Summary: Classic Anne Rice!!
Review: This is a great book, destined for classic status! A MUST read

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: really really boring!!!!!!!
Review: now, i don't want to say this novel is bad but...well...i can't think of a word to finish that sentence! Ms. rice is obviously pumping a dry well, and if she doesn't get out of new orleans soon to try to go into the world and get some real inspiration for writing, then she might as well close up shop.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: I couldn't get past the first chapter.
Review: Sorry Ms. Rice, but i couldn't. It seemed too paranoid. I also had the same problem with Violin. It's like you lost it for the first chapter and therefore, i lost interest.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Excellent Read! I Couldn't Put It Down!
Review: "Pandora" is an amazing story, amazingly written. I was very impressed, not only by the characters, but by how in-depth the whole story was with what was going on in the society around Pandora. I particularly loved the mysterious character of Marius, Pandora's sire and lover. If you enjoy reading of the past (and of vampires, of course), I suggest you read this novel.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good story with an anticlimactic ending
Review: I truly enjoyed reading the body of the story and discovering how Pandora was made into a vampire. I was very disappointed after Pandora became a vampire. There didn't seem to be much story left but the majority of the book is concerned with ancient history. Was Pandora's life really that boring once she became a vampire. If so,why write an entire book about her? If you like ancient Roman history than this is an interesting novel. It is not a classic Anne Rice novel, however.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: More Human History than Vampiric, but an interesting read
Review: Anyone who's ever worshipped a goddess should be offended by this novel. Her portrayal of the goddess Isis wouldn't seem quite so insulting if she didn't come right out and say it was all absurd nonsense. I don't think her comments about Christianity were ever this insulting, not even in Memnoch. She portrays worshippers of Isis as spoiled rich women and prostitutes who like to dress up in Egyptian garb and paint their faces.

But when I remove myself from the insults to the worship of the Goddess, It was a truly fascinating book about the pre-christian Roman Empire. It provides a great view of the lifestyle. One of the things I love about Rice's style of writing is that she takes the most interesting parts of history and blends them with charismatic and intriguing characters. This book has that part down. At the end of the book, I found myself hoping that somewhere down the line, Flavius would come back into the story. ANNE RICE - IF YOU'RE READING... whatever happened to Flavius?

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: I'm disappointed.
Review: Pandora is extremely introspective past the point of interest. I used to love the plots and action scenes in all of her other novels except Violin but in Pandora all the action is mental and tends to get boring. The dream sequences repeat over and over and seem like fill. The effect is like reading tapes of visits to a shrink. I guess that I think the plot is rated much lower than introspection. I did not enjoy this book.

Summary: This was one of the best vampire novels that Anne Rice wrote
Review: For one thing, you can tell that Anne Rice did her research with the detail of what everyday life was like for a reputable young woman in Augustus' hey day. There is also the use of mythology and deities that is refreshing to see because it is correct. But with Pandora growing up as a very head strong young woman, you can see that she would almost never be dictated by a man. It was a big surprise that she was basically a slave to the Asian vampire when she saw Marius after he escaped from the Children of Darkness in Venice. No one could ever forget how Rice depicted Pandora's victory over her youngest mortal brother. All in all, This is avery good novel.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: it's not her best nor her worst effort....
Review: I am surprised that she came out with a book about Pandora. Although she proves an interesting character, the book often stalls in places. Her devotion to detail actually becomes tiresome in this work...I was surprised. It continues, if ever so incrementally, the tales of the chronicles, but I too await a return to the Rice of earlier times....but is that possible given the pressure she's probably under to continue to publish?

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Good start but fades
Review: I was glad to get back to the vampire world. David asks Pandora to tell her story and she spends the first 75% of the book telling us about her life up until she became a vampire. That covered 20+ years. She then covers the next 2000 years in 25% of the book. The retelling of her life as a vampire seemed rushed and lacking in the kind of detail that Rice employs in the pre-vampire days.
