Rating: Summary: GOOD AND SCARY, BUT NOT HIS BEST Review: This book was scary, but not the scariest.Good, but not the best.If your looking for a first book to read by Stephen King, do not read this.
Rating: Summary: chilling yet thrilling Review: When I started reading this novel it was a little boring and it took me three attempts to get past the first 150 pages but I was so glad that I didn't give up. The only book I have read in my life that is better is the Stand, and it was a pretty close call. Congratulations Mr King, another masterpiece!
Rating: Summary: Stunning, startling, frantic, unforgetable Review: Although this is only my third book of Mr King I have read (after "Rose Madder" and "Dark Tower IV: Wizzard and Glass"), I am really impressed. First thing which made me addicted to King was movie "The Stand". If ever in my life I will go on American Highway 50 in Nevada around the Austin, I will be really afraid. I like the way the King reveals his characters. If in the beginning Collie Entragian seemed to be a cop who really cares about law, then after killing Mary's husband and after cop's meeting with Johny Marinville, I changed my mind. King knows how to build level of being scared step by step. From now on I will by every book written by Stephen King I see ! I really recommend everybody to READ IT !!! Thank u for attention.
Rating: Summary: Desperate? Scared is more like it! TAK! Review: Two words: Scary book. I now doubt if I'll ever pass through the state of Nevada, and I will certainly start shaking the next time I see a cop like Entragian. This is my third King book (after The Stand and The Regulators), and I must say that I'm highly impressed! This book started off seemingly predictable, but it only took a chapter or so before Peter and Mary Jackson's fears of the local law from Desperation, Nevada started becoming chillingly real. Next, meet the Carver family, your average all-American gang. They too get swept up by Desperation's evil, and soon you will too. To put this book down before finishing it will give you a serious case of insomnia. Get ready everybody, this one's going to be a New Line movie, and I can't wait! As a final point, I'll quote Collie himself: " I'll tell you one thing, Carvers: when you've got a nutty cop on your hands, you've got a situation." He's not kidding!
Rating: Summary: Read anything else by King, but don't read Desperation Review: This book is dreadful. I forced myself to finish it out of pride but if I was a smart person, I would have burned it in a fire after the first chapter. Really, read anything else by King. In fact read "The Stand" twice.
Rating: Summary: A very good book. Review: This was the firdt King-novel i read. I usally don't read much but this book took me only a week to finnish. It's very good of Stephen King to put so many elements in the book that interest's me, as said before i don't read very much. A clear fivestar book.
Rating: Summary: One of the best Review: I think King is one of the best authors , and is at his top notch right at this outstanding book. Seeing the dead cat on the sing and then getting cought by a very creepy officer, for having dope witch is not theres in the first place, they barrowed the car from the man's dope head sister. Read this book for the best thrill ever!
Rating: Summary: Where does he get these ideas? Review: Although this book is as gruesome as anything I've ever read, I had to admit the writing was top-notch. King is certainly a rare talent--so immensely creative. The story is a page turner, the characterization is strong, and everything works well together.
Rating: Summary: Standing ovation, please Review: And I mean it. I've read almost everything King has written, and this stands out as one of the few more literary novels - these include, for those who don't know King, THE STAND, possibly IT, possibly INSOMNIA and MISERY. These books stand out as thought-provoking and genuinely interesting to read. This one tells the tale of David Carver's struggle to keep his faith while he and his companions are under siege in the ghost town of Desperation, where a strange and malevolent force named Tak is consuming the last few inhabitants in its bid to wreak havoc. It is very much a novel about God and how He acts - sometimes mysteriously, sometimes cruelly. The gore is there, but is brushed aside by the mighty sweep of ideas and concepts. DESPERATION is best read before its companion novel, THE REGULATORS, which contains the same characters - and some of the same dialogue - but in a completely different setting. That's DESPERATION. Find it. Buy it. Enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: Collie, the death cop Review: Tak! The words of an innocent at first, but thug-looking cop.Collie Entragian. A crazy cop sweeps a hillbilly, a famous book writer, the Carver family, and Pete and Mary off their feet and into a jail cell. But little do they know, that this cop is not at all what he seems, until they meet the power of Tak.
