Summary: King back on track but still missing his past glories.
Review: I'm a huge fan of every single King book up to "The Dark Half", when it became painfully apparent that he'd lost his former creative powers. But "Desperation" is definately the best King book I've read in a quite awhile.

It starts off in great King style - a slow build-up where things get creepier and creepier until an exposion of violence sweeps you along. The characters are fleshed-out and believable, and the book contains the same jumps between flashback and present time that made 'It" such an enjoyable read. And, as in the very best of King's works, you really can't be sure who's going to survive...even totally established characters are not protected from the knife.

So if you're a former King fan and have left the rocky path of his career, come on back to the fold. You won't be sorry...except for perhaps the sleep you'll lose

Summary: King is the master!
Review: I read this book and I loved it!! It was gripping right from start to finish. The characters were defined well and the plot was well thought out. I love the way the book is set up. By having each story of "abduction" told separatly then all of them meeting, it gave good contrast between the individual situations. I think that everyone should stop comparing it to "The Stand". "The Stand" was a very good book but "Desperation" is an entirerly different book. I'm sure Stephen King doesn't wasn't every book to be identical Readers should read the book with an open mind and try not to look for a comparison. Read the book and except it for what it is... A literary masterpiece of horror!!

Sending forth fear with each stoke of his pen.

Evil lurks in the depths of Desperation
As seven await a boy's salvation.

A wicked cop with blood for tears
Is the source of these seven's fears.

The cop, however, is just a pawn,
Tak, his master, hales from Satan's spawn.

Will Evil win or will Good prevail?
That is why YOU must read this tale.

Summary: Intense.
Review: One of King's best novels. I couldn't put it down. However, inconsistencies abound and although they do not detract from itsentertainment value, they are quite annoying.

Summary: Intense. A very different King novel.
Review: This book kept me riveted. Desperation is an intense tripthrough the supernatural. However, the action was a little tooslow-paced. King told the story through several points of view and so a great deal of the pages were devoted to telling the story from these individual perspectives. It also seemed far too convenient to make Tak such a weak enemy. Too much of the book seemed to be devoted to unnecessary details. I've read most of Stephen King's novels and short stories and I must say that Desperation ranks in the top 3.

Summary: This book was glued to my hands,,it keeps u on the edge
Review: Desperation was by far the best book Stephen King has written. I loved Pet Cemetary, and Cujo, but this one tops them all! I picked it up and had to pry it from my hands. I really keeps u on the edge of your seat the whole time. A couple of times I found myself talking out loud, like the characters could actually hear me. The way the characters are portrayed, makes u care for them. That makes the book even better, when u can feel the characters fear. Overall, the book is wonderful, and exhilarating. I would say it is a success, or at least in my eyes. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a up to the minute thriller

Summary: Good Book but a little to long.
Review: It was a good book, although a little to long. It was kind of eerie, and some of the things that happened were morbid. I always like a story where the weaker characters beat out the stronger characters

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Should be called "Depression"
Review: In my opinion, this book is a bit below average for StephenKing. It reminded me of his short story "Rage" in itsfeeling. None of the characters were particularly likeable, which is unusual for a King novel. I'm interested to see what "The Regulators" is like - King's pseudonym always seemed darker to me, but "Desperation" was so black I wonder if he's switched personas with Bachman?
