Rating: Summary: I'm usually not easily spooked but... Review: ...this book made me scared to look out my window at night for a few weeks. Without a doubt, the scariest Stephen King book I've read (and believe me, I've read a LOT of 'em)! Definitely not a book you'd want to read while at home by yourself at night.
Rating: Summary: Salem's Lot-A place you don't want to live in..... Review: I consider this his greatest book along with THE STAND. He spins a yarn of terror that will keep the reader gripped in his tale long into the night. His description of Jerusalem's Lot (Salem's Lot) makes you feel like one of the inhabitants and then you go up to the Marsten House, a place that nightmares begin from. King's description of Straker and Marlow are truely mesmorizing in a terrifying way. I consider Salem's Lot to be among one of the 10 greatest Horror Novels of all time. Wouldn't it be delightful if King made a sequel to this tale?
Rating: Summary: Possibly King's Best! Review: I am a big Stephen King fan; he has written so many terrific books, but 'salem's Lot, one of the first I read, is still one of his very best. His handling of the classic vampire tale is stunning and his characters are people you really care about (not always true of his later works). This lends an additional sense of horror; every time something happens to one of the characters, you can hear yourself say, "oh, no!" This of all King's books has haunted me over the years; every so often I take it down and re-read it, and it is just as scary and effective the twentieth time as it was the first.
Rating: Summary: 'Salem's Lot is a triumph of terror Review: SALEM'S LOT was the first book by SK that I ever read, and the tale of a small town slowly taken over by vampires is excellent entertainment. It's also very scary. The characters are real and engaging, and the subplot about the Marsten House adds even more mystery to the story. First two young boys disappear, and then more people begin to die. You won't be able to put it down. The ending is left open for a sequel, but according to the Stephen King official website, he had plans for a sequel, but now believes that too much time has passed. An excellent read, nonetheless.
Rating: Summary: AWESOME! Review: The best horror book I've ever read (and I've read it several times)
Rating: Summary: The best book, I have ever read! Review: A very good book everybody who like Stephen, should read it !
Rating: Summary: What A Book! Review: WOW! Now this was the first Stephen King novel I read because i'm a real vampire nut but after reading Salem's Lot i'm sure i'd love any of King's novels. I had a little trouble getting in to the book at the begining but then I just couldn't put it down ( even though I wanted to because it was so scary ). King has wonderful description and his characters are people whom most of us can relate to can relate with. As one person said it leaves you thinking 2 things: 1. They got theirs in the end and 2> Hey, this is left open as if there's going to be a sequel!
Rating: Summary: Refreshing Dash of "Reality" Review: I just reread this after letting it sit on my bookshelf for many years. I love King's new style but reading this reminded me why I got hooked on him in the first place. A combination of fear of the dark and the knowledge that (despite Hollywood's protestations to the contrary)good does not automatically vanquish evil in all cases and ANYTHING can happen to characters you care about in King's world. A great scary read that I would recommend to anyone who loves vampire stories.
Rating: Summary: Scary as hell Review: I was reading this book at about 11 o'clock at night, and as i went to turn off the light, i paused. I looked at my windows, one had been pushed up! I was really freaked out, until i remembered it was the broken one that continually pops up. This is the kind of mood 'salem's lot puts you in. It really freaked me out and ill bet it will freak a lot of other people out too. If you like being kept in suspense or scared, this is most definitely the book for you.
Rating: Summary: A Classic Vampire Tale from a Literary Legend! Review: Sure, we've all read vampire stories, seen the movies, heard the legends. But we don't really believe in those archaic old beasts do we? You bet your eternal soul we do! This novel was Stephen King's first really good book (if you haven't read my review of Carrie let me just say I wasn't too impressed with it) and I would like to believe that this was the work that really cemented Mr. King in the publication world. Affirmation that he wasn't a one hit wonder and such. If you have ever read Bram Stoker's Dracula you will undoubtedly notice similarites in the story line but in no way is this the same as Dracula. I was not alive when this book was written, I don't really emphasize with certain events; but the overall novel is timeless. That is the great argument for Stephen King's works being literature, he defies the critc's notion that current events become dated with the passage of time. There is this little concept of setting in stories! What really gets me with this piece is that the characters are people we've all met. Adulterous, Sly, Vindictive, Violent, Evil. We all know people like that. So when you finish the book you think two things: 1. They got theirs in the end. 2. Hey, this is left open as if the author intended a sequel! No question this book will try to get under your epidermis, hopefully it will succeed. Provided you haven't already been visited by a soul thieving vampire! Buy the book= knowledge that you own a copy of a classic.
