Rating: Summary: One of the very best! Review: I've read most of King's work, and this is by FAR the best of it...the whole God VS a Devil struggle was just so great... five stars, easily!
Rating: Summary: Stephen King does it again! Review: If anyone has ever lived, or even driven on that ever so lonely Highway 50 in Nevada (or even on I80 east of Reno, NV)...this novel REALLY conjures up some thoughts you may never have even dreamed of. Anything can happen when you're out in the middle of the Nevada desert, with no one around for miles and miles and... He's just able to capture the images and "what if" feelings so well. The ending was maybe a bit disappointing but I'm not sure if it was that the entire story seemed so shocking that I was numb by the time I reached the end or if it was really just too far-fetched???
Rating: Summary: I loved this book because of it's characters. Review: This was one of the best books ever. Though I am young, I have read numerous King books and I have to say that this book has wonderful and relatable characters, including a fascinating plot and deep storyline. This book had me scared out of my wits but kept me reading until 3 in the morning.
Rating: Summary: If only there were 6 stars.... Review: This book was my life for two weeks, and I must say that they were very entertaining! I LOVED Desperation. It made me feel good reading a book so thought provoking, with that classic King element of good vs. evil. I truly cared for David, and that young man had my sheer admiration from the moment he was introduced into the story. Desperation has to be one of the best books that I have ever read!!! Faith is a beautiful thing, and Desperation examines it in the heart of a boy, and how his faith affects others. King has outdone himself by writing a beautiful, yet totally gory epic. You totally captured me King. I read the Regulators afterwards, and was letdown, but Desperation is what my standards are measured by. Bravo and keep it up!!!!!
Rating: Summary: It was very thrilling. Review: I love the Stephen King books. I never wanted the book to end. The excitment throughout the entire book was great. I usally get bored reading, but this book kept me on the edge. I hope there is a sequel to this one.
Rating: Summary: Too many pages of pro-American crap Review: In my lifetime, I have enjoyed more than one novel by King, but this one surely doesn't belong to the category. An easy, straight-forward horror story could be very entertaining if the man wouldn't load his storyline with religious righteousness and general pro-American crap. Also the book goes on much too long, given the amount of ideas it includes. In the end, King's black-and-white goody-goodness really started to piss me off. Blah.
Rating: Summary: Good vs. Evil Horror at it's best... Review: Being that I read The Regulators about a year before I began this one I knew who Tak was and what sort of events were going to take place. Be that as it may, this novel is so well-paced that I couldn't put it down for more than 24hrs. before I continued on the nearly 700-page journey through Desperation.Where The Regulators was a Fantasy novel Desperation is pure, supernatural Horror. If you've never read a Stephen King novel before don't plan on getting too much sleep after your through with this one. As I mentioned above, I read The Regulator prior to reading this so I was prepared. This made the first three chapters a bit of a trial. I was so anxious to continue the story of Tak that I was beginning to think the novel might be a bit slow, throughout. However, I did say that it's perfectly paced. The first three chapters were the classic character introduction I've come to expect from King, so by the end of chapter three, while I was still hoping to continue with Tak, I was hooked by the characters, as well. From then on Desperation is about as fast-paced as a 700-page novel can be. Good vs. Evil is one of King's favorite scenarios. It should be obvious to any "constant reader" that he's perfected the formula. Adding a few dozen new twists with each incarnation, it never gets old. So beware: if you pick up this book you won't be able to put it down. However, I would strongly recommend reading The Regulators first... I have a strange way of visualizing novels while I read them and I can't help but think this could make a great film...
Rating: Summary: Outstanding! Review: This is the first book by King I ever read, and it has sparked me to read many others. There is not much I can say about this book except it is one of King's best, if not the best. Also the villian in this book ranks right up there with Flagg(the Stand, Eyes of the Dragon, Dark Tower sereis). Desperation is must read for anyone and everyone, even if you don't like King's work.
Rating: Summary: The middle of nowhere Review: Stephen king dilivers the good in this fast pased dessert horror show. i do believe that this is the finest arrangement of kings dark imagination. punch arter punc Desperation is a heart pounding story of spirts that refuse to rest. I feel like im on reading rainbow but i highly recomend this book to anybody who wants to travel to the darkes space the human (mabey) can go.
Rating: Summary: Stephen King? Are you sure he wrote this? Review: Desperation is probably one of the worst books I have ever read. No character development, bits and pieces of previous books thrown together to create an overblown, overlong tome. Is this revenge as he changed publishers at the end of it?
