Summary: This book had it all!
Review: This is my first Stephen King book that I've ever read (besides Green Mile) and neeedless to say, he lives up to all of his hype. The book began with the story of a deranged cope, and took you all the way through the demonic spirit "Tak" and his ability to conquer anyone and anyting. The hero of the story is a young 11 year old boy, who lets us know that anyone can be a hero. This has made me a Stephen King fanatic and I'm onto my next book, The Shining. He's got it all!

Summary: Many surprises in this book. A MUST READ!!!
Review: In the first half of the book, I was eager to see what was really going on in this Nevada town called Desperation! Once I found that out, then I was eager to find out what was going to be done about it!! And the ending was so bizarre (not in a bad way, but in a thrilling way)! I'll admit that I actually shed a few tears while reading the last few pages!!

King did an excellent job once again! This is a must read for all King fans!

Summary: A bit disappointed
Review: This was not one of King's better books. There were parts that kept me glued to the pages, but overall, I wasn't terribly intrigued. The end was hokie, but I guess that's sometimes expected with horror books.

Summary: boring...
Review: I find it hard to believe that people find anything of value in this book (or most of what King publishes). Skeleton Crew was good as was a few of his earlier books, but James Joyce this guy is not. I suggest that instead of spending time reading endless pages of drivel you take a new look at your college reading assignments.

Summary: An exploration of the boundaries of faith
Review: The thing that gripped me the most in this work was the struggles with faith many characters went through. To me this was a deeply spiritual book. Obviously not a religious text or a Contemporary Christion Fiction Book of the Month, but a mature look at grace and faith in God.

Tak is pure evil. The most profound idea to me was that God can seem cruel in his execution of his divine plan and the level of faith He asks of those intimately involved in the moment of it. It was most inspiring to see the hero struggle deeply with this and still remain faithful.

Kudo's to King!

Summary: Great beginning but King should stick to short stories.
Review: Desperation started out fast and it showed a lot of promise, but halfway through it turned from a horror story into a crazy supernatural yarn. By the time the book starts to drag you've read 350-400 pages so you've sort of feel obligated to finish it. The ending is really lame. It's like King ran out of ideas but had to submit the manuscript to meet a deadline. It you want to read some good Stephen King try The Bachman Books, Different Seasons, or Four Past Midnight. King writes great short stories but his novels are too long and have lousy endings.

Summary: A great first book to read by King!
Review: This was the first book I have read by Stephen King and it was really captivating. I loved the good verses evil motif throughout the story, this is something that I have never been exposed to before and it really made me think. Some of it is disgusting, but hey, I guess that's part of the fun of it!

Summary: Disturbingly realistic in worldview.
Review: Not his scariest book but King has done a wonderful job on Desperation. The characters are interesting though not as deep as some of King's previous works had. With the magic involved in the storyline and the flashbacks timed at all the right moments, this could definitely make a wonderful movie, though I hesitate to say so considering how his other novels were mangled in movie translations. You definitely feel the desert in your head as you read along. The Mad, insane, empty desert. He hits the nail on the head about the mood of such a place and its effect on people. The demon TAK fits right in. Great book, read it.

Summary: He did it again!
Review: Stephen King did it again! Just when I thought he could never write anything that would match "It" and "The Stand"... Boy, was I wrong! "Desperation" is really one of his best books and desrves an Honourable place with the classics: "It", "The Stand", "The Shining", "Pet Sematary" and, yes, "DESPERATION". P.S.A true King's fan shouldn't complain and those who hate King will hate him even more! It's one of his finest ever!
