Rating: Summary: six Review: Wonderful concept is given a sluggish text. The Bonnie character is too flat; maybe if he cut her out it would have read faster. It doesn't live up to its rep, but nevertheless, a good novel.
Rating: Summary: An excellent scare Review: Stephen King does it again. This book was very good and was very chilling. An excellent read. A Vampire book worth reading. He keeps you enthralled from each blow of the stake.
Rating: Summary: CLASSIC Review: kING'S BEST WORK OF PURE HORROR MAKES YOU FEEL THE PARANOIA AND FEAR OF ITS CHARACTERS. AS GRIPPING A READ AS YOU WILL EVER ENCOUNTER.
Rating: Summary: A very good book by Stephen King Review: ""Salem's Lot" is one of my favorite books because I love the genre it deals with and the fact that King is a great character developer. The book is written so that you really get to know the people involved in the story. The turns of the plot leave you feeling Helpless, hopeful, and SCARED! The setting of the story make you believe that this could happen anywhere!! I'm not a huge reader of King's novels, but I rate this one the best of the ones I've read.
Rating: Summary: AN ABSOLUTE CHILLER!!! Review: Though one of his early works, Stephen King displays his mastery of the dark art of story-telling as he takes the readers to Salem's Lot. Let the master drain your blood in the vampire novel that will challenge the horror of Stoker's Dracula!!! Submit your will to Barlow! Surrender yourself to Stephen King!!!
Rating: Summary: King's best novel Review: This book does two things better than any other King novel: it frightens the bejesus out of you and it leaves a lot unsaid. The character development is expertly handled, but much of the myth behind the vampires is left unexplained. (What was Barlow like in the Old World, how did he become a vampire, etc.) Read with "One for the Road" (in Night Shift) and "Jerusalem's Lot" (also in Night Shift) it makes for impeccably interesting and captivating reading.
Rating: Summary: Eh ... Review: Salem's Lot is a really cool book. The infection of the entire town is methodical and all too possible. Barlow's seduction of individuals is entrancing. And the town's seemingly willing turn to the night is spooky. But ... But I found it difficult to care for the heros for any other reason than they were fighting (evil). Yes, Mark had his parents to fight for and he was remarkable in that seeing his partents killed didn't completely short his brain out. But King's insistance on telling the reader how quick the boy's mind was again and again was a little insulting. Yes he's a smart kid, yes he's strong THANK YOU!
As much as I usually like King's work, and as much as i found myself wrapped up in the progression of the story ... I feel fairly non-commital about the whole thing. Eh ...
Rating: Summary: IT IS THE MOST TERRIFYING BOOK EVER! Review: WHEN VAMPIRES ENVADE 'SALEM'S LOT, IT'S UP TO WRITER BEN MEARS TO PUT TOGETHER THE PIECES AND TO DRIVE THE BLOOD-SUCKERS (EXCUSE THE EXPRESSION) OUT OF THEIR FEEDING GROUNDS. THE HOUSE ON THE HILL, THE MARSTEN HOUSE, IS WHERE THE VAMPIRE LIVES WHEN IT FIRST COMES TO THE LOT. THE COVER-UP IS AN ANTIQUE FURNITURE STORE. TO FIND OUT HOW IT ENDS, READ ALL 679 PAGES. I HOPE YOU ENJOY IT AS MUCH AS I DID, IT WAS THE MOST TERRIFYING BOOK I HAVE EVER READ IN MY FIFTEEN YEARS OF LIFE.
Rating: Summary: King redeemes himself, but too late! Review: When you first read what this book is about, you think:"Wow this sounds great!". For some, including myself, this book is not so great afterall. For the first 150-200 pages absolutely nothing is happening. Stephen King has went way too far into details this time. The only thing that is happening is a writer is coming into the town to write a book on some haunted house. That's all. I could hardly resist from just giving up on this one. I don't think a reader is very interested in reading 200 pages of arse until getting to the interesting part.
Rating: Summary: The BEST Stephen King book ever! Review: I've read many of King's books, and I would say this is the best one he's written. If a person has never read King before and would like to start, then 'Salem's Lot is the one!
