Rating: 5 stars
Summary: SCARRRRRRRRY
Review: Truly another master piece by King! absolutely horrific! A true scare. Do not read while opperating heavy machinery. ***** five earned stars for the shining

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent Book
Review: Stephen King is the best horror author I have read. The Shining is one of his better books, besides Needful Things. Reading The Shining is like having Stephen King take you by the hand, leading you to a haunted hotel, shoving you in and locking the door until you finish reading this book

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A classic. Belongs in every American Literature classroom.
Review: I loved this book. It was disturbing on just about every level imaginable. Unlike some later Stephen King narratives, King steers away from the gross-out, blood and gore imagery and takes us straight into the mind of a normal man, Jack Torrance, so that we can watch a living hotel tear it to pieces. If you like to be afraid, read this alone in a big old house. You will not be disappointed, merely sleepless

Summary: Chilling!
Review: The Shining was maybe my third book I've read from King. Like I have said before, I don't get scared easily. But The Shining sure did scare the heck out of me! Espesially late at night, after I put the book down. I look out my window, where I have some hedges not unlike the hedges made into animals in The Shining (except mine are just hedges; not shaped like anything), and I started to think "what if they come to life, come through my window while I'm not looking, while I'm fast asleep...." For a very long time after reading The Shining I opened my shower curtain to the 'tub whenever I had to go to the bathroom, especially late at night, to make sure a dead, bloated, lady wasn't in there ... waiting for me, wanting me. Just thinking about it gives me the chills! If you want to be scared, this will do it

Summary: By far, the BEST
Review: Stephen King outdid himself on this one. I couldn't sleep after this one. Imagine, stuck in that big hotel with some lunatic. It was the icing on the cake

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Imagine.....
Review: You are alone in a big dark house. All you can hear is the wind outside. There's not a single living person in fifty miles. You are trapped there...alone in the dark... You go to the library and choose a book to read. By some weird reason you take King's Shining. That was not a smart move in these conditions. The next hours find you sitting in a comfortable chair...you just can't put the book down. You are so scared that you would like to SCREAM but you'll still keep on reading. When you eventually close the book you have definately finished it. There is no way you can put it down before that. But you'll keep on sitting in this chair, too scared to move, too much overwhelmed by this book. You will never forget this night. Every time you are alone you will think about it....

Summary: Flawless Technique
Review: King grinds out plenty of dreck, however, The Shining is a great novel for learning the mechanics of narrative. The plot moves like a frieght train and you WILL NOT put it down. A perfect example of how to write a true pager-turner. Confidential to all creative writing professors: The Shining should be part of every creative writing class

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Creative plot with a seductive twist that gave me chills.
Review: The description of the New years eve party was very seductiveand when the father went after the family with a mallet I nearlyfreaked. The ending had a morbid beauty that made the whole story worth reading again and again. Stephen King still raves as a genius.

Summary: Simply the Best!
Review: Only one word describes this book: OUTSTANDING!!!!!!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: "ALL OF KING'S MAGIC, EVIL, HORROR, AND ENERGY!!!"
Review: "The Shining", is without a doubt, not only one of my favorite King books, but one of my favorite BOOKS ever! It's scary from the start. Anyone who has seen the recent mini-series on television, read this book as a companion piece!! Jack Nicholson is great,...but didn't do justice to the Jack Torrance in the novel, a man who is decent, yet sad, at first and gets worse...and worse greatly due to the INTENSE evil in the OverLook Hotel, the scariest place since, Poe's, "House of Usher." Also, read, "IT", if you liked this one, and you will!! -"Danny, come down here and take your medicine..."-finis
