Rating: Summary: Sick and twisted............ Review: .....I loved it. The Bad Place was recommended by a friend, and it seemed to be a good idea. I had read a few of Koontz's other books, and tried it out. The novel was one in a million, and to this day my favorite by Koontz. I've found that I can't make it all the way through some of his books because they drag, but I found The Bad Place a steady paced story. His blend of horror and sci-fi are really key elements to the book, and seem to lace together very well, creating one of the most interesting books by him. I felt a bit dissapointed by aspects of the book, but to me the Bad Place is worth a look.
Rating: Summary: A fast paced novel that will leave you begging for more. Review: The Bad Place is a wonderful novel which combines suspense, mystery and horror into a thrilling book that will keep you on the edge of your seat from cover to cover. This book definetly deserves five stars because of its spectacular descriptions of the characters and their emotions, and the plot which leaves you in a whirlwind of excitement. You haven't read anything until you have read The Bad Place by Dean Koontz.
Rating: Summary: Another classic Review: If a Koontz book like this can't scare you- nothing will!! One of his best in my opinion, The Bad Place is about true evil. Beware if you are reading this before you go to bed. But don't worry- when you finish, there are many other Koontz books to satisfy your appetite! You'll be hooked.
Rating: Summary: Be Afraid... Be VERY Afraid...! Review: Greetings, all. I'm going to assume whoever's reading this is a Koontz fan like me, so I'll make my review short and sweet-if this is a title you haven't read yet-STOP WASTING TIME AND GO TO YOUR BOOKSTORE! This is undoubtedly the pinnacle of koontz's work...this novel is entertaining just out of sheer audacity alone. the ending is a real kicker! the only reason I didn't rate the book a 10 is because some aspects of it are derivitive of (who else?) Stephen King's The Shining (use of phrases the bad place and the bad thing, and of course Thomas's psychic powers).
Rating: Summary: One of his best... Review: Being a big Koontz fan, I found this novel to be a top three favorite...it was thoroughly captivating...the characters are very well developed (a Koontz standard)...the pace is steady, the storyline unusual and fascinating. Along with the usual Koontz mix is an extra poignancy because of Thomas, who has Down's Syndrome. Treat yourself and read this novel.
Rating: Summary: One of Koontz's best Review: A husband and wife private detective team are hired to check into the history of a amnesiac with a huge problem. It turns out that his family, especially his brother, is after him. I would say more, but all the revelations all come out in the end, and that would be telling, wouldn't it. I liked this book a lot, it is one of Koontz's best. It is, however, one of his darkest ever. I recomend this to any fan of Dean Koontz, horror, or any good literature.
Rating: Summary: Keeps You Guessing Review: This novel has many of the standard elements of Koontz's work: heroes to root for, villains who are truly menacing, and a cathartic climax. In 'The Bad Place', we have something more as well: a world where the heroes don't always live through the story, and even the innocent and sympathetic suffer. The plot deals with the owners of the Dakota & Dakota detective agency -- Bobby and Julie -- who come across a very interesting client: Frank Pollard, who has loads of money but no memory. As the Dakotas investigate who Pollard really is, we are introduced to Thomas, Julie's brother with Down's Syndrome. Thomas becomes the catalytic character in the story, and his 'visions' of the villain and Julie become truly prophetic, and although the visions lead to 'Mr. Blue', as the villain is known, a terrible price is paid by several of the 'good' guys and their loved ones. There is extensive descriptive violence in several segments of the book, and the eventual explanation of who -- and what -- Pollard is takes the world of the novel in an incredible direction that sets the mind reeling. I liked the unexpected twists in the novel, and the fact that not everyone received a 'happy' ending; however, there is not a lot uplifting in this book, unlike some of Koontz's later work.
Rating: Summary: Give Me All Your Diamonds Review: This was the best and most fast moving book I've ever read. Koontz takes you there. I felt like I was actually traveling with the characters. I felt like I was on a Volcano and every other place he takes you to. I've read it five times (just finished the fifth time) and I'm still wanting some red diamonds.
Rating: Summary: Good but a little too Far Out for Me Review: I gave this book 4 stars, but the truth is I really didn't enjoy it all that much. It's beautifully written and the plot is clever and holds together well. The problem for me is that I just don't enjoy the supernatural. I had previously read "Icebound" by Koontz and really liked it (nothing supernatural there). I then picked up "The Bad Place" assuming it was a mystery/thriller. The first few chapters blew me away - I just couldn't wait to understand what was going on with this strange character Frank: unexplained disappearances superimposed on long-term amnesia, showing up with gobs of money and priceless jewels, etc. But when it became obvious that the explanation was supernatural I just felt so deflated - again, just not my kind of book. For those of you who do enjoy the supernatural then I think this would be a great book. For anyone looking for a suspensful story without the supernatural stuff you might want to try my book, "The Other Part Of Me."
Rating: Summary: A place where evil is beyond bad Review: The scariest of all, in my opinion. I loved it, and I've read so many other authors, but Dean Koontz has a knack no one can compare. After this, I thought, I wonder what kind of dreams does he have at night? One thing I found that separates him from other Horror writers, is that they're not all horror, but humor, suspense included, and they're context are topics which can really happen. Many we've seen today. People of having paranormal ability; those who channel it for good and those who channel it evil of unbelievable levels. When you read it, you'll find the answer to many of your questions. Yes, it can happen, evil is everywhere among us. This just sheds light on matters we never thought about.
