Rating: Summary: I agree, it's the best Review: If you scroll down, you'll see nothing but praise for this book, and deserved.Instead of echoing what other's have said so well, i want to expand on the theme of the darktower appearing as a thread in other books, and put forth this: If King, in his remaining 40-50 years let's say, were to manage to work every book he's ever written, into one continuous thread, using the dark tower(with it's perfectly flexible vehicle-doors to another world) it would be without question the greatest achievement in writing in the history of humankind. Think of it, each story he's written takes place in a slightly altered reality off the the midworld(cause it's truly in the middle, youdig?) reality. worlds where cars kill, little girls start fires, clowns live in sewers, etc. this idea is so big, i'm having a hard time getting a handle on it. Roland's quest becomes not only to redeem and banish the evil from midworld, but every other world attached to midworld As king writes forward, he reveals how roland (working on behalf of the Turtle from IT, another multi-dimensional force for good, and his strongest saviourcharacter next to roland) was there, in body or spirit or through agents, working through the children in IT, or through the good forces in Desperation, or you get my point. In book 117, Year 2041 he wraps the whole goddammed thing up, creating an epic unlike ever written before, with each story standing alone, yet intertwined, with multiple worlds and multiple heroes. Hell, he could bring every hero and every villian from every story back, and have them do battle with each other on the final armageddon (cujo vs. pennywise, anyone? and yes i realize cujo was the villain, but hell, king can turn that around in two sentences. so, you are left with the most detailed, thematic, forces of good and evil series ever written. the final confrontation is like a streetfighter video, with characters slowly dying off until only two remain. readers are pulled into rooting for their favorite villain to survive in order to them battle again, a delicious paradox for the writer to handle the only question is with king-Who would he have win in the end? we can only imagine.
Rating: Summary: King's best with sudden twists of alternate realities - GOLD Review: King has always been known for his "on the edge of your seat" writing. His use of vivid imagery continues to twist tales of lost and imaginary worlds each with there own reality connected by the mysterious Dark Tower. Based on a gunslinger's painful quest, the reader can't help but be drawn into the worlds of Roland. This is an epic (spanning several decades in the development) that is sure to stand the test of time; even comparable to Tolkein's Lord of the Rings epic. Not for the faint at heart, yet somewhat removed from the normal King psychotic thrillers. A must read, especially for fantasy fanatics!!!
Rating: Summary: More truth than one man's imagination. Review: When I read these books I feel like it is something that has happend , will happen , is happening. It is uncomfortebly familure Tolbx.aol.com
Rating: Summary: Do not read it! You will be hooked! Review: I am mad because there isn't another one in the series. I've read them all! What do I read while waiting on the next in the series?
Rating: Summary: They were very well written and I couldn't put them down. Review: The Gunslinger was my most favorite of the three. I really like how Stephen King describes things in this book, so good that you can picture yourself in the scene with the characters. (Can't leave much of a review because I have to go, but the series were very well written and you should definately read them.)
Rating: Summary: An exelent book, the best hes written so far. Review: The descriptions like when he draws Jack Mort from our world and he hits a train and gets splattered into lots of little iddy biddy pieces, is exeptional. Very nice!!!
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT, MUST READ Review: The Gunslinger was an excellent book and I looke foward to reading the other books to come hope they as good if not better then the first one~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Stephen King's greatest achievement in one great package. Review: I own the paperback versions of these three books, and I have thumbed through the pages so much that the bindings are cracked and the covers are soon to fall off. The DARK TOWER series is Stephen King's epic masterpiece and belongs up there with Tolkien's RINGS and Herbert's DUNE series. I highly recommend this package if you are a Stephen King buff or a collector of fine literature.
Rating: Summary: you'll fall in this saga, you won't have a chance to get out Review: I'm really a big Stephen King fan, I was 16 and I've red almost every book he wrote. But this story is better then everything somebody can imagine. Although it is so complex and long it keeps the excitement up all the time, it never falls down. You have never felt so much with the characters before, you never wanted so bad to be part of this story before. The most wonderful fact is probably that this saga contains everything, really everything. Sometimes you think you are in a western, sometimes in a horror, one time even a love story. But the author never overdid himself with something everything is just in the right propotions. You learn also about values that are really important in our society like friendship, honor and neverending love. I am sure many people will find a passage they don't like very much but I guarentee that everybody will find sections in this book where you just can't stop reading. It makes you think about the world from a different point of view. Althought we sometimes think that we are so powerful we still can't explain many things. I thank S.King really much for writing this story, I am sure he spended some sleepless nights while writing this book. I also wish him the best for his future(also because I want to read more about Rolands adventures)
Rating: Summary: A fantastic endavor that will captivate YOU!! Review: This is the story about Roland of Gilead, the last gunslinger, and his quest for The Dark Tower. Upon this journey he does everything to reach his goal, but is it enough...-- This work has capivated me beyond anything I thought possible.. He(Stephen King) makes you feel at one with the story, and images of Rolands world will be yours through every word of each page that you look upon. He masters it all !! --I am in need.. he has left me hanging on the edge of a cliff that will be my downfall if Roland does not come forth(and soon) to finish his quest.
