Rating: Summary: CARE TO SPEND A NIGHT IN THE OVERLOOK HOTEL?????? Review: When Jack Torrance and his wife and son move into the giant Overlook Hotel for a few months as the winter caretaker, they bite off a little more than they can chew. It turns out the Overlook Hotel is laying on top of an Indian Buriak ground. Oh, and did I mention the Hotel's disturbing history, such as the previous caretaker butchering his family??? Or the fact that Jack's son Danny possesses a power that can let him predict the future??? Nuff said. Read the book, it's Stephen King's best!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: More intriguing than the movie! Review: This book was excellent! I read it within 2 days because I could not stand the suspense. Much different than the movie, & as always, this book gives better detail to the plot. I had many a nightmare for a week after reading! :)
Rating: Summary: I expected more. Nonetheless, it's worth the reading Review: The Overlook Hotel, a place inhabited by hideous wandering souls. Well, spirits can't hurt you! They couldn't, until "The Shining". Along with most of SK books, this one have a long boring descriptive introduction. The last third, however, contains the climax, which is worth the reading. I really don't think one can be SCARED by a book. In fact, the right word would be MESMERIZED(in the climax, I say). From SK I've read 'Salem's Lot, The Shining, Dead Zone, The Eyes of the Dragon, Nightshift and Desperation. If you wanna know my opinion about any of these, just send an E-mail!
Rating: Summary: The worst I've ever read Review: Although I'm a great Stephen King fan, I simply hate this book and don't understand all the hoopla around it. The characters are absurd, the "scary" parts (like the animated stone animals) are histerically laughable and I couldn't wait for seeing when will this mess would do me the favor to be over. I've noticed that King is a writer that gives multilayered book, like a bad novel with a good ending (read Cujo) or a good novel with a bad ending (read Pet Semetary) but nothing of that happens in this book. The Shining is absurd, ridiculous and by far, the worst book he's ever written. If you want to see children in a scary book, that really scares you, go and read some John Saul.
Rating: Summary: exelent work of a genuis Review: The book is brilliant and the movie is as good the image of a man going beserk works perfectly only a master could write this
Rating: Summary: Great scary book! Review: I am 13 years old. I know I'm a little too young to read Stephen King novels but I'm interested in adult books. After I saw the movie "The Shining" starring Jack Nicholson, and I was reading Cold Mountain at the time, but after that, I wanted to read "The Shining". I didn't know how they changed the movie from the book, I'm not saying that the movie novels are better. I'm saying the book was scarier. And it was. This was one of the top ten books I ever read. I didn't care how long it took until the scary parts came. It had alot of details and it was written well. I heard that they are remaking Shirely Jackson's "The Haunting". If they do that, they should remake "The Shining" and put every single detail from the book into the movie. Gary Sinese should star in it. Thank you.
Rating: Summary: This is the scariest book I've ever read Review: I've read this book for the first time when I was just starting junior high, indeed it was a great book and it's still one of my favorites. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes interesting horror books and very spooky ghost stories. And yet, I wouldn't call it a best choice for those who don't want to get too scared... Honestly, I sometimes still get images of rotten corpses soaking in the bathtub when I pass by the it in the dark!
Rating: Summary: The Shining was a great horror novel. Review: The Shining was a great horror novel! I really liked the character Mr. Halloran. I liked him because he took a bad situation and made a joke about it. I also liked the connection of a young boy's love for his father, even when he became possesed by the hotel. The Overlook also gave me an eerie feeling & the part when Danny is in room 217 was relly weird because you couldn't tell if Danny was really expirencing this horror or if it was a dream. My favorite scene was either when Danny was outside playing in the snow and the hedge animals came alive or when Jack was possesed with the roque mallet. All in all The Shining was a great book!
Rating: Summary: All Work And No Play. . . Well You Know The Rest Review: Just another day at a winter resort, or is it? King masterfully weaves a giant slice of horror in The Shining. It was obvious that I would think about Jack Nicholson's insane face peeking through the door while reading this fantastic book. This is definitely one of King's greatest works that captivates and terrorizes. I loved the book and the movie equally. Try not to get caught in the middle of a snowy hedge maze while being chased by a madman with a weapon!
Rating: Summary: Its ok, not the best.. Review: Stephen King is known for writing some of the scariest stories. I read the shining, because I loved the movie from the first time I saw it. However, It is kind of boring and dull throughout the book. And at the end, all of the spooky stuff happends. A very short ending I must say, but it was still ok. I would recomend this to a person that likes the suspense to build before it attacks.
