Rating: Summary: CLASSIC KING!!! Review: "Desperation", is a great treat to get from good 'ol Steve, after many more "realistic" stories. I loved "The Green Mile", but always like when King goes back to his true form, out and out, horror. "Rose Madder" was the last book that excited me the way that "Desperation" did. A cast of characters worthy of "IT" and "The Stand" and enough wolves, rats, and snakes and other creep-crawlies to leave you squirming in your seat. Bizarre villains, and an ancient legend worthy of Tolkein and, more importantly, King's old style! I loved this book, couldn't put it down . That's whay King fans want, a novel you just can't put down for a week, and "Desperation" really delivers in that category!!
Rating: Summary: over-padding of a good basic story for no damn good reason. Review: Desperation became an act of desperation in that finishing it became a matter of achieving personal best...i read it, i really did, i really, really did it
Rating: Summary: Terrifying with a climax Review: The story starts in an only too real setting, driving trough Nevada on the U.S.50. There they are stopped by a cop, except it's not just a cop anymore... The early chapters detail the effect of the encounter for each of the persons. I could not wait to read the next chapter (normal reaction when I'm submitted to Stephen King material). The last chapters, the story was maybe a bit too bloody / weird. By keeping the bad guy a bit more realistic it would have been even more scary.A book one should read as a King fan, if you have no caridac problems
Rating: Summary: This book is one of King's best works Review: Desparation is one of the best King books I've read, its right up there with Insomnia, Tommyknockers and The Green Mile. Stephen King knows how to write for perfection. If only there were more writers out there like him. This book has so much symobolism that you have to read it carefully to get the true meaning of every line. It is definetely a book I will read more than once
Rating: Summary: One of Stephen King's MOST-TWISTED-CANNOT-PUT-IT-DOWN Books! Review: One often wonders why every one of Stephen King's books is critically acclaimed as "THE BEST SO FAR....STEPHEN KING HAS EXCELLED HIMSELF THIS TIME". When I picked up his latest work of macabre, I knew that the critics would not allow this one to be ..."just another Stephen King book...not really that good etc." I was not surprised...
Then I began to read the book and the strange phenomenon began. I read the first couple of pages and before I knew it I had almost finished the book...non-stop! If there ever be an Ultimate Page Turner, this has to be the one. Desperation creates an environment of total and complete evil, quite unlike any of his previous efforts. It picks up almost immediately and has lots of 'Black Humor'. To explain, Stephen King very cleverly uses his characters to convey a sense utter hilarity , even when the situation is of complete Desperation and total hopelessness. It happens to all of us...when we are faced with an extremely strange and serious situation, we sometimes think the weirdest and most stupid thoughts that turn out to be ridiculously (and morbidly) funny. Finally theres a touch of Freud in this book (not unlike other King novels). Plenty of God too. A classic story of Good vs. Evil, Stephen King style.
Conclusion....Right up there with The Dark Half....BUY it!
Rating: Summary: This is a "I simply can't put it down" book!! Review: Stephen King finally put out a book which is almost as good as "It". Unfortunately, Desperation is much too short. I didn't want it to end. It is written only as King can do....so unreal as seeming to be real, horrifying, and with a rich cast of characters and events surrounding the reader as if you were there. This is not just another King book for his fans to read....this is an excellent book that must be read by everyone!
Rating: Summary: I started it, that's why I am on this site! Review: I started this book and absolutely couldn't put it down, I had checked it out of the library. But then one of my family members returned it so now that I found this site, I am really excited to finish it.
I loved the sign that read something about the: *~Snapple drinkin', Bible readin', Clinton Bashin' son of a bitch never mind the dog, beware of the owner~*
The book was moving from the begining and very uniquely written, I hope I receive it soon!
Rating: Summary: Slow start, but great finish! Review: I read the first 50 pages, then it sat on the shelf for a month or more. I picked it back up (out of boredom) and discovered that shortly thereafter it was difficult to put down! This book is like an onion - the plot peels off in layers as you go through it. If you find yourself having a hard time with Desperation, stick with it - the end is worth the effort!!
Rating: Summary: Classic King, keeping you in suspense until the last page. Review: Desperation is another in the long line of Stephen King greats. King delves into the world of the supernatural, exposing the powers that lurk within. Unlike some of King's other works, I couldn't get myself to put the book down. Somewhat like Pet Semetary and Carrie in the fact that King allows for a slightly less realistic plot in order to further one's own fear of the unknown. Although Desperation won't cause me to enjoy sleepless nights of terror, the idea of an all-consuming, irrestible force from the dark side is very tempting. I rate Desperation an 8 on a scale of one to ten. Not a nine, because I feel true terror is accomplished with more realistic plots. At least an eight because it kept me interested through nearly 700 pages, not once making me wish it could be any shorter
Rating: Summary: KINGS BEST BOOK YET!!!!! Review: Awesome book!
King is a great writer;and this is one of his best!
