Summary: 'Pandora' reigns
Review: Anne Rice does it again. Unlike her previous work 'Violin', which was a mess, 'Pandora' brings her back to what she does best: weaving a tale of dark love, intelligence and history. Never have I come across a writer who can fantastically combine lilting prose with historical accuracy, which is essential to the story here, as Pandora grows within the civil and political upheaval in Rome. This is also Rice's first novel told from the point-of-view of a female vampire, and it's just great.

Summary: just short of satisfying
Review: Don't read this book unless you're prepared to wade through quite of bit of Ancient Rome's history. I don't see why there is so much of it, it pushed the story out of the way. At times it got so political that the dialogue started going way over my head and I began to think that I might be stupid. Also near the ending Pandora is trying to explain why she and Marius separated. They kept arguing about something, something philosophical I think. I was confused. Pandora is narrating the story of her life for David Talbot. It starts when she is very young and she goes through a lot of bad times with her family being murdered, brother turned bad apple etc. All this is set in ancient Rome. there were a few good bits where the prose was quite enjoyable. The ending was OK. Personally I don't like the way Rice potrays female characters, they are just never feminine enough, I mean real femininity, not flowers and pink things. they always want to be men, why? "Pandora" might not embarrass the other proud Chronicles but it might annoy them.

Summary: Anne Rice's going down the hill...
Review: After writing THE WITCHING HOUR, Anne Rice lost track of her own writing. It would be better if she were aware of what she's doing: going down the precipice. PANDORA is the best example of that. Boring, boring, boring. Anne Rice didn't need to do such an horrible thing. Terrible book. Terrible. Wish I could give it zero stars.

Summary: I can't give her just one star because I love her so much
Review: I love Anne Rice, I mean LOVE her stories! However, this one was well....bad. Actually, it put me to sleep (and I am an insomniac). I couldn't find any story in it. It was pretty words but no depth. It was telling us something we already know. The worst part was being too long winded. I know, she is long winded anyway, but it usually pays off. This one didn't. I read Memnoch and was disappointed there too (though not as bad as Pandora) and Violin was awful. Please please please, Ms. Rice....write like you used to! Your books (the old ones) are what made me want to be a writer! Please!

Summary: She does it again!
Review: Anne Rice's vibrant mind has taken control of the world of the vampires once again. In this novel she unleashes an incredible character by the name of Pandora to the chronicles in fuller detail. Anne Rice did what she does best and sharply intertwined great writing, with a great story with great history. Her ability to take fascinating history into the plot of her story is phenominal and it seems that no one can compare.

It's a great story, told in a new fresh voice. Not to mention it is the first vampire novel to be told from a woman's point of view. Pick it up and enjoy it. It's a great read.

Summary: Not her worst yet not her best either.
Review: What can I say about this book? Well it wasnt awful or mind numbing like Vittorio. But it wasnt fantastic or incredible like Armand either. Read it if your in the mood for some Annes gabbling but if you dont it wont make much of a difference, its just Anne trying to make a pretty mediocer character interesting and not really succeeding.I really wish she would shine the spotlight on Marius for a change. Why does she constantly make him a supporting charater or even worst, just plain ignore him all together? She made him up for Gods sake why cant she see his potential?

Summary: wonderfully entertaining
Review: I thought this book was exellent. Anne Rice is a great author and this book is just another one of her triumphs. I thought the backround of the ancient romans was the highlight of the book. However I would have love to have seen Rice take her character further through history in more depth. That would be AMAZING.

Summary: Magnificent work, although not as in depth
Review: I love Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles and very much enjoyed this chapter. However, I did find it lacking in detail and depth, contrary to her previous novels. It failed to answer a number of questions brought up previously, particularly in The Vampire Lestat. Still, a wonderful book.

Summary: Vampire lover
Review: This book was on that once started you just can not put it down. the story takes you through her life in Rome and then her flight seeing her family killed. How she was a woman ahead of her time. the love of her life and the troubles they had. And how they came together once again years later. All said and done this is just another of Anne Rice has once more out done her self.

Summary: Bring your No-Doz
Review: In all fairness, I didn't finish this book. I got about halfway through it. But I just couldn't take it anymore! I loved Anne's Vampire Chronicles and Sleeping Beauty trilogy, but this new series needs a lot of work. She has always been very wordy but here her words are pointless and, well, sleep-inducing.zzzzzz. Please save your time and stick to the Vampire Chronicles-- you'll thank me later.
