Rating: Summary: Classic King Review: If you like King's way of ordinary people overcoming extaordinary obstacles, than this (plus The Regulators) is the next great one in line. This book is another mark of how the human soul perseveres against all odds.
Rating: Summary: This book was not up to par. Review: The plot was erratic, characters undeveloped, and the setting was over-emphasized. Overall, I thought that it could use some help.
Rating: Summary: This is one of Stephen Kings good ones. Review: I've read the reviews and want to say that whoever thinks that this book is horrible has no taste. This book is up with his good ones like Insomnia and Needful Things.
Rating: Summary: True Fan's Only Review: Ok, I read some of the reviews ppl gave Mr. King but I have to say those who just read this book and no other book by Mr. King and gave it a bad review need to get a life. Ok, I mean yea every author has their bad novels and trust me this isn't it. If you know king he likes to try different things not just one kind of story idea (horror). His best novel to me is Dolores Claiborne though I hate the movie. Pick up that book. I know he can't impress everyone but those who he can't impress are thick headed snobs.
Rating: Summary: A heart-pounding experience, dueling good against evil Review: Desperation is one of Stephen King's more spiritual novels. The books underlying plot focuses more upon the importance of faith and belief than the struggle between good and evil which the main plot is based upon. Desperation takes us into a small town in Nevada where things have gone awry. An ancient evil being has been accidentally unearthed and released into the town. Forcibly acquiring hosts to house its parasitic existence this animal god, known as Tak, infects a deputy of the town, relentlessly slaughtering nearly everyone. Elsewhere David Carver offers his first prayer to God, asking that his best friend involved in a car accident may live, in turn he promises God his service. The boy's faith grows as God leads him and his family, as well as a writer to Desperation, as he is forced into a conflict of faith, human instinct, and the doubts of his companions. David is Gods messenger, his tool for burying once again this evil that has arisen. Desperation is another fine example of Stephen King's enthralling writing ability. The book is a classic of pitting good against evil. Though slightly slow to start the book quickly gains interest as the deputy's motives are revealed and the truth behind the massacre in Desperation is realized. A master of suspense Stephen King in no way fails to deliver a heart-pounding experience, dueling good against evil and analyzing faith and spirituality. I recommend this book not for the simple fact that is was written by Stephen King, but because of its underlying message and the way each character is so well defined and pieced into the puzzle that is Desperation.
Rating: Summary: this book is a must have for any stephen king fan. Review: this book is a thrilling horror full of blood gore and murder, and is so genius that only stephen king could have done it. this book is perfect for those hunting for horror.
Rating: Summary: Chilling, Entertaining! Review: "Desperation" is a real thriller. DO NOT READ ALONE IN THE HOUSE! I couldn't put it down.
Rating: Summary: if you like King, read this book. Review: This was an excellent read, however I think it has to go hand in hand with _The Regulators_. Reading only one or the other you only get part of the story--and it's a very interesting device that King uses, the same basic characters and story with different tellings. The Western theme is a nice change from Maine also. I will hold that people either love or hate King's books, I am one of the former, and if you are a fan then get a hold of this book. If you are just starting to read his stuff because you like horror then go with something that is a little more traditional.
Rating: Summary: INCREDIBLY PACKED BOOK Review: I never read a Stephen King book before The Regulators, after which I was referred to this book by a friend. I picked up the book and saw that it was almost twice as long as the Regulators, so I waited a while to read. But once I started, I couldn't put it down. King's totally original idea for the villain (Tak) makes for the best storyline in any novel I've ever read. If you like Stephen King (which I suddenly do), this book has it ALL. And as for the "left-wing paranoia", it exists only within the mind of Johnny Marinville and is not an attempt by King to inject some of his politics into his novels. This book rises far above that with a moral that is stated over and over in the book itself.
Rating: Summary: VERY GOOD BOOK Review: This is Stephen King's best novel since Misery
