Summary: Another Great Supernatural Mystery
Review: Charlaine Harris is not one of the better known mystery writers; and frankly I have no idea why not. Her characters are well defined and interesting and her plots certainly hold your interest. After writing several books in a mystery series starring Lily Bard, set in a small southern town named Shakespeare,(highly recommended), Ms Harris has turned her significant talent to supernatural mysteries featuring Sookie Stackhouse. Sookie is a telepathic waitress who is dating a Vampire. Vampires have "come out of the coffin" and are being mainstreamed into American society. But, southern towns can be full of prejudice and Sookie and Bill the Vampire face all sorts of problems in the human community and in the Vampiric one as well. The Vampires want to use Sookie's telepathic abilities and the head of the local vampires is after more of Sookie than just her mind. Sookie and Bill are caught up in, and solve mysteries along the way. Those of you who enjoy the writing of authors like P.N. Elrod and Laurell Hamilton will love Harris' Southern Vampire Series.

Summary: Good characters.
Review: Th mystery aspect was fairly good. The most entertaining aspects of this novel are the unique characters. Recommend
this novel as well Christine Feeham and L.K. Lawrence. Also
recommend Silence of the Lambs by T. Harris and Damsel in the Rough by A.M. Tempesta.

Summary: You Have Got to Love Sookie!
Review: I normally expect my heroines to be tough, women who can coolly assess a situation then kick butt. What I got in Living Dead in Dallas by Charlaine Harris, is a heroine who is kind of kooky, reads minds, dates a vampire, and isn't afraid to yell for help when she's in a situation way over her head. While this sounds like a turn off from what I normally expect, believe me, it isn't. There is no way not to like cocktail waitress Sookie Stackhouse. She's got a figure to kill for, the uncanny ability to read minds, doesn't care about conventional society, and is pretty content with her life until she is reminded she is on loan out to help the vampires.

It seems that Sookie and her vampire boyfriend Bill have agreed for Sookie to help the vampires when they need help. The leader of the local nest of vampires, Eric is sending Sookie to Dallas to look for a missing vampire. For those of you who have read the first book in this series, take heart, the gorgeous Eric plays a larger role. Now take a backwater gal out of her little hometown and send her by plane to Dallas with her boyfriend traveling in a coffin and see what happens! Sookie ends up way over her head dealing with vampires, werewolves, and fanatics who want to end the existence of all supernatural beings. There is also a subplot with Sookie dealing with the death of one of her friends who just happened to be a member of a sex club. Use your imagination and you can pretty well guess what happens with this plot!

Charlaine Harris has taken Sookie to another level. While she is still the ditsy waitress we were first introduced to in Dead Until Dark, she has managed to develop into a likeable heroine, who while still unconventional, captivates our attention and makes us root for her throughout the book. Like everyone else, I can't wait until the next book to see what new mess Sookie manages to get into.

Summary: delightful mix of the supernatural, romance and mystery
Review: It was a lucky day for barmaid Sookie Stackhouse when vampire Bill Compton came into the place where she was working. A very powerful telepath, Sookie is regarded as a pariah by the townsfolk of Bon Temps. Since a vampire's mind is closed to her, Sookie feels comfortable and free to pursue a relationship with Bill without hearing things she need not know. Bill also wants to be involved with Sookie because she doesn't fear him and accepts him as is.
Bill has applied and been awarded the job of investigator of Area 5 but since there is very little trouble occurring at the moment, he is going to Area 6 in Texas. There is a vampire missing from the nest and they want Bill and Sookie to locate him. Their investigation leads Sookie to a radical church group that feels vampires are an abomination and should be destroyed along with their human sympathizers.

LIVING DEAD IN DALLAS is a delightful mix of the supernatural, romance and mystery genres that creates a new and unique work of fun reading. The eccentric characters are used to show that Sookie and Bill's relationship is normal by comparison. Charlaine Harris performs the impossible by making the reader feel a bit sad that vampires don't really exist.

Summary: The Second Chapter of Sookie, Bill and a cast of quirky folk
Review: I have eagerly awaited the second book in Ms. Harris' Southern Vampire Series. Dead Until Dark, the first book, was the best book I read last year. I adored it. It was everything Anita Blake SHOULD have been. GREAT characters that you just love. Sookie, the heroine, a telepath who dates a vampire named Bill. Bill, the post civil war vamp who seems to have lots of secrets still.

The characters that you loved in DUD (Dead Until Dark) like Sam, Sookie's boss who is a shapeshifter, Eric, the yummy stud major vamp from this club who lusts after Sookie, all make an appearance in this book too. (Though not as much Sam as you want, I'm sure ;)

The premise:

The book opens with a murder. But that storyline is quickly put on the backburner when Eric summons Sookie to help him out. It seems a vamp family in Dallas is missing one of theirs and they need Sookie's telepathic skills to interrogate possible witnesses.

Thus, Sookie and boyfriend Billy travel to Dallas, where they encounter more interesting characters, from telepaths, to more shapeshifters and of course, more vamps. But the most frightening people in this book are the humans, and that is simply a biological definition, not a distinction. I like how Ms. Harris shows us that even the most ordinary of us have a little demon inside.

After things are resolved in Dallas, Sookie returns to her town, where the murder plot begins to resolve itself. If you love romance, mystery, adventure and humor, then you will LOVE this book. I cannot wait until the next in this series. Living Dead in Dallas is a definite keeper!

Summary: Great new vampire series!!!
Review: This is one of the best vampire stories I have read in a long time. Sookie Stackhouse is one of the most entertaining heroines and Vampire Bill is great. The townsfolk call him V.B. which is hysterically funny. These stories have romance, mystery, vampires, werewolves, action, and humor. While I still prefer Anita Blake as the best heroine I have read Sookie Stackhouse does a pretty good job of holding her own against the vampires, fanatics, were-animals, and drunks at the bar. I am sad that I will have to wait for the next book as I have read both of this series multiple times already!!!

Summary: a fun read!
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed Living Dead in Dallas. Charlaine Harris really brought Sookie to life for me, she is very likeable character with spunk! Her pscyhic handicap, and how she handles herself inspite of it, is one of my favorite parts about the character.
Even if vampires aren't your thing - you'll enjoy this book. The mystery, for me, wasn't a big focal point of the book, however - the rest of the story is a pleasure to read.

Summary: Sooo EEE Sookie
Review: "Living Dead in Dallas" was great. Charecters from the last book "Dead Before Dark" were fleshed out in this book and we are learning more about Sookie and her Vampire lover Bill. Sam finds some friends and Eric -- the Vampire leader becomes more, well, approachable let's say. This is a charming book and was a lot of fun to read.

Summary: Sookie and Bill solve problems at home and in Dallas
Review: When a gay cook at Merlottes is killed and left in Andy Bellefleur's car, Sookie is determined to find out who did it. She is soon distracted however, by a summons from Bill's boss, the vampire owner of Fangtasia in Shreveport, Eric. Apparently, the local vampires in Dallas have need of Sookie's special talent to find a kidnapped member of their nest. Finding Farrell becomes more than Sookie bargained for.

Though not quite as good as the first novel of the series, this mystery was impossible to put down. The author developed all of the characters quite a bit more and added some new ones that I hope to see in future novels. I read this one from start to finish in a single long sitting. I am looking forward to the next one and hope to see it soon!

Summary: What fun!
Review: ..Sookie is still Sookie despite her relationship with Bill. When someone kills her friend and the cook at the bar Sookie barely has time to feel the pain before she is rushed off to Dallas to help the vamps find one of their own. From there things just go downhill. The witness is murdered, Sookie is kidnapped and her life and Bill's are threatened. With a little help from some shapeshifters they escape but only in time to come home and find out more about her neighbors than she ever wanted to know when she finally solves who murdered her friend.

What a fun second novel! So looking forward to the third in this series. If you like Anita Blake from Laurell Hamilton, you'll like Sookie Stackhouse and all she is too!
