Summary: Great Pass of time
Review: I must say that for King, this is quite a novel. From the moment I purchased this book, I could not put it down. Toward the middle, it seemed a little long winded and dull, but quickly grabbed my attention again and left me dumbfounded. Just when you think that the story is going one way, bamn, something happens and leaves you wondering what is next.

This is a great title for anyone who has interest in spirituality or superstitions. For me having the attention spann of a three year old, this was a great story. Highly recommended.

Summary: Great Book
Review: I recently but not so recently read deperation, and it was great. I got it as a christmas present from my parents(who got the hardcover version from the dollar store, and finished it two days after new years on the plane flight home to virginia from San Fran. Though I think The Stand was better(twice as long too) I still give it a five out of five. The great ensamble of charecters to the disturbing abandoned town to the slowly and not so slowly bio-degrading bad guy. An all around great peice of work.

Summary: Skip this one...There are other worlds than this!
Review: Before I say anything, let me begin by saying that Stephen King is one of my favorite authors, and that IT may very well be my overall favorite novel (although I'm reading Jane Eyre right now, and it is climbing the ranks quickly...) These facts cannot, however, preclude me from critisizing Desperation. If you are the type of Stephen King fan that I am - one who appreciates his honesty, understanding of working-class America, and ability to brew characters to cry for - then you will want to skip Desperation, which ultimately plays out to be a blood bath broken record of Tak, tak, and more Tak (you'll understand if you don't heed my advice!) If you are new to King, and looking for a good book to start with, please consider 'Salem's Lot, IT, Hearts in Atlantis, Insomnia, The Stand, The Talisman, Different Seasons, The Shining, Tommyknockers, Bag of Bones, and, of course, The Dark Tower series (all representative of why we love Stephen King!)

Summary: Another boring King offering...
Review: The first third of Desperation is actually pretty good (that's why I gave it two stars). A crazy cop hunts down people and murders them. But then the "bad cop" disintegrates into the Tak monster and the book goes downhill from there. The story starts off in suspenseful realism, but King clumsily turns everything into a supernatual bloodbath. He tries to offer deep religious symbolism to the grand fight between good and evil, but I just didn't care.

King's best days seem to be in rear-window. Dead Zone, Different Seasons, The Shining, and The Stand (bit too long, but good stuff) were superb works, but virtually everything King has written in the last 15 years pales to those early books.

Summary: Desperation, Only When I Stop Reading!
Review: This novel is one of my top ten favorite books of all time. It keeps you thinking "what the heck will happen next?" I know that is what I thought the whole time. It gives you the thrills and chills that must come with a good suspense story. Stpehen King really outdid himself this time. He keeps you dying to read more. When the book is done you just think how could anyone think up a story like this? And the mastermind himself? Have you ever seen his movies or read his other books? They are just as mind tingling as this one. I am not one for thrill seeking, but this novel is exciting and leaves you wondering what will happen next. I just could not stop reading! The storyline is so twisted and creepy things keep happening. King also goes so into depth about the characters and plot. Some stories introduce characters and are a real drag to read, but not this one! Right of the bat you read about the freaky things that are unraveling on highway 50. Kristen gives it two thumbs up!!!!!

Summary: Chilling and thought-provoking
Review: I was immediately drawn into this story from the very first page. As is typical with King novels, the reader feels a connection with the well-rounded characters and feels the emotional pain that they are experiencing. Readers will become enveloped in the the battle of Good vs. Evil and may even question their own spiritual status. Desperation is a story that will stay with you long after it is finished.

Summary: Too Graphic
Review: I found this book too graphic. It seem to take away from the usual Stephen King. Perhaps Mr. King is a bit darker than he cares to confess?

Summary: Good Story, Moronic Symbolism, King: Know Thine Place!
Review: Stephen King is a writer of extraordinary talent, whose greatest skill seems to be taking the common denominators of the human spirit and compiling them to create characters that speak to everyone they encounter like neighbors or friends. In "Desperation," King does just that, and does it well - perhaps better than ever before. The only King books with such well-defined characters are "The Stand" and "Tommyknockers" (both fantastic yarns - buy them today). Stand-outs from his all-star ensemble include an alcoholic writer (with whom King can surely identify), a punky young feminist and a rock-and-roll roadie. However, it must be said: Steve isn't a sociologist, nor is he a psychologist, a politician or a theologian. Thusly, whenever he adds a little bit of fable flavor to his story, it quickly turns the dissenting stomach. And his use of symbolism bothers me (the little guy with god on his side - named "David?" Puhlease!). Who's he trying to impress? What's the use of that?!?!?! But, on the whole, it must be said: no one can blend fun and substance like King, and "Desperation" is obviously the product of a writer of staggering ability blazing away at his computer with loads and loads of word-smithing chops to aid him.

Summary: Stephen King Desperation
Review: I felt that Stephen kings desperation was one of thwe best books I've ever read. That is one of the reasons i rated this book with a five. The reasons why i rated this book with a five are as follows, The book had great detail, and great visual detail, and the suspense was awsiome. The detail in the book was very good I could picture everything the authof described. The visual detail was even better, the author made me feel like i was the one in the story, and i could feel the characters pain happiness and fear. Also the suspense in the novel was awsome, it kept me on my toes and made me want to keep reading on and on.I would reccommend this book to any one mature enough to handel foul language and some unspeakable situations. The age group i would reccommend to would probobley be sixteen and up. Although I am only thirteen there are many dfourteen year oldes who are not mature enough to handel this book.

Summary: Tak Ah Lah
Review: A wonderful tale full of horror and insanity. A group of people driving by the town of Desperation, Nevada, are stopped by Collie Entragian, a Desperation Police Officer, and are brought into the town to fight the ultimate battle against evil with the help of the praying boy, eleven-year-old David Carver. This story is very interesting, especially at the beginning. It starts off strong and loses the reader a little towards the middle, but if you read this, don't give up on it. It is long, but the end is fantastic. A few of the characters such as Johnny Marinville and David Carver are amazingly crafted. The scene where Entragian pulls over Marinville is also very comical. A fun story with a few scary parts. Classic King.
