Rating: Summary: nightmares will follow you after reading this book. Review: I read this book in 3 days. i could not put it down. This is definitely a new direction for Steven King. I was absolutely lost in the story line. This is my all time favorite Steven King novel, next to Desperation.
Rating: Summary: A refreshing tack from a seasoned hand Review: As a writer, I naturally identified with the protagonist ... especially about the writer's block. The story clips along...not as surely as it could, perhaps...but certainly enough to keep my interest. Here's my compound report card for it:Plot Grade: (B) -- Pretty good, even if somewhat forced and contrived. Prose Grade:(A) / King slings words, phrases and concepts like the master he is. Characters Grade: (A-) A protagonist worthy of empathy; a believably sensible young widow; a gutsy ghost who does what she must to help her living husband; an angry, outraged spirit out for vengance; and a host of wry Mainers who certainly seem a lot like the people I know up there. The only flaws are the little girl -- rather a cardboard kid....and the villians, who hardly seem up to their sinister ambitions (wimps!). A good read overall. King fans will take delight in the change of tone and perspective. Others may enjoy a good read. Critics will...well, continue to jealously carp about King. (let em.)
Rating: Summary: One of King's best... Gripping.. Realistic... Review: This book was fantastic. King writes a story that is bone chilling without having to be gory or overly wierd. I found the tragedy of the story to be equally gripping as the haunting overtones that are held throughout the book. The characters are very believable. I couldn't put this book down. One of Stephen King's best books to date.
Rating: Summary: Loved it. But the book's a bit baggy in more than one sense. Review: Look: I loved this book, it kept me reading and there were points when I was annoyed about having to work and stuff. But sorry I do think it is way too long for its story, almost like a huge dress on a thin woman. A friend from England sent me another book, SOMETHING DANGEROUS by a guy called Redmond which will be published this fall here, cos that company also publishes King there. Anyway, I thought that this guy Redmond was sorta a new King i.e. he was writing like King did when he started. But I love you're books, Steven, they're great and I hope you soon feel better enough to start writing again. You're a star. What about some mroe GREEN MILE'ing?
Rating: Summary: This one grabs you! Review: I have to admit that I don't read a great deal of Stephen King's books. I tend to not sleep well while under the influence of a S.K. horror tale. BAG OF BONES is the exception. This is a great tale of love, revenge, a dose of lust and lot's of great ghosties!!!! King's main character is strong and you will root for him till the end. His ghosties are even likable....well to a point. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: One of his finest Review: I rarely stray from historical fiction, I prefer titles like "The Triumph and the Glory" and "The Killer Angels" to horror fiction, but I'd heard that this Stephen King book was different from his usual fare so gave it a try. IT WAS GREAT! Touching, deeply compelling, a love story (if you can believe it) from the master of terror and evil unleashed upon the innocent and unwary. Very well done, Mr. King.
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put this one down! Review: I thought Bag of Bones was the best book I had read in years. I stayed up hours later than I had intended on many a night because I didn't want to put it down. It was one of those rare books that you don't want to see end so badly that you ration yourself towards the end to make it last longer!
Rating: Summary: Surpassed my expectations Review: When I saw "Bag of Bones" in hardback, I knew I had to buy it, but FIRST I always read the jacket flaps to see what it is about. The summary really didn't impress me at all, and when I read the catch phrase on the back, 'A Haunted Love Tale', I decided to look the book up on the computer. SO I found out that it was sort of based on the novel "Rebecca" which I hated! Well to make a long story short, I got the book in paperback, read it, and was mesmerized. This book is exactly what the catch phrase said 'A Haunted Love Tale' and a good 'Haunted Love Tale'. "Bag of Bones" is mixed with humor, suspense, LEGAL suspense (!), romance, and of course horror. I thought this was a wonderful book that anyone who likes the above should read.
Rating: Summary: Very good literature Review: Bag of Bones is an excellant book (in my opinion) it is sad and compassionate and has a bit of twisted humor that I enjoyed. The characters were easy to relate to and were realistic. It got kind of hard to understand towards the end, but other than that it is one of King's finests works!!! I think it would also make a good movie.
Rating: Summary: A HIGHLY recommened must-read! Review: This book was one of the best books I ever read. I was surprised at the emotion Bag of Bones had in it. It was swamped from the very first page with grief at the death of the main characters wife, and it took off from there. I was laughing, crying, and fuming as I read this book.It was suspensful (and scary, of course), and just when I would think I knew how it was going to turn out, Stephen King gives a major twist to the story, or a surprising outcome of an event. This is one of the best books out there. I highly recommend it if you're looking for sleepless nights and a pleasant story for your mind.
