Summary: FANTASTIC, THE AGE OLD BATTLE OF GOOD AND EVIL AT ITS BEST
Review: BY FAR THE BEST KING NOVEL OF THEM ALL! ONCE AGAIN THE QUIET BACKWATER WORLD OF MAINE, IS THE CENTRE OF A FULL SCALE BATTLE BETWEEN THE FORCES OF GOOD AND EVIL. A TRULY MACABRE VAMPIRE NOVEL THAT WILL BRING A SMILE TO BRAM STOKERS FACE. READ IT AND ENJOY A GEAT STORYTELLER AT HIS VERY BEST.

Summary: Stephen King's greatest!
Review: 'Salem's Lot was the best Stephen King book I've read (I've read all but two, Firestarter and The Talisman). In fact, I might even say it is my favorite book ever. I love Stephen King, and began reading his books when I was eight years old. I've been reading so many of his books for six years now, but 'Salem's Lot was the only one that truly scared me. I was unable to even get to sleep with the book in the same room! A truly frightening story, in the finest tradition of King, up there with The Shining, Desperation, and It, which were almost, but not quite, as scary. A good read for someone wanting to be introduced to King, and a book to be read over and over by his fans.

Summary: 'SALEM'S LOT:Stephen King at his best.
Review: I have not read all of Stephen King's books, but "Salem's Lot" is by far the best book I have ever read. I am a big fan of vampire movies and novels. It has been a long time since I actually sat down and read a book, but "Salem's Lot" occupied all my time for nearly a week. On the contrary to previous reviews I did not think the book had a slow start at all. The book was perfect from beginning to end. As I have learned from reading other books by Stephen King, you won't get your classic happy ending. Now that this book has got me interested in reading again I soon plan to read "Carrie" and "The Stand". I recommend that you do not watch the movie "Salem's Lot" before reading the book. I read the book first, and I know that it would not have been as enjoyable had I viewed the movie first. In my opinion, the movie was a dissapointment when compared to the book. So when you read this excellent, bone-chilling novel be prepared to become very paranoid of the dark, and be glad that it is just a novel.

Summary: A good start, but not the ultimate weapon in King's arsenal
Review: As a young vampire-fiction fan, I was thrilled to find such a novel by Stephen King. As noted in the above reviews, it starts slow, but builds momentum as the story unfolds. I rate this a three because, although the story is enjoyable, it is not close to comparable to The Stand or It, which are my favorites. King has truly matured in his style, which is noticeably lacking in this novel. Definitely a good read, but don't hope for a perfect novel!!!

Summary: Overall letter grade=A
Review: I would rank this as one of King's best. I believe it was his second book and reflects a period of King's writing that is unique and had great integrity in terms of composition. Some of the imagery is extremely haunting, especially the dilapidated mansion on the hill that holds much terror for the story's main character. It's certainly the best vampire story ever. It takes Stoker's Dracula and cranks it up a few more grisly notches.

Summary: A GREAT BOOK!!
Review: This is the first stephen king book I have read. I have to agree with most of the people who have read this book, it did take a long time for it to actually get good. When it does get good it never stops geting better.Altough it really did not scare me I still thought it was a great book. The movie was terrible! and although the mini series was alot better, the book was a billion times better than the mini series. Some sections of the book were really boring and slow, but others were interesting and exiting. What I really liked about the book was that there were so many different characters. Stephen King did a good job on describing each one of them. The main problem I had with this book was the ending, stephen king really did not give a good explination on what happend to the vampires.I recommend this book to first time stephen king readers.

Summary: I thought he would never write another novel after this one
Review: My sister brought home this paperback. The cover was all black. No authors name.. no title. Just the embossed outline of a womans face with a little drop of red blood at the corner of her mouth. She always read fast. A book in one sitting. I kept asking her "what is it about?". "I don't yet" she kept saying. When she was done with it she handed it to me and said " don't look out the window". I assumed it was about witches because of the title which was printed on the back cover. By the time the 'word' was mentioned I believed. I read this book 20 years ago and I can still remember most of the characters names and even whole passages. I remember thinking at the time that Stephen King would never write another novel.. he covered it all in 'salems Lot. The thing under the bed.. the neighborhood haunted house... the clothing that turns into a snake after the light is turned off. How wrong I was. Mr. King has written many books after 'salems Lot, but none come close. This is his masterpiece.

Summary: A genuinely frightening book!!!!!!!
Review: I have read alot of horror/supernatural books over the years and while I've enjoyed a great many books within this genre few have ever truely scared me. Well I'm here to tell you this book scared me alot. There were times when the proverbial hairs on the back of my neck stood up. Although this was only the second novel he published Stephen King was on the top of his literary game. His depiction of small town people and their lives rings so true that the interjection, into that town, of pure evil seems even more of a terrifying nightmare. Anyone who likes to be scared should purchase this book -- pick a dark night when the wind is blowing hard outside your window -- don't start this book if you have other things to do because you won't be able to put it down. And, oh yeah, you might want to have a crucifix and some holy water close by -- just in case. "OH GOD, I THINK I HEAR SOMETHING SCRATCHING AT MY WINDOW"
