Summary: As a "recovered addict" I claim this is King's "best".
Review: As a teen I read many of King's novels. Most of them I enjoyed, others I merely read. I stopped reading his work after Misery and don't regret it. Nevertheless I think Salem's Lot was a "breed apart", the one novel of his which I would recommend enthusiastically to any avid reader, regardless of their genre preference. King demonstrates clearly that he is no mere hack - the book makes a silly sounding premise (vampires? this is the 20th century - oops 21st!) utterly frightening. If you have never read a King novel before give this one a shot. And leave the nightlight on.

Summary: A Lingering Darkness
Review: This is the best Stephen King book, and my personal favoritebook of all time. The Darkness has never lifted from this small townin Maine or from my heart since the first time I journeyed down the shadowy streets of 'Salem's Lot. The characters are facinating and the atmosphere is so intense that the entire world seems to drift away whenever you are immersed in this classic novel. This book will make your nightmares seem like a blessing compared to the terror evoked while reading 'Salem's Lot. Be warned: The darkness you are about to encounter is a lingering one.

Summary: Ah...very well King
Review: This is my favorite King novel besides _The Gunsligner_. It's not too serious, but serious enough to drive the point home. This is a great starting book and a must for any King readers of any age.

Summary: A Small Town + Newcomers + Vampires = A Great Story
Review: 'Salem's Lot is one of the best vampire stories I have ever read. The novel is written in a way such that the suspense slowly creeps up on you until the reader is in the middle of the action. This gripping story of a small isolated town called Jerusalem's Lot will draw you into a dark world where you are not sure whether or not it is safe to go out at night.

Stephen King is very good at setting the stage for the action later on in the novel. He introduces all of the characters, gives some insight into some of the main characters (Ben Mears, Straker, etc.), and describes the drab life of a small town with nothing to do. From here, King introduces little incidents that begin to pique the interest of the town's residents. Someone suddenly moves into the Marsten House (which is generally considered to be haunted), a boy disappears in the woods, and from there the action starts picking up at a dramatic rate.

When it is clear to the reader that vampires are up and about during the night, a small group of people (consisting of Ben Mears, Matt Burke, Dr. James Cody, Susan Norton, and Mark Petrie) decide to do something about it before it is too late. Their struggle is a captivating one, filled with many twists and turns that have helped define King as a horror writer. The suspense continues to build until it reaches a climax near the end of the story (to find out what happens, you are going to have to read it). Then, in a short epilogue, a somewhat unexpected yet interesting, almost justifiable action ends the novel, bring 'Salem's Lot to a nice ending.

If you have read any of Stephen King's novels before, you will not be disappointed with 'Salem's Lot. If you have not read any of his novels, you will still not be disappointed because this story is a good testament to King's ability as an author. I recommend 'Salem's Lot to anyone who is not afraid of a little bit of the supernatural and is willing to let the imagination run wild with the suspense...

Summary: 'Salem's Lot Really Bites
Review: 'Salem's Lot is the second novel by Stephen King. It takes place in a small town in Maine that is being taken over by vampires. It starts out kind of slow but when it picks up it really picks up. The main characters are Ben Mears and Mark Petrie. There are other characters of course but these two are really the main ones. Ben is writer who returns to the Lot to free himself of childhood evils. Mark is only a boy but he is as brave as man. You feel like you know the characters by the end of the book. King really knows how to probe into the human heart and express the fear and evil that lives there. It is one of his best novels. It keeps you turning the page to find out what happens. You can hardly put it down. It makes you wonder if something like that could really go on in a small town. The bottom line is if you like horror or Stephen King this is a book for you.

Summary: Great send up to Dracula
Review: This one is scary, scary scary! I read in Danse Macabre that this book was intended to be like Stoker's Dracula, it is a great homage to the classic Stoker tale. There are moments of utter horror and the small town thing is really intriguing. I love it.

Summary: Stephen King improves dramatically
Review: I was very impressed with 'Salem's Lot. First off, the book is spectacular compared to his earlier work, Carrie. This book chills the bone, and I lost many hours of sleep with some of the pictures this book produced in my head. This ranks in my favorites of Stephen King.

The peaceful city of Jerusalem's Lot (or 'Salem's Lot) gets invaded by a vampire and his lackey. Soon the vampire makes practically the whole town vampires, and a choice few people are left to clean up the mess.

Why is it I like 'Salem's Lot? For one thing, its very scary. I like getting scared sometimes, and this book has its chills! I'll never forget some scenes, with vampires tapping on windows wanting to come in and drink their victim's blood. Another plus is the bad guy(s). The vampire and his servant were both incredibly creepy. Also, this book had a good love story to it also, as crazy as it sounds.

Basically, I would recommend this book to anyone. King is a great author, and this book chills and keeps you wanting more and more. A word of note to all parents- this book is not for kids (is any King book?). Teens and adults should be able to enjoy this book, but beware, you will be subject to some VERY scary stuff. As for me, I am taking a break and I am gonna read some Tom Clancy. For now...

Summary: Great Book Overlooked
Review: First of all I have to say this is my favorite Stephen King book that I have read. At I also think it's very overlooked. The story is about a small town that becomes a ghost town because a vampire has come to the town and is taking control of the towns people one by one and using those people to take over other people. I don't want to ruin the story for anyone, by giving out to much detail, but basically the story is about a vampires. I absolutely loved this book. I'm a huge King fan and this book is just wonderful. He's written so many great stories like Carrie, the Shining, The Stand, and It that a lot of his work gets overlooked and that's the way I feel about this book. No one ever talks about this book or even really knows this book. I think I may of even had a hard time finding it in a local book store, whatever the reason is I don't understand. A lot of King's books have been turned into movies as has Salems Lot, now I don't know what the deal is, but I rented it and hated it, but what I watched was a single video, since then I have seen a double video version of the movie. The single tape version is terrible and is one of the worst movies I saw, probably because I knew so much about the characters and nothing was brought out in the movie, perhaps the double shows more, but if you've seen the movie I wouldn't base the book on that because the book is great the movie is horrible and does not do justice for the book. Salem's Lot is not terribly long, but not short either. It's a very underated book and should receive more credit than it has. If you haven't read and like Vampires or Stephen King run to the store and buy it, you won't be disapointed.

Summary: one of the best horror novels written
Review: 'SALEM'S LOT is by far one of the best horror books that i ever read! it's got a lot of good creepy parts and great character development. This is definitely one of Stephen King's best books. Not only is it really freaky, it's also very well-written. If you're looking for books that'll scare you, this is the one of them.

Summary: The book bites
Review: Salem's Lot is the (after Bram Stoker's Dracula) the second best Vampire book. Especially the end is excellent, because here it comes clear that the evil can win sometimes. My favourite character in this book is Mark, because he's just a little boy but he behaves like a brave man. I must criticize the beginning because the reader doesn't know the plot here, so my opinion is that King should have written a better introduction. This book isn't a book which you'll keep in your heart for all time (But "IT" will!) but for a flight or on a rainy day it will entertain you!
