Summary: Best King book ever
Review: I have read almost every one of King's books and this one is the best with "The Stand" a very close second. Loved the character of Tony and how he guides Danny through what happens. Redrum is the classic term that permeated the pop culture. I would recommend that you read this book first if you haven't read any of his books before

Summary: THE BEST
Review: This is SK's best book! (according to me) And I'd just like everyone who saw the MOVIE (not the mini-series) to know that the book IS different than the movie so you still have to read the book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: By far Stephen King's best!
Review: An old hotel with a quite violent past and a 5 year old boy with special powers aren't a good mix! Stephen King is excellent - he makes you feel like your right there in the story! Definately Stephen Kings best book ever - possible the best horror story ever!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A truly excellent book
Review: The Shining is quite possibly one of the best books that I've ever read and probably the best horror book hands down.

It is my third Stephen King book and I can't wait to read another. As with the other two King books that I've read (The Stand and Salem's Lot) the characters in this book are so well done that to simply say that you care about them would be an understatement. King does an especially good job of portraying a 5-year-old child and a former alcoholic who has been "on the wagon" for what seems to him as an eternity.

What I really liked about this and his other books is the way that Stephen King is able to let us into a character's mind and scare them and us from the inside out. In my opinion that is why he is so good.

In the Shining, King manages to keep us frightened from the foreshadowing in the very beginning until the very horrific end.

A truly excellent book.

Summary: scarier than the movie; prepare for some sleepless nights!
Review: Having read the book first, I was a bit disappointed with the movie, because of the book's greater detail and superior storyline. Perhaps not the "masterpiece in modern horror" as advertised on the paperback cover, but neverthless a good read which will make you check all the dark places in your bedroom before turning out the lights.

Summary: Call me crazy, but I liked the movie better...
Review: I know I must be one of the few, but I really did enjoy the Kubrick film over the King novel. It is very possible that this has to do with the fact that I saw the movie first, but that's not all. I wasn't able to get as firm a grip on the characters in the book as I did in the movie. Overall, it's good but not nearly as satisfying.

Summary: Makes a woman really look at her husband!!!
Review: My husband wishes I had never heard the words "The Shining". After watching that movie I was a little on edge, but after reading the book I wonder if my husband might just snap at anytime over nothing at all. This was one of the best stories I've ever read.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A Gripping, Chilling Novel. An Allnight Read
Review: I was unable to put this book down, and jumped at every noise in the house! It is a must read for suspense lovers. The book was much better than the movie, although I pictured Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrence. The Shining is the best Stephen King novel.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of King's scariest and best
Review: This is easily one of Knig's best works. It is extremely gripping and when one considers the implications of Jack Torrance's mental deterioration, it is a profoundly disturbing book. King successfully conveys to us the isolation that allows Jack to terrorise his family. The characterisation of all three main characters is superb.

A must not only for all King fans but indeed for everyone.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: And the Read Death held sway over all...
Review: This is another one of King's greatest achievements-don't even bother watching the movie...the book will keep you much more horrified!!!!
