Summary: KING RISES TO THE TOP
Review: This is the story of Roland the gunslinger, last in the line of his work on a epic journey to find his achilles heel, the dark tower.A tower he would do anything to reach, even though he's not sure what mysteries it will hold if and when he reaches it.Great, deep thought through characters make this a sure King classic, buy it.

Summary: Best book series ever written, and I've read a lot.
Review: This mighty and masterful series combines many of my favorite themes and genres. I was suprised that King wrote this. It has science fiction of the first order, it has drama and romance, it has magic and fantasy, it has wild west style adventure, it has the holy quest of the knights of the round table, it has horrors, it has exotic anthropological beliefs--in short, it has it ALL! It's like his other great books are planets and this is the sun. I read from all areas and subject matter, and it is hard for me to name any books I enjoyed more deeply. This guy is a master. With all its ideals and universal themes running through it, this series is destined to become an all-time classic. I hope these are read widely by those who are not interested in horror even. Intellectuals and thrill-seekers alike will like this one. I would recommend it to anyone who likes to read, period. Stephen King's best work. P. S. I was amazed that the first review from that guy in washington D.C. was so negative, it is as though he didn't read the books at all. If anything, I didn't get any of that from the books that I don't also see in Walt Disney films--for example 101 dalmations, Lion King, Bambi, and Little Mermaid all involve youngsters overcoming treachery. Only this series is like a story where Disney leaves off--like the Lion King grown up, and there is still plenty of overcoming to do! The story is a testament to the human spirit and eternal Hope. This is a very uplifting series of books. You simply can't go wrong with these books.

Summary: Horrible, agonizing, nightmarish... I couldn't stop reading!
Review: This series strikes me as one long, elaborate, multi-layered metaphor for surviving childhood trauma. Over and over we see the boy-become-man returning to a moment of horror in the past, sometimes literally reaching back, struggling to make things turn out differently. Roland's world as seen in the books is a degraded version not only of our "real" world but also of the sheltered and ordered world he remembers from his youth. Something has happened to make it turn nightmare: a clergyman in black robes pushes a boy in front of a car; the boy hides from a threatening adult in the desert way-station.... Roland watches the fear repeat itself in many forms. After confronting his memories, Roland complains that he's "going insane an inch at a time, trying to live with two versions of reality." This could be a clinical study of a post-traumatic stress patient. We all know of King's preoccupation with demonic cars and trains, and the incident in his childhood that precipitated it, but a King aficionado tells me that, in each of King's horror novels, there's also a scene in which someone takes revenge on an adult for something he or she suffered as a child. I've only verified it in one book, "The Tommyknockers." I haven't given the books the highest rating because they are over-long and a bit talky at times. This is especially painful because their subject matter is so distasteful--just like the memories that Roland must face or die. Also, I've actually spotted a few malapropisms that really distressed me, coming from a writer as prolific and popular as King.

Summary: Stephen King's best
Review: I am a fan of all types of literature, and never before have I found anything that I liked as much as the Dark Tower series. I now think that Stephen King is a literary genius, and I have already reserved a copy of the Dark Tower IV.

Summary: Enchanting & Unputdownable.
Review: I first read "The Gunslinger", the first book in the yet to be completed Stephen King series, The Dark Tower, when I wa 16 years old. Even now, it, and 2 current follow-ons The Drawing of Three and The Waste Lands, haven't lost their ability to enchant and surprise. I have waited six years for the fourth edition, Wizard and Glass, and it appears the wait is almost over. If ever a classic was in the making, it is this, about an imdominable man and his companions, on a quest to redeem not only his damned soul, but also right the wrongs of a "world that has moved on", a world like our own.... Read it, and lose yourself in the magic.

Summary: Excellent, a challege of imagination and maturity
Review: I have always been a fan of Kings. The only other series I have ever followed was the Travis Mcgee series. The dark tower series was, for the first 60 pages a test, then an addiction. Where is the next fix

Summary: A book you can't put down!
Review: I have read each of these (3) books time and time again. They never lose their hold on you, like alot of books that once you've read it, you throw them away. The tale of Roland will keep your hands glued to the book. If you haven't finished each one within a couple of days, well, there's something wrong with you. Most people might be put off by a book by "Stephen King", expecting his usual horror fare (which I think are THE BEST). But these books are very different. An adventure of a man trying to come to terms with himself and what he once was, a gunslinger. Follow his adventures as he meets the boy, his battle with the darkman, his pairing up with Eddie and Odetta and on to the Wastelands. A definite read that you will not regret

Summary: GREAT! SUSPENSEFUL! WHERE'S THE FOURTH?
Review: I LOVED it. I went through the three books in no time and now just waiting the fourth. These books are addictive and I want more. Hopefully soon...

Summary: Books to read, re-read, and then read again...
Review: My College roomate read the Dark Tower over a weekend, and urged me to read it. I dropped everything and read it in one day. Then the second book came out. I re-read the first, and then jumped through the second. Phenomenal. When the third came out, I couldn't stop myself, I read the first and second again, before savoring the third. This series grabs you, and doesn't let go. You MUST read it, and join Roland in his quest for the Dark Tower. The first 2 chapters of the next book were posted on the Internet a few months ago, and they left me drooling! If you enjoy mystery, fantasy, or even westerns, I highly recommend this series.
