people are being a little stupid about not liking it because it was different from the first ones. It should be applauded for being a little different, if she wrote the same all the time I probably would say "well, who would have thought" and "this is getting a little boring" and I wouldn't bother reading her other works. When I first started reading it I didn't know what to expect, I was a little bored and waiting for something to happen. But in about the fifth or sixth chapter it started getting good. She built up to ! the good stuff so that we know a bit about the character before she moved on. I thought it was very beautiful. She has good imagery and taste. I recommend this book to any Anne Rice fan, especially if they're looking for something a little different.
Rating: Summary: barely kept my interest Review: as a lover of lestat and the lurid tales of ALL vampyres, I was sourly disapointed. this book that some call fabulous has next to nothing of the lore and passion that the others had. it barely kept my interest and i wasn't sad when i was finished. maybe rice should give it a rest, her audiance is slippng.
Rating: Summary: The True Anne Rice Returns Review: At last Anne Rice has returned from holiday and is again writing the books with her name on the cover. No, I am not terribly impressed with her last two efforts. Servant of the Bones seemed written half by another person and Violin I'm sure was just fulfilling contract obligations and no more. Pandora, however, returns to the classic Rice that transports you to the time about which she writes, and makes you want to be one her characters. I eagerly await The Vampire Armand.
Rating: Summary: sensational..... gripping.... and descriptive Review: i thought the book was really good... she seems to get better every time she writes a book... i loved it...
