Rating: Summary: Horrifying, Tragic, and OUTSTANDING by the Master Of Horror Review: For those who think this book was when SK was running out of ideas and just doing for the money, you should understand that this was his 3rd book, hardly for the money. And how can you be running out of ideas if you've written some 20 bestsellers after this? I thought this was an amazing book, proving King to be the King of horror. It seems to be his best book, but i've yet to read The Stand, so I'm not sure yet. All the subplots just wove together in an absolutely gorgeous tapestry. All my other friends have read this, and have all given it rave reviews. This will be a tough book to beat on the list of modern classics!
Rating: Summary: The greatest SK book ever! Review: Actually, this is probably the best book I ever read (this and Psycho). The books written before this (especially Carrie) were fantastic but this blew them all away. The first Stephen King book I ever read (have read it twice since) and the biggest reason I am such a big fan.
Rating: Summary: The Shinig Was Great Review: Wow This book was scary just like the movie and the tv movie I kept me reading Really all I have to say is that this book was amazing and out of all of Stephen King's books this was the best by far
Rating: Summary: I AM NEVER GOING TO BED AGAIN!! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!! Review: That was the scariest book I have ever read. I was especially scared because I was reading it in semi-darkness (not smart) with a flashlight. I liked Danny's powers. they were awesome! To all you idiots who think this book is primative, stupid, and clearly not one of King's better stories, GET A LIFE!!!!!
Rating: Summary: The Shining is a great book. Review: When I was reading the Shining, I couldn't put it down. King did an excellent job displaying a schizophranic and this book had many subplots. Showing that some people only have a little psychic ability struck me, and I enjoyed reading on.
Rating: Summary: Stephen King's most visionary tale! Review: The Shining is one of the most well written books there have ever been. It is the result of the master of horror himself putting his mind into the story. It immediately became far and away the best novel I have ever read. Stephen King has a masterpiece in this story which has created a legacy that will live on long after we have all come and gone.
Rating: Summary: Vintage King Review: While probably not as good as the widely misunderstood Kubrick film that took the text and moulded into a cinematic masterpiece, this book is by far and away one of the best of King's books. It develops the character of a hotel filled with snares and devillish traps exquisitely - because these traps are not tangible, they are in the mind. The story takes the standard "Haunted House" model and modifies it beyond belief, adding believability and making frightning fairytales reality. Simply a must read for any person wanting to experience Stephen King literature, or anyone who likes a good yarn.
Rating: Summary: exceptional reading Review: much like the Amityville horror house, the Overlook Hotel takes the reader into the dephts of a story that's truly an American classic. Stephen King is sure to be remembered in 50 years as one the best writers of the 20th century.
Rating: Summary: You will want to sleep with the lights on!!! Review: In The Shining, Steven King did make Danny's power somewhat believable. The old wives' tale about the caul was tied in so perfectly. King "wrote around what Danny foresaw" then when it actually happens it hits you like a hammer. (At first you don't understand what King is trying to say then all of a sudden it makes sence.) King does an awesome job of making loose ends and then tying them up. The way King expressed how the "shineless" people see Danny's power isn't believable at all. I would think that the doctor would have her suspitions about Danny, but King didn't want to go into it. Jack and wendy just seemed to accept danny power as a part of him. It was kind of irritating that King didn't go into much detail at all about how the shineless people felt.
Rating: Summary: This book is the best I read Review: I liked this book because if you read it carefully it is very scary. It is pretty sad when the hotel takes Danny's dad away and kills him. I liked the book better than the movie with Jack Nicholson.
