Summary: Welcome back, Anne!
Review: After the awful Tale of the Body Thief and the mediocre Memnoch, Rice really rips out a wonderful novel. What a great portrait of an interesting character! This work is as good as LeStat (though it's still no Queen).

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A book that will hook you on like glue!
Review: This was a book that will make you stay up all night long just to finish it. It not only told of Pandora's vampiric begginings, it also had a bit of a history lesson. It explained much of the lives of a typical Roman aristocrate, along with the feelings of the very begginings of the Christian religion. If you like stories of vampires and also into history, this book is for you.

Summary: Anne Rice achieves psychological depth
Review: If you liked the Vampire Chronicles, you'll probably like this book; Why? Because it's just the same, but different. While in "Lestat" and "Interview" the main factor is action, here the main factor is a fine balance between action and psychology; therefore, Pandora is the storyteller, she explains the story of her life to us, a life spent in the Ancient Rome. If you like Anne Rice's stories and also psychological books, you won't be disappointed! And although "Lestat" took also this viewpoint, "Pandora" is the book where Rice dares to really strip a vamp. This is your first opportunity to know the complexity of one of the most "human" vampires from within. Buy it!

Summary: A Thrilling Character Study...
Review: Anne Rice does not so much describe vampiric life in this book as describe the daily life of a traditional Roman woman. Only the last quarter of the book has Pandora as a vampire; the rest of the tale is a delight to anyone who has loved I, Claudius or history in general. The characters are also wonderfully drawn and refreshingly unpredictable. In Rice's earlier novels, the reader could almost always know what would happen to the protagonist; here, all is a surprise. I heartily recommend this book.

Summary: DRIBBLE!!
Review: Ever heard the term "stream of consciousness"? Basically, it means the author started writing whatever came to mind and just kept on writing - no rhyme or reason to any of it. Well, that's how I would describe Pandora. I was thoroughly disappointed. I can only hope that this book was a necessary intro to more to come. Maybe it's one of those books you have to read twice to understand - I don't know. I DO know that I didn't like it the first go round. Rice's last couple of books seemed like an attempt to fulfill a contract and sadly, this one is in the same category. I expected a LOT better.

Summary: This book is terrible...
Review: Again I'm dissappointed with an Anne Rice novel. The first vampire chronicles were fabulous, I couldn't put them down and have never tired of reading them. Pandora, on the other hand, really was a waste of money. I kept reading to the end just in hopes of finding a really good part. The good part was actually finishing the book, never to pick it up again. The history was incredibly boring. This was one of Anne's worst yet.

Summary: waste of time
Review: i can no longer waste my time reading anne rice...was this book even edited? instead of getting better, her prose (if you can call it that) just gets worse -- now she can barely write a complete sentance. i did enjoy interview and the previous vampire books, but this seems to be her failed effort to get back on the bestseller list with another vampire series...please spare me! i tried to read the last revival of lestat (memnoch?) but couldnt get past him sucking on a used kotex..yeech! the cover is nice, however...i give it one star (there is nothing less)

Summary: A great lead-in to "The Vampire Armand".
Review: After two non-vampire novels from Rice, which were a bit disappointing in my opinion, Anne returns to her most famous world, and delivers one terrific read. Pandora's story is important, and exciting, but the best part of this book is that its final pages set up Book Six of The Vampire Chronicles: "The Vampire Armand", which will be published in October 1998.

Summary: I found it very entertaining..and a good start to the series
Review: I was kind of weary of readingthis after I read some of the reviews...and after I read Violin..which I still have not finished...but I must say I enjoyedthis book.

I found Pandora to be very interesting..and not at all what I thought her to be..she wasen't the usual angst filled....woe is me Vampire that brooded for centuries(ala Louis..but I love him..they say pain is beautiful..well it certinaly was the case in Louis). She was just a woman..who found herself in the mist of an incredible saga.

I loved the refernces to history..and anything that further explains Akasha..and Enkil is good to me.....I loved hearing more about Akasha..and the myths surrounding her.

Her relationship with Marius was comical....and very sweet IMO.. although I think Anne should have told us more about thier lives together.....she spent too much time telling us about Pandora before she finally got to the part when she recivedthe "Dark Gift"..that was one of my complaints. Another was.....I want to know what happened to Flavius he was very interesting..and I think Anne overlooked him a bit to much..he wouls make an interesting tale himself.

Over all..I think it was a great beginning to the new chronicals..and I can't wait for Armand..who I just adore(next to Louis..and Lestat..maybe even more than Lestat)....

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: manages to make a fascinating time period boring
Review: I haven't read much Ann Rice and judging from this book I haven't missed anything. I slogged through half of it before giving up in ennui. Some of her insights and narrative devices were interesting, but it was all bogged down in leaden prose.
