Rating: Summary: FUNNY! Review: This book is well written and extremely funny. I am looking forward to reading other books by Christopher Moore.
Rating: Summary: This book had me in tears! Review: This book was the first Christopher Moore book I've read and I truly enjoyed it. The characters were quirky and well thought out. The ending left something to be desired but the rest of the book totally makes up for it.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: I have never been a fan of dark, "serious" vampire novels. That said, this has got to be one of the best books I've read in a long, long time. It's a quick read that doesn't take itself too seriously... although living in San Francisco makes me wonder if maybe I've met these characters before. The vivid language and descriptive scenes made me feel like I was watching a Tim Burton or David Lynch movie. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone!
Rating: Summary: Refreshing Review: I bought this book because I like vampire books and I was just looking to take a break from my seriously written Anne Rice books. I'll just say that, people were looking at me kinda weird on the subway when I'd start laughing out loud every few minutes!
Rating: Summary: A refreshing and enjoyable book. Loved the Animals! Review: I have never read anything by Christopher Moore before but will now. I found this book to be very fun and it kept me interested. Kudos to Mr. Moore.
Rating: Summary: Witty and offbeat---the supernatural meets social satire. Review: A truly funny and unassuming book. Chris Moore mocks society while presenting a fun premise and charming characters. How does a vampire get her laundry done? How does she deal with the guy who made her a vampire? And is immortality and godlike powers worth giving up french fries for eternity? Clever (and sometimes sensuous) descriptions, a mob of idiosyncratic characters, and a respect both for the darkness and the humor in the story make it a fun read. Not some masterpiece: but it doesn't want to be.
Rating: Summary: Not as funny as expected. Review: Perhaps my expectations were inflated due to all the 4 and 5 star ratings this book received here, but I did not find myself laughing that much at all - only three times to be exact. The characters were too stereotypical to be funny. The Emperor is a fixture in any big city, naming the Animals the Animals was not very creative nor were their late night antics, which reminded me of lame high school movies. Tommy, the lead character was at times endearing. However, the naive young writer as hero is hackneyed character. The five Wongs were funny in their limited appearance. But, electing not to incorporate the five Wongs into more of the story, the author missed many chances for more laughs. A comparison of Christpoher Moore and Dougals Adams in terms of style is fair but any qualitative comparisons is unfair to Douglas Adams. I was looking forward to reading more from this author after reading all the glowing reviews his books have received on Amazon, but now I am having second thoughts.
Rating: Summary: Very funny novel with some flaws Review: Like an earlier novel by Moore that I read, COYOTE BLUE, this one will stimulate a loud laugh on every page. If I have one complaint about it, it is that it's over-researched... you can almost hear Moore pull out the index card every few pages, and say... 'it's time now to do women's magazines.' 'Now it's time to do night crews at supermarkets.' And so on. Also, in both COYOTE BLUE and BLOODSUCKING FIENDS, he seems to have problems with endings. But, hell, CB was only his 2nd novel! His situations are so funny and his observations so cruelly sharp that you'll keep reading, even if things annoy you... such as the hero of BF suddenly apparently dropping about 75 IQ points just so his idiocy can stir up the plot.
Rating: Summary: Dreadfully witty vampire romance Review: I averaged better than one laugh out loud per page, so I'll submit my first online review ever and strongly suggest you pick this one up. Expect to finish it as fast as you can make time. Reluctant vampire meets laid-back country boy in SF, mockery ensues.
Rating: Summary: THE best vampire story Review: Probably the most "realistic" and hilarious vampire story I ever read. Other books just focus on flash and sex, but this one asks the serious question facing every neophyte vampire when they wake up to their new life. " If I can't go out in the sunlight, how can I pick up my check from work?" Often hilarious, sometimes profound, BloodSucking Fiends demystifies the vampire legend for a fresh, novel take on vampire life, women's magazines, and the nightshift at a supermarket. Just the scene alone where the beautiful vampire protagonist ends up in a "Vampires Anonymous Meeting" is well worth the price of the book.
