Rating: Summary: Movies vs. Books Review: I saw the original movie first, then read the book about ten years later. The movie was terrifying. The book itself merely suspenseful. I was able to empathize with every character, especially Danny, who was caught up in both his parents' struggles. The subject of alcoholism was portrayed very well. It would've been interesting to learn, in detail, the background of that hotel and its spirits. But the book would've been way too long. It was cool who 'Tony' turned out to be. Like I said above, this book is suspenseful, but not one I would deem terrifying. I think the movie outdid it.
Rating: Summary: The Shining Review: I thought that The Shining was a very good while at the same time a vert scary book.Stephen King at his BEST!
Rating: Summary: REDRUM! REDRUM! Review: Okay, if you have read other stephen kings books and found them NOT scary well......the shining proves you wrong. this is one of the greatest horror books i think beacause it's intelligent, chilling, entertaining, a good read, and terrifying and scary! im 13, and before i read it i thought (the 467 pages) would be too long for me to do it as a book project. well, i started reading it and i was glued to it. i read about 40 pages a night. it's not slowly paced and it goes smoothly and it is not too detailive. before this, i have read 6 other SK books. they were scary. but once i read the shining, i knew this was the scariest. i then saw the movie with Jack Nicholson. he played a great "Jack". he creeped me out and i just made it through before pressing the stop button (the remote was in my hand the whole time). incredible, mind boggling, intelligent, sophisticated, disturbing, grotesque, horrifying all of those words describe THE SHINING.
Rating: Summary: HORRIFYING Review: This is the greatest book I have ever read. I am much younger than the casual reader for this kind of book. The story was incredible, horrifying. Stephen King is Great
Rating: Summary: The Shining shines on Review: The Shining is the tale of a haunted hotel, with a boiler that will explode and destroy everything, which is symbolic of the alcoholic Jack Torrance. This is the only King book I've read to date that has really scared me. With the horror in room 217, moving hedge animals, and disembodied voices lurking in the shadows, The Shining is a marvelous read. Highly recommended, with many twists and turns to keep you interested in the mystery of what haunts the Overlook hotel. The events in this novel are referred to in MISERY, another masterpiece by Stephen King.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant! Review: We were given a project to do at school where we could read any book. So after watching the film (which was average) I decided to read this book, and it was soooo good, scary in all the right places (most of the book). It's not just all gore like some horror books it is really freaky and it just keeps you guessing. I would definatley recomoned people to read this book, also do not be put off by the film, the book is so much better.e-mail me!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely terrifying! Review: This is by far the scariest book I have ever read. At times I literally had to remind myself to breathe! It is impossible to put this book down once you have started, Stephen King pulls you relentlessly onward to the finish. This is by far his best book! Well written with great characters that you truly do care about (even Jack). You must read this!
Rating: Summary: Macabre haunted house story. Review: He is the master of the macabre for a reason. This story gives you goosebumps and sleepless nights. I found this book had original plot elements that made an old story seem new, and the ending is horrific. Recommend even if you are not a Stephen King fan!
Rating: Summary: WOW! Review: They say that the movie was better than the book! NO WAY! This book was such a great one that I had to lock all of the windows and doors because I thought that the guy was going to come and try and kill me! I was so scared that some of it, I had to read with my friend! When Danny started SCREAMING REDRUM, it was so scary. When the dad was trying to get into the room with an ax, Danny climbed out of the window, but the woman could not fit through! Read the rest of this book and find out how scary and exciting this book really is!
Rating: Summary: GREATEST IN THE WORLD.....EVER Review: I loved this book so much because it was exciting and thrilling. When the family has to go up to the mountians to look after the Overlook Hotel for the winter, Danny has visions that things are going to go wrong. He has visions that there will be murder, blood, and death. When he starts yelling REDRUM, that is the most thrilling part of the book. Read on to learn how this great and scary book ends!
