Rating: Summary: What a fun series! Review: And the chain of great book continues! I absolutly loved the characters in this book and it was so well written. We get to see a whole new side of Anital as she struggles with her feelings for Richard, adn how his "once a month furries" might interfer with their realationship. Not to mention the fact that the master vampire of the city is extreamly jealous of their relationship. This was a great book and I couldn't put it down for a secon
Rating: Summary: A very romanitc "Dawn of the Dead" with a bite. Review: Get hot for the sexiest vampire and the female vampire hunter who loathes to love him. The story is set in St. Louis of the future where supernatural creatures are protected by the Constitution of the United States of America. You'll meet werewolves, vampires, the risen-dead, and their licensed killers. Anita Blake is the top licensed vampire killer in the city.
The King of the City, Jean-Claude, is a vampire straight out of Harlequin romance with a bite. A love story of dominant characters who seek to establish a relationship of equals, not master and victim. Jean-Claude and Anita provide some of the steamiest repressed sex scenes in horror novel history. But don't get comfortable; you are reading along, thinking love and tenderness, when WHAM! the guts of a close friend are spilled all over the page. This is the honesty of L.Hamilton's novels, anyone can die.
Anita is dating Richard, the second most important werewolf in St. Louis. (This does not amuse Jean-Claude.) This story begins when the husband of a missing werewolf asks for Anita's help to locate his wife. Anita works with the Preternatural Squad and learns that many werewolves are missing.
Her search for the missing werewolves leads her to the Lunatic Cafe; where the were-folk hang out. Her place in the wolfpack is assured when she shoots up the place. She uses her dominant position in the pack to solve the mystery. An interesting part of the novel is the romantic rivalry between Richard and Jean-Claude. Richard seems to be winning. (This does not amuse Jean-Claude.) Jean-Claude proposes a more even dating playing field or he will kill Richard. This set ups a very funny secondary story-line.
L.Hamilton has written another great Anita Blake read. A "Dawn of the Dead" on acid, but the acid has a bite. However, they are getting formulaic.
Why are all of the secondary characters with a bent, bent?
Rating: Summary: The absolute best vampire series I've ever read! Review: The whole 'Anita Blake Series' will keep you turning pages and anxiously awaiting the next in the series. Laurell K. Hamilton makes the unbelievable come to life. She just can't write them fast enough! I would recommend this whole series for anyone that enjoys a good scare and a great laugh
Rating: Summary: I read it in one night! Review: I was on a business trip to Dallas, Texas, staying at the
Westin Galleria. Conveniently, the Westin is attached to
the Galleria mall, and I wandered out one evening to find
something to read. There was a little bookstore that really
didn't have a lot of the kind of things that appeal to me, when I noticed "Lunatic Cafe" on the shelf. The title really caught my attention, so I picked it up. As I usually
do, I picked a couple spots in the book and read a paragraph.
It took me no time at all to buy it and take it up to my
room. "Lunatic Cafe" inspired me to go out and find all of
the other books in the Anita Blake series. It's also, in
my opinion, the best of the bunch. I read it through that
very evening, and strongly recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading Science Fiction / Horror.
Rating: Summary: Undisputedly the best book in the series. Review: This book has everything that the makes this particular series so attractive: supernatural, humor, blood, gore, and a lot of sexy people(?). If you have only time to read one of the books this is the one to choose. Anita Blake's boyfriends are extremely appealing, and her friends are extremely interesting. Her job, of course, doesn't leave her enough time to sleep, but well, everything cannot be perfect
Rating: Summary: The best book I've read in ages! Review: As a librarian I'm often given books and told "you've got to read this"! Well this time it paid off. Laurell K. Hamilton has a gift for making the strange and unusual absolutely acceptable. As unlikely as her characters may be you find yourself accepting them for who (and what) they are without question. The steamier scenes with the "Hairy one" and the "Fanged one" are appealing and they leave you wanting more.
The author's humour is an absolute bonus that adds just the right touch to her stories.
I, as well as many of the library's members are looking forward to picking up her earlier books and settling in for one great series!
Rating: Summary: I LOVE the Anita Blake books, this is really fun stuff!!! Review: I think Laurell Hamilton's books are GREAT!!! I have readall of Hamilton's books. I am avidly awaiting another AnitaBlake novel. Jean Claude is the sexiest thing in bookdom, and yes the WereWolf boyfriend is exciting too. But Jean Claude has my heart (who cares if he's dead!) I have read all of Hamilton's Blake books and have enjoyed each one. Her alternate universe of Supernatural beings existing, shall I say living in a regular world is a Trip! Did you know that vampires need jobs too? That Werewolves and Wererats could be schoolteachers? That raising the Dead for a living could be profitable? This is a must read for all Fantasy / Horror / otherworld fanciers. S. Die (yes, as in dead) - no pun intended!
Rating: Summary: Lon Chaney had it all wrong! Review: Anita Baker is back again, better but not necessarily bigger
than before! This time she takes on the "weres" in her neck

Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: I havnet read the series, my friends recommended "The Lunatic Cafe" to me so i started reading and i LOVED it! It's face paced, intriguing and a great read! This may be the best book I've read in a long time! I cant wait to read more by Laurell K. Hamilton in the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter Novels and her other works! :)
Rating: Summary: A werewolf or a vampire for a lover... Decisions, decisions! Review: Once again, Laurell K. Hamilton hits a home run with this exceptional novel. The Lunatic Cafe is the fourth Anita Blake installment and my favorite thus far. Though this one has a bit of a slow start action-wise, it has a far more compelling plot that centers on Anita's personal life. Anita is dating Richard, something that doesn't sit well with Jean-Claude, the vampire Master of the City. Jean-Claude wants Anita as well and he, too, wants to date her. She's always said she wouldn't date one of the monsters, yet she is involved with a werewolf. But Richard has great human qualities. He is a schoolteacher, a genuinely nice guy, a boy next door of sorts -- minus the small fact that he's the leader of a pack of shape shifters with a secret and animalistic penchant for a mixture of blood, sex and violence. Jean-Claude is the proverbial bad boy -- a fearful leader and a shameless seducer who doesn't bother to hide his monstrous side, but irresistible all the same. In order to keep Jean-Claude from killing Richard, Anita acquiesces to his proposal of dating both men at the same time. But the reader knows that Anita is attracted to Jean-Claude, no matter how much she denies it. If this interesting little love triangle isn't bad enough, she has to find out why eight shape shifters and lycanthropes are missing. There are various twists throughout the novel...This is the most exciting part of the series I've read thus far. Laurell K. Hamilton keeps you in suspense from beginning to end. Richard is a great character, but he's nowhere near as compelling and sensual as Jean-Claude. I am still hoping that he and Anita will get together. The building of tension is so slow it's torturous! But the aforementioned tension is delectable beyond compare. The characters are always excellent. The most interesting character in this series is Edward. He's a caricature of a character with an unreadable personality. Perhaps this is intentional, but I'm not sure. I hope to get to know this character in a deeper level in the future. Anyway, as said earlier, this is the best Anita Blake offering. I cannot recommend The Lunatic Cafe enough. A great summer read to enjoy resting on a hammock overlooking the sunset.
