Rating: Summary: Spell-bindingly macabre Review: This book truly epitimizes the Stephen King we all know and love. He takes a simple ghost story and turns it into a captivating piece of work that, hopefully someday, will become required reading in the public schools that currently obstruct my flow of creativity. I strongly advise any person willing to frighten themselves silly to purchase this book and savor it for many years to come.
Rating: Summary: umm..good book, but the ending..please Review: i happened to like this book kinda well....as i saw jack torrance to be a figure that i once was and am becoming again.the isolation, the insanity, and the catatonic fear.especially the fear of jack's pride being broken.where the hotel turned him against the idea of leaving it for doc's sake.just who exactly is the hotel manager???i feel tht jack torrance's condition in the story was quite nonfiction.any human(especially a depressed struggling writer who hasn't had a drink in years)would react the same way as jack did if they had the same reoccurring thoughts and troubles.i was really horrified by the fact that jack was killed!!!!it was like watching myself die in a horror book with my name attached to the character!!!as if i wrote a autobiography of my life and death.even though i found the character wendy to be quite a normal and boring b*tch.i felt like there was a space between her and i...i couldn't relate to her situation and her night thoughts.I liked the book, don't get me wrong about this.but i didn't like the ending..the ending was kinda of like a disney ending fairytale land b*llshit story ending.i also thought that charles grady should of had a bigger role in that book.this is the only steven book i ever read, and thats because i happen to hear about the plot, theme, and setting from one of my friends.i found it very appealing.some of the parts like when jack dreams and finds that kid he hit in the bathtub naked with silver eyes was kinda unneeded.it was like a teenage kid in a creative writing class wrote it.i also saw the movie(the good one with the real jack in it)and it was kinda good but you probably wouldn't understand a lot if you hadn't read the book.i found that jack really brought the maddness and insanity of the character jack torrance in it.he was awesome in that movie...one of his best performances as a actor.no one could of did it better and i mean no one.this book consumed some time of my boring insane existence.i mean the thoughts in my mind are very dangerous.this book kept them away for a whole 2 days.it was good.
Rating: Summary: The Best Novel Any One Has Ever Made!!! Review: The Shining is the best book I have ever read. It kept me up all night thinking of what would happen next. A gripping nonstop story with lovable characters that will last with me forever. The Shining comes with a great ending. I have read it cover to cover FIVE times! It does not get any better than this. READ IT DAMNIT!!!
Rating: Summary: UNREALISTIC... BUT AWESOME!! Review: I HAVE READ SEVERAL SEVERAL STEPHEN KING BOOKS... THIS ONE'S THE BEST! I'M RELATIVELY YOUNG, BUT I KNOW A LOT ABOUT HORROR. IT'S ALL I READ! THIS BOOK IS QUITE UNREALISTIC, BUT HEY, WHO CARES?! I CERTAINLY DON'T. MORE UNREALISM MAKES THE BOOK BETTER. I LIKED THE BOOK MUCH BETTER THAN THE MOVIE. THE MOVIE WAS GOOD (BECAUSE OF JACK NICHOLSON), BUT THEY ADDED AND TOOK AWAY TOO MANY THINGS FROM THE BOOK. THE BOOK WAS FINE! WHY MAKE THE MOVIE WORSE?! I'VE READ BOOKS INCLUDING "sALEM'S LOT" AND "THE DARK HALF", BUT "THE SHINING" IS MUCH BETTER!
Rating: Summary: This book ruled!!! REDRUM, MURDER, REDRUM, MURDER!!! Review: This is not King's best, it's his third best. When I read this novel I was so hooked that I missed a couple of days from school just reading this book. I, as a big King fan, firmly suggest for you to read this incredible work. But expect the novel to have a different ending from the movie. I could see why King was so upset at Stanley Kubrick for his adaption. I would be upset, too. First of all, the movie was extremely boring, second of all, it seemed as if the movie was a whole different story.
Rating: Summary: The scariest roller-coaster ride I've ever been on. Review: I've read every Stephen King novel and short story, and, next to Christine, The Shining is one of the best King novels I've ever put in front of my face.
Rating: Summary: perfect Review: I thought that how Stephen King wrote about a man going psychotic due to the enclosed space was brilliant. Him slowly turning mad and then going insane enough to try and kill his family was perfect. All in all this book was great and intrguing.
Rating: Summary: The Shining - Excellent, Scary and Spell Binding Review: You know I have seen both movie versions of this novel, and folks I just have to tell you, they just don't do justice to the book itself. I read this book back in 1977. I was so hooked on it, that I started to read a few pages to my husband one night and it got to the point where he had me reading the whole book out loud, while he sat infront of me with a constant wide eyed look. I strongly suggest that you read the book, there is no comparison. After you do, I guarantee you will not want to waste any time in getting another King book to keep you charged up.
Rating: Summary: Awesome story! Read it! Review: Read this story, it is so awesome. For one thing, the movie wasn't as good, and the book is really creepy. So if you didn't read it, bad luck for you. So go out, get it (Store or library) and read it!
Rating: Summary: It really "shines"! Review: I had seen the Jack Nicholson movie first, but I loved the book a thousand fold over that. The book made sends of some little details in the movie that left the viewer questioning them. I became so engrossed in this novel that any sudden noise would scare me to death! I loved it!!!
