Summary: The BEST King Book I Have Read Yet.......
Review: I have already reviewed this book six months ago, but I feel the need to say more about this brilliant masterpiece. "The Shining" was the first King book that I read. Since then I've read about ten more, on my way to reading all of his books, and have found that this book was my far the best one. The only one that came even close was "Misery". The book takes place in Sidewinder Colorado (a break from the usual Maine settings)in the heart of winter at the Overlook Hotel. Main character, Jack Torrence is a writer and takes the job as a caretaker in order to get some piece and quiet and work on the story he is composing. He takes his wife and his son, Danny with him. It is at the Overlook that Danny discovers that he has "the shining", a special telepathic ability to see things that will happen and to know what people are thinking. It turns out that the piece and quiet that Jack wanted is far from what he gets... It is an excellently written tale and the story line of cabin fever gone to an extreme is brilliant. I felt as if I was actually in the hotel viewing everything that was taking place. It is filled with hallucinations, ghosts, and most of all, the wit and evil sarcasm of one of my favorite 'evil' villians, Jack Torrence. There is absolutlely no way that you will not enjoy this book. I even suggest watching the movie (after you read the book) which is also excellent!

Summary: Wow!
Review: I don't know what to say. Great book, plot, and characters. It takes place in a hotel that a family is watching for the winter. Some weird things begin to happen and before you know it Jack Torrance is trying to kill his family! It starts a little slow, but picks up fast. Many scary events go on inside this hotel, it is guaranteed to thrill you! I highly reccomend it!

Summary: redrum REDRUM RREEDDRRUUM!
Review: This book was awesome! I reaad the book and couldnt put it down! After reading the book, i saw the stanley kubrick movie. I thought the movie was horrible because so much was left out, like the hedge animals, the wasps nest, george hatfield, and more. however, i disagree with those that say that the beginning was slow, because to me it was awesome! it foreshadowed on the spectacular ending. All of the characters are well developed, from Hallorann, to jack, to the women that wanted to get in a porter's pants (dont ask, just read). The book was riveting, and exciting, but i recommend you do not read the chapter names before reading the book. It is an extraordinary, suspenseful, fast read, like deperation.

Summary: King's Masterpiece
Review: This is by far Stephen King's best work and one of the best novels I've ever read. It is not about a haunted hotel, a psychic child, or even madness and alcoholism, though it contains all of those elements. It is, simply put, about a father's love for his son. The motion picture, while scary in its own right, did not do justice to the story; conversely King's adaptation for ABC was truer and scarier. He even tweaked the ending a little, resulting in a powerful tug at any father's heartstrings. If you only read one King book, this is the one.

Summary: The Shining
Review: Stephen King is one of the best horror writers. His book, The Shining is a great horror film. It takes place in a hotel in the snowy Rocky Mountains. This story is all about a family that moves to the Overlook Hotel in the Rocky Mountains. The family moves so the father can be isolated and have the time to write. The kid, Danny has great powers that he doesn't know about. In the hotel many terrible and horror things happen. The most famous saying is "redrum." It spells out murder backwards. I recommend this book to anyone that loves horror books or anyone that loves Stephen King.

Summary: Moview goers should take the time to read this one...
Review: Jack Nicholson gave the best perfomance of his career in the screen adaption, but it wasn't enough to put the film in the same league as the book. That's not a knock against Jack Nicholson, though It's impossible to capture the thoughts and images that goes through one's mind while reading this incredible tale. 'Nuff said... now, but the book, find a nice quiet place to read, and let King use your mind to SCARE THE HELL OUT YOU!

Summary: As of May 31, 2000, this still my favorite King book.
Review: This the second Stephen King novel that I have read, and it is still my favorite King novel. Brilliantly written and thought out, it is extremely absorbing. This book delivers one heck of a haunted house story. King may hate the movie, but even though I read the book before I saw all the movie(I saw clips of it while channel surfing), Jack Torrence looked and sounded like Jack Nicholsen in my minds eye. Read it!

Summary: The Shining. . .
Review: As Siskel and Ebert would say, "two thumbs up". The Shining was a fantastic and suspenseful horror novel. I could not put it down. All the clues and the hints that showed that there was a definite plot made it such an intriguing novel to read. Stephen King has such great writing skills and really makes his reader use their imagination. He describes his characters so well and you feel like you know them. He takes his time and lets you get a good sense of what the characters are like instead of just rushing into the climax and having 1000 pages of denoument after. Stephen King uses such wonderful foreshadowing, but he uses it in a different way. The main character's son , Danny, is psychic and all of the hints and clues kind of go through him. I recommend this book to Stephen King lovers and also to people who like a good scare or two. It's kind of a challenging book , it's actually about 450 pages. Probably only really meant for highschoolers and up to read.

Summary: This is the best Stephen King book ever!
Review: I love this book so much. I've read it again and again and I have to say it's my second favorite book (second to Catcher in the Rye!). It's so scary and tragic...it pulls you in and you just can't stop reading it. You don't want to read anymore because it's scaring you, but you just can't put it down because you have to know what happens next. I consider this Stephen King's best work. (I also suggest Carrie, Four Past Midnight, and Firestarter, three of Stephen King's better works, in my opinion.)

Summary: Scary, Touching, well written
Review: What I like about this book, as with all his other books is the incredible ambiguity that Steven King is able to give to his characters. They come across as multidimensional, real people. Also, I like how he keeps interspersing their thoughts with the descriptions of the environment and the passing actions. It gives it a soothing dreamlike, feel. The shining is one of my favorites. It's a terrifying story, and very well written. I liked the T.V. series better than the movie with Jack Nicholson. But the movie had a more intense, terrifying feel to it. I watched it when I was ten and it scared me to death.
