Rating: Summary: Chilling Climax Review: King doesn't really get going on this one til the last 100 pages, but when he does....... it can be some scary stuff. I thought the movie was off compred to the book. If you have seen the movie, the book is a different story. I would recommend this one
Rating: Summary: This book was a great read. Review: This book was one of the better Steven King books I've read, and would definitly recommend this to anybody with a hunger for reading.
Rating: Summary: King's best Review: This is Stephen King's best novel
Rating: Summary: ho hum..... Review: I love the movie but friends kept telling me it doesn't do the book justice and that I really should read it. So I thought, hey, I'm willing to try anything once, even Stephen King, but boy, was I disappointed with this novel. It started out promising enough with just enough metaphors, motifs and compulsive thinking to keep things interesting and spooky but about half way through the book (about the time all that supernatural stuff gets going) King begins hammering the reader over the head with heavy-handed allusions and repeated references as though he's afraid we won't get it. Maybe it's just that I don't have much tolerance for or interest in magical thinking but I found the last half of the book tedious bordering on silly. To my mind, the scariest part of the book by far was something that could have happened in real life -- the episode with the wasps nest in Danny's room. But I also think that the things real human beings are capable of doing to each other are far more horrifying than anything involving an elevator that moves on it's own, background ballroom music, the whirring machinations of a wind-up clock or a hotel taking over the body and mind of a sad, pathetic, middle-aged man.
Rating: Summary: WOW. Just Wow. Review: This is one of King's earlier works (3rd published novel, if I'm not mistaken), and certainly the best one I"ve read so far. He dug so deep into the characters that it's impossible to hold no emotion towards them. This book really freaked me out at night (well...kinda :P). The climax was totally mesmerizing and intense. The ending was so sad it kinda made me want to cry. All in all, an irresistable read, a MUST read. PS Misery is also highly recommanded.
Rating: Summary: Scariest book I ever read. Review: This is one of only two books I have ever read that I had to close in the middle, and wait before reading on, it was that scary. Truly a masterwork. Other great haunted house books include "Hell House" and the "Haunting of Hill House", but I felt this one outdid them all.
Rating: Summary: ONE OF KING'S BEST Review: THIS IS STILL ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE NOVELS. IT'S A BIT HARD TO UNDERSTAND IN THE BEGINNING, BUT IF YOU READ CLOSE ENOUGH YOU WILL FEEL THAT YOU ARE ONE OF THE FAMILY. IT'S A MUST READ.
Rating: Summary: What did you expect? Review: It's Stephen King people, didn't you expect nothing but the best? A classic horror novel from an author who is one of the best in his profession. I'm 13 years old and Love the King books. If you liked this one I suggest you read Needful Things.
Rating: Summary: Love it! Review: I'm 12 years old and a lot of people say my parents shouldn't let me read adult books (Stephen King, V.C. Andrews, Bently Little etc.) I just thought The Shining was well written and very suspenseful. It wasn't gory but it was very psychological... 5 stars...
Rating: Summary: Excellent five star horror filled thriller Review: This novel is an act of classic fiction, from Steven King, and has his usual style of twisted horror. The main characters are Jack, Wendy, and Danny Torrence. Because he's poor, Jack accepts a job as winter caretaker of the overlook hotel. He later learns of his huge mistake. The hotel is haunted (men go mad in it alone, like Jack). Danny is blessed with the Shining, he can see future horrifying images. This is a brilliant masterminded plot from king. It is not to far fetched, but yet is evil, horrifying, and amongst his best books. It is a brilliantly written novel that takes you through the horrifying extremeties of King's classic writing style. This is one of King's (the worlds finest horror writer) best pieces of work.
