Summary: THIS BOOK HAS THE BEST PLOT I HAVE EVER READ!!!
Review: THIS BOOK HAS THE BEST PLOT HE DEVELOPS THE STORY IN A GREAT WAY TOO. THE CHARACHTERS ARE DONE IN A BELEIVABLE WAY AND THE WAY HE DESCRIBES EVERYTHING IT MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE IN THE HOTEL. I THINK KING SHOULD MAKE A BOOK ON THE PAST OF THE HOTEL BEFORE JACK AND HIS FAMILY MOVED IN. ABOUT ALL THE OTHER MISHAPS THAT OCCURED IN THE HOTEL.

Review: I couldn't even read the whole book. Normally his books are the kind i can't put down. But with this i could have taken an eight hour nap. The damn book made me want to sleep. I read about 100 pages. It was so boring that i couldn't concentrate on it. Redrum, ok great but is that the only thing in the book thats trying to make me not stop reading? Come on! I am a laid back person and that was just too boring. I'll try reading it again hoping i don't go unconcious because of my bordom. And it's just great the guy is crazy but having a kid with supernatural powers is too much for the book.

Summary: The Absolute Best!!!
Review: As a constant reader and writer, I get around to reading ALOT of books, and some of them I'll read with total awe. Very few I will read multiple times. But those that I do are certainly something. I have read The Shining three times, and it is still the greatest novel I have ever read. This is one book I would recommend to any one who reads, King fan or not. And with the recent miniseries, new life has been pumped into this book. The aforementioned miniseries is well worth your time, as it sticks very closely to the book. And the 1980 Stanley Kubrick film? Despite trailing the way it does, it is still a fantastic movie, not so much as a conversion, but as a stand-alone. Please, if you haven't read the book or seen either of the films. Stop depriving yourself! Do it now!

Summary: Dont' Go Near That Topiary, Jack
Review: How can I say this? This novel is fantastic. If you have not read it go directly to the book store now. This book was great. I loved and hated everyone at the same time. Especially Jack, yes I know he broke Danny's arm and what somewhat a lush at times, but he still tried to do what was best for everyone in the end, am I right. Wendy wasn't exactly a slice of pie all the time either. Well chalk it up to those pesky maternal instincts. I bought this book after I had come home from college for the summer and after a while, I found myself living up there in the Overlook with Wendy, Jack, and Doc. Please everyone read this book! Even if you never read King before, this is good place to start and you will beg for more. A little word to those of you who continue to cling to the outdated movie version of "The Shining" with Jack Nicolson. Wake Up! If you are anything like me you become enraged when directors take "creative liberties" with a novel. Yes, I realize this movie is considered a horror classic. and I like it too until I read the book, and I saw what ABC could do when they let Stephen King do the remake. The new movie is so much like the book (for once!) that I was actually happy with it. And the whole scence from the old movie with Torrance chopping people with a axe. WRONG! If you ask me, axes are a slightly boring and unoriginal way to kill someone, Roque Mallets are where its at!! Those of you who have seen both movies can relate. If you can wait this long, I reccomend reading this book on a cold, winter's night when your snowed in your home. There's nothing like a little mood weather.

Summary: Caution: Check In At Your Own Risk...
Review: This horror masterpiece by Stephen King is a classic that will stand for generations to come. A class in itself, indeed! King possesses an incredible, uncanny ability to draw so much in so few words. His characters, colorful settings, eventful situations, and surrealistic realms are as real as it gets. Definitely not for the squeamish. I had so much fun reading it (even with the lights on at night), and yes, certain passages made the hairs on the back of my neck stand at attention. Highly recommended. Moreover, King's TV mini-series of the same title with Steven Weber and Rebecca DeMornay is well worth viewing. Stanley Kubric's version with Jack Nicholson and Shelly Duval is not worth your while.

Summary: Taste the fear and powers of a five year old who shines.
Review: "The Shining" is the first book that I've read by Stephen King. The frightening story of Danny who has a special fearsome power called Shining. Jack and Wendy Torrance are Danny's parents who end up moving to Boulder, Colorado to help take care of the Overlook Hotel. This hotel holds many spirits of famous people from the past. Many weird and eerie things happen in this hotel that turns Jack into believing that his problems are worse than they are. He turns against his wife and son when he is possessed by the Overlook's evil power. Danny Torrance has the power and strength to save his mom and himself from the fate of the Overlook has in store for them. Many bad things have happened in this hotel that will lift the hairs on your body. Stephen King is a brilliant author whose character build up makes it easier to relate to them. I encourage you to pick up this book and give it a try if you haven't becuase King will scare the heck out of you.

Summary: The not so common place world of a child
Review: A connisseur of King I dipict this to be one of his best novels every written. The not so common place world of a family turned upside down as the neurotic caretaker looses touch with reality and ends up with a case of cabin fever. Follow the inner and outter thoughts of a little boy as he tries to make sense of his ability of foresight and also his father's reaction to the hotel. Definitely two thumbs up. Remember, the book is always more exceptional than the movie. Not so typical mind of a boy who shares a very special connection with the cook of the hotel. It's always a pleasure to be thrilled by King.

Summary: You will remember what he forgot Danny
Review: I wasn't much of a horror fan until I saw the made for T.V. mini-series version of The Shining. The mini-series was scary(especially in room 217.) The version enspired me to buy the book. The mini-series was great and the book was even better. I loved the book but I thought it was a also sad. Stephen King wrote the unbeleivable in a way that was beleivable. After I read the book I heard about the original version of The Shining so I watched it and I was somewhat disapointed. There were to many plot changes from the book. The two endings are totally different. I would recommend the book or mini-series version of The Shining to any horror fan.(The origianal version is still good but I theink the mini-series was much better)
