Summary: Excellent book
Review: To start off, I must say one thing: Wow. Simply put, Desperation is one of the best books that Stephen King has ever graced his readers with. A lot of people, even people that like Stephen King more than just a little, might be discouraged by the size of the book, but they really shouldn't be. I finished the book in three days. King grabs you in the very beginning, dragging you through until he's done. It's great that he doesn't come out and reveal anything about the history of the small mining town of Desperation until he absolutely has to, and when he does, he simply slaps you in the face with it. Readers should be aware (especially those not familiar with King's writing style) that the bad situation he begins the book with continues to decline. It's not a happily ever after story, and I really don't think that anyone below sixteen should read it. Aside from the custom blood, guts, gore, and sex thing, King also drags a good bit of...questionable theology into the plot. Nevertheless, a great book, well worth reading.

Summary: The bloodiest work by King
Review: This was the bloodiest text I ever read or saw by Stephen King. The story is very interesting, I read the full book in one week because I couldn't stop reading: its very dynamic and the action is well distributed. Let me do a comparison with his book "Tommyknockers". In "Tommyknockers" King introduces the story on the first book, studies the non-action part of the story on the second book and finishes it on the third. When I read the second part, when all you have is thouse informations about what is happening around, I got very disappointed. But in this book, King won't do that: he will keep the action all the time, stoping during it to give you the information on the preceding history. Its like the book begining in the climax of the history and keeping it all way through, but with few stops to explain the whole story.Expect a book full of action and blood and as smart as the great other books by King on the item creativity. Thus I won't tell the history here and I suggest you to read it if you enjoied other work by Stephen King, since this one is very unique, very original.

Summary: One of King's Best
Review: This is one of King's best. In order to truly enjoy this book you must read the Regulators (under King's penname "Richard Bachman") right after it as the same characters appear in both but are totally different and related at the same time. Desparation takes you through the life of a little boy and his search for God, even though he does not really know he is searching. King does a wonderful job of weaving morality with religious themes. The characters are wonderfully rich and described in great personal detail so you feel like you know them. I was confused by the ending and have gone back and re-read it but still have not quite figured it out but I think that was King's point as he leaves it up to the reader to figure out what happened.

Review: I THOUGHT THAT THIS BOOK WAS ONE OF THE GREATEST BOOKS KING HAS WRITTEN. I LOVE READING HIS WORK AND IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THIS ONE, I WILL ONLY TELL YOU THAT IT IS ONE TO READ ON A WEEKEND. I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. I WAS DRAWN IN AS IF I WAS A CHARACTER. KING DOES A GREAT JOB OF KEEPING THE SUSPENSE IN THE AIR. YOU WILL BE ON EDGE WONDERING IF THE PRISONERS WILL GET OUT OF THIS TOWN, AND IF SO WILL THEY BE CARRIED OUT OR WILL THEY WALK OUT? WHO IS THE NEXT VICTIM? I ENCOURAGE YOU TO EITHER BUY OR BORROW THIS BOOK, YOU WILL BE AMAZED!

Summary: Stephen is king
Review: Desperation is King's greatest work (not including series) he has ever created, his ouevre. It is a tale of bloody debutchery, sex, Christianity, and of course, redemption. A queerincidence is that while reading the books in tandom, Regulators first and then Desperation, I was purged by two utterly physical reactions. At points King is so graphic in Regulators that my stomach, reeling, nearly exploded in a green-pea-soup of vomit. That being physical side-effect numero uno, during Desperation, I was so into the Johnny Marionville character that my heart sped up and my eyes gushed tears as the book ended. Juxtaposing these two emotions tells me that King has a knack for evoking reaction from his works. You cannot simply pick up a Kingian book, read it, then move along; he makes you think and makes you feel. Stephen King is one of the most provocative authors, truly gifted with a penchanct for great dialogue, surreal action, and cathartical closure. Desperation is his best.

Review: Simply put: If you like King, you'll love this book, if you don't read much of his stuff, you'll enjoy it anyway. Good story, great plot, deep characters, the whole ball of wax. I did feel that the young hero of the story was a little to obvious, but not enough to put me off. Buy it... read it, and enjoy it.

Summary: King does what he does best...
Review: Stephen King has been traveling new paths lately. Note HEARTS IN ATLANTIS (stories about Vietnam) or his memoir-slash-tips-for-writers piece, ON WRITING. In the last few years, he has strayed a bit from what he does best, though - scaring the bejebus out of his readers. It's his meat and potatoes. Call this a main course, then. King paints his morbid town and colors his palatte with interesting characters. This book reads fast, hard and relentless. As always, get a few friends to read it because this is one of those books you'll want to discuss with others when it's all said and done. If you haven't picked up King in awhile because his books aren't "scary" enough, this is one you shouldn't let get by you.

Summary: A great book by a great man. (Desperation)
Review: Me being only 16, I thought this was a rather good book. Most people think that a teenager like myself wouldn't get into something like this. That isn't true. I will admit that it did take me a little while to finish this book but I still read it. I'm not a religious person but this book still touched me and gave me chills at the same time. The idea that a child of 11 year old can act about 20 times more mature than a group of adults in a very harsh situation astounded me. If you do not want to hear a little about the ending then please stop reading. I don't want to ruin the book. The fact that David had lost his parents and was being chased by a crazy god in a human skin not only gave me nightmares but also made me think about the way I should treat my parents. Thinking that you may lose you parents the next day and the last thing you remember about them is that you were yelling and screaming at them. David was a very interesting and complex person. Following his heart and helping others just as God probably would. While reading this book I could feel the pain and suffering that he went through when he lost his sister and his parents. I know that there is no such thing as a perfect person but I think that David would be as close as you get to perfect. From the books I have read by Stephen King, I find him a very interesting person and a guy that I wouldn't mind to hangout with. From what I have heard about him, I don't think I would change my mind. Thank you for reading what I had to say.

Summary: A great reading pair...
Review: Buy this and buy The Regulators (under Bachman) at the same time. You read one, your 'other half' can read the other... now switch! These two books were clearly meant to be read together as a pair - released around the same date and following the same dusty trail. This is quite a good read and is a must for any Stephen King fan or dabler.
