Rating: Summary: A horrifying ride of suspense and chaos that chills. Review: This noval was greatly written with the colorful adjectives of sounds smells and the touch of something out of the ordinary. I give this grip taking thriller two thumbs up. Not only did it give me nightmare's of the sheriff but I never want to go driving through Nevada. Especially if I come to a town really called Desperation. Over all it was a great and scary story.
Rating: Summary: Don't miss this Desperation! Review: Desperation is possibly the best book I have ever read. Stephen King is amazing in the way he develops multi-character plots. King is always very creative with his characters. I will never forget David Carver or Collie Entragen.
Rating: Summary: Horrifically suspensful! Review: From the moment you become deserted on that highway and thrust into the murderous town of Desperation along with the characters, you feel trapped, having no faith you will ever survive. How can you survive such a horrible nightmare? Why is this happening? In classic Stephen King form, her manages to create a new entity that brings on this terror and suspense, literally destroying a town. This novel was hard to put down once I started the first chapter. Each page is a nail-biter, wondering what's in store for each character as the story progresses. In the same suspense that was found in IT, Desperation brings out that same terror and surprise that has you "pulled in" and wanting more, yet feeding enough fear to not want to give in to it. Definately one of Stephen King's best novels since IT terrorized the best-sellers list in 1987.
Rating: Summary: A look into the religious side of Stephen King Review: Written in the tradition of The Stand, this is definitely Stephen King's best to this day. A landmark in literature. Desperation, above all, was a terrific success. Although many people (including myself) were upset by what Mr King said about God through out the novel--God is cruel--I think this novel really makes you sit back and think 'what exactly is this?' 'why is King writing about God?' Sure, this it's not 'average-Mr. King' but it's sure a great novel for the ages. The novel, I found, was very surreal towards the end, almost like The Stand, but not quite as long. I also noticed that Stephen King couldn't decide whether the animal that kept coming back to attack them (or should I say Tak?) was a coyote, cougar, or wolf. Mr. King displayed supernatural horror plain and simple--and majestic. WARNING: You won't be able to put this novel down, it's relentlessly paced. And another warning: watch out for the ending. Expect very unusual stuff to start happening at around page 510.
Rating: Summary: Desperation: The BEST book I've ever read! Review: I usually don't like to read books much because I lose intrest, but from the first time I opened the book, I couldn't put it down! It was very exciting and was close to the story of "The Stand". I have also read "The Regulators", but it wasn't nearly as good as "Desperation". It's worth the money and the time!
Rating: Summary: One of his best ever Review: Even though I had college homework I read this book everynight. Once you start reading this one you can't put it down. Another one of his great stories. If you like this try Rose Madder!
Rating: Summary: A Stunning Look at Modern Spirituality and Religion Review: Even though many readers will continue to pidgeonhole Stephen King as simply a writer of horror books, King's dedicated readers have known for years that he truly writes some of the most interesting and well written novels of our times. Through the conventions of horror, fantasy, and popular fiction, Stephen King's thoughtful and introspective novels artfully offer the reader a satisfying and challenging look at tough and often controversial subjects. In "Desperation", he proves that he is at the top of his form. Set against the backdrop of a desert town that has been overrun by an evil presence and a lot of scary insects, King presents a beautifully written exploration of God and modern religion that probes a complicated topic with compassion and understanding. Admirable, King never forces an opinion, be it for or against organized religion, down the reader's throat, but instead allows for the reader to process what he or she is being offered and make his/her own conclusions. Truly one of King's best, this brilliant novel is nothing short of a masterpiece.
Rating: Summary: Mostly for die hard fans Review: Stephen King's novel "Desperation" won't let any old fans down. The beginning is pure and clean horror which is Mr King's trademark (there's not a doubt in this world that the enormous cop is the evil himself). The violence is gory and not an easy thing to handle for "weak" ones but things get out of hands halfway through the novel. I didn't like the religious tones that you can read between the lines. Everything gets too obviuos when the end is near and the result is that you get a little bit disapponited but you WILL continue...Finally I would like to say to all the people who haven't read anything by Stephen King (probably a very small crowd): If you are about to read something by Mr King, start with "The Shining", "The Stand", "It" or "Cujo".
Rating: Summary: AWESOME Review: this book was great. the plot never dragged. and i actually felt for the characters. some believe King gets slow in his works an maybe he does tend to go off on tangents sometimes but this book is not slow at all. i highly recommend you checkitout, but who the hell am i to tell you what to read.....
Rating: Summary: LAME Review: This book started out with a lot of promise. And then, someone hit the autopilot button and we get a mix of boring, bogus characters who are either fated to be on the side of god, or servants to the evil "Randall Flagg." OH WAIT that was the evil guy in the STAND! Gee, it seems to be the EXACT SAME BOOK with even less reasoning behind the good/evil clash! It even has the same stupid ending the Stand did! *yawn*
