Rating: Summary: Starting to slip Review: I've been reading LKH's work when she was placing short stories in the Sword and Sorceress anthologies. I like her writing style, her approach to storytelling, and her use of sub-plots.That said, I'm starting to lose faith in the Anita Blake series. The first novel caught me because it was a struggle for Anita to kill vampires, it was dangerous, life-threatening work. She was one woman--and not an Amazon. She could be made vulnerable, and often was. Things have started to go downhill, though. More and more 'hidden, potent powers' are springing up in Anita. I won't spoil the books for those who haven't read them, but it's beginning to put a strain on my sense of disbelief. I haven't considered any of the villans since the first two books to be actually threatening, and the number of supernatural allies is becoming absurd. I hope Ms. Hamilton stabilizes Wonder Woman, the Vampire Slayer pretty soon. It's a shame to see a once-good series slip so far.
Rating: Summary: Action AND romance...great! Review: While I enjoyed this book a little less than the others before it, it was still a very good read. I think the author's writing style has changed slightly and Anita Blake wasn't a "sharp" and witty as she normally is. However, I loved the inclusion of romance. It made Anita more "real." I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this "series" since I purchased it at the same time that I purchased this one, and I expect it to be just as good if not better.
Rating: Summary: Great! Review: The entire Anita Blake series was great, but it gave me a lot of grief. I tried to find Burnt Offerings in the library, and it wasn't there! I spent a lot of days anxiously wishing that someone would give me the book for free, because my parents don't give me allowance. In the end, I had to buy it- but still, they're great! But the bad thing is, after you read this book you can't read First Person type books anymore without comparing them to the Anita Blake series, and being disappointed. Oh well.
Rating: Summary: This book is .....WONDERFULLY written Review: I am not one to read. For years I avoided it. There are only a few books that can hold my attention to read "cover to cover". This book is one of them! I hope there is a sequel.
Rating: Summary: Pretty "Damned" Good if I do say so myself Review: Hey, loved it. It and the sequels. Pick it up, read it, buy more. I said read it. now. Stop reading this, and read the book. It's more interesting. Trust me. Don't you trust me? You should, you know.
Rating: Summary: Not up to par Review: Hardly a total disappointment by any means. But the ending was a bit weak. This book seems to be setting up bigger things for future books.
Rating: Summary: The worst I've read so far ... Review: I loved this series and it's a real disappointment to rate this one as sub-par. In a nutshell - too much schoolgirl romance / sex and not enough of what got me there in the first place - action and horror. What worries me is that reader reviews of the subsequent books suggest this imbalance gets even worse. I'll probably read the others but after I've given Anita a bit of a rest ...
Rating: Summary: A very eye catching book. Review: This is one of the best books about vamps and weres that you can read. She catches you with the way that she acts, and talks.
Rating: Summary: This book was awesome. Review: This is the first book that I have read by Laurell K. Hamilton, but it was great. Finally somebody has gotten past the whole deal of nobody believing in supernatural creatures despite overwhelming evidence. The struggles between Richard and Jean-Claude, and Richard and Marcus were very interesting. This book had everything: suspense, murder, mystery. Now I want to read the rest of the books, preferably starting with the first one.
Rating: Summary: Good but the ending sped past me Review: I am a new fan to the Anita Blake series. I have found myself totally intrigued with these stories. This one was pretty good but I got lost near the end. But I will continue to keep up with Anita and her ghoully friends!
