Rating: Summary: Best King Book I have Read Review: I was really surprised by this book. I have read a few of Stephen King's books, and for the most part have not been very impressed. Lot was way beyond any of his books that I have read. This bbok completely pulled me into this world. I felt like I was living in this small town in the late seventies. The characters felt real, and were well developed. The whole town came alive, and that is what made the story so fun to read. I was skeptical about reading this book because I am not a huge vampire book fan. This doesn't matter with this book, it is just plain scary wether you like them or not. This book has shot to the top of my list of one of my favorite novels of all time. This was more than a mere hooror novel. This book is classic modern literature. Peyton's Place meets Dracula. I loved it. Now I am planning on reading The Shining. Apparently King's older works are far better than his latest novels which have not impressed me.
Rating: Summary: Sheer terror Review: This book was my introduction to Stephen King. I read it while home for the summer after my first year of college, and I was so enthralled I read it in one sitting - literally. I did not move from my parent's couch from 8PM until I turned the last page - and then I COULD NOT MOVE from the couch because I was literally paralyzed with terror! I finished the book about 3:30 in the morning and just laid there with my eyes locked to the front door (which I couldn't remember if I had locked or NOT <internal scream!>) until the sun began to come up, when I was finally able to fall asleep. If that ain't scary, I don't know what is! I loved this book and you will, too - just don't forget to lock the door before you start reading. . .
Rating: Summary: Second only to the original Dracula... Review: This is easily the second best vampire story ever written. The only one that was better was the original Dracula by Bram Stoker, but then again it is hard to beat the original. This was a very scary story. I made the mistake of reading this book when I was working alone at night with a rain storm going on outside...not a smart idea. The book takes a little bit to get going but when it does it never lets up. What is great about this book is what is so good about King's early work, no character is safe. I will pretty much guarantee you that you will be turning on a few extra lights at night while this book is still in the back of your mind. Great read for King fans and anyone who wants to have a little chill sent down their spine. Of course that's just my opnion, I could be wrong.
Rating: Summary: Vampire's In Small Town USA Review: Who is this stranger Straker, and why has he come to Salem's Lot and where is his partner Kurt Barlow? Ben Mears has also come to the Lot, and why is the Marsten House connected to these men? Don't read this book late at night and never look out the window in Salem's Lot.
Rating: Summary: Salem's Lot: Nothing Better Review: I, love this Book! Salem's Lot in my opinion is the best work Stephen King ever did. The people are normal just like anyone in the USA. Then things start to go wrong, The cause of this is Kurt Barlow from Germany and a Vampire! By stories end the whole town is falling apart, it's up to our heroes to get to the Marsten House and root out the evil! If you hear scratching at your window, don't look out!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: the best vampire story EVER Review: I've always been a sucker for stories about supernatural and unexplainable things, and i've always been a stephen king fan. When I first started reading this book, i had some misgivings because it was a little boring, but it gets right down to business. The basic premise is as follows. Ben is a writer who grew up in 'salems lot. He left the town after a traumatic childhood experience, but finds himself drawn back. Soon, it becomes clear that not all is right in the town when a child disappears in the woods right after another mysterious stranger arrives, but he is so charismatic that he couldn't have done anything, right? read it and find out for yourself. this is probably one of my favorite books. The characters are very realistic and King puts a new spin on vampire mythology. best when read home, alone, and in very dim light
Rating: Summary: Great Review: This book is great anyone who like vampire stories should read this book
Rating: Summary: SCARY Review: I love this book! It is, in my opinion, one of King's best. This book is truely scary. I don't recommend sitting by a window when you read it. If you are thinking of reading a King book make it this one.
Rating: Summary: A classic vampire novel Review: A small town in Maine is turned into a small town of vampires in Maine, and it is up to Ben Mears and a few others to stop the vampire infestation before it goes any further. Salem's Lot is one of my favorite early Stephen King novels. It has an eerie tone throughout the book and some genuinely creepy moments. I first read it when I was a kid and have never been able to forget the image of the child vampire floating outside the bedroom window. To me, this is one of those genre-defining novels that every fan of vampire novels should read at least onece.
Rating: Summary: I think I've grown out horror stories. Review: Unfortunately, the fact is that it is difficult to be scared by books. Horror is a genre that tends to better as films. This book failed to make me afraid and thus I found it boring. However It was a little interesting at times and, to be fair, it is supposd to be one of the scarier novels down the timeline. The story was very predictable all the way through. It was obvious what Barlow was. It was additionally flawed by Stepehen King trying to show off his writing skills. Some of his long and 'clever' descriptions were irritating rather than helpful in jogging your imagination, making the story even more bland and fearless. Those of you that are quite easily scared of horror novels will probably like this, a lot. Unfortunately I don't seem to get scared much anymore, which is a shame really. This book failed to changed that.
